967. Working on a YouTube project about BTS — would love insights from longtime ARMYs

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Hi everyone, I’m part of the research team behind the YouTube channel Babu Ramachandran. We’re currently working on a long-form episode about BTS — their history, impact, and journey — planned for release on July 9 to coincide with ARMY day. Our team usually handles a wide range of topics, but this is the first time we’re diving into something like BTS. While we’ve done about a week of background research, we truly believe that the real essence can only come from people who’ve followed BTS for years. We’d love to hear from ARMYs: • What moments in BTS history do you think are often overlooked but deeply meaningful? • What would you want non-fans or casual viewers to really understand about BTS and ARMY? • Are there any specific stories, performances, or quotes that changed how you saw them? We’re not looking to create clickbait or misrepresent anything — the goal is to do justice to their story with accuracy and respect. Any thoughts, stories, or even just directions to look deeper would be massively appreciated. submitted by /u/Patient_traveller [link] [comments]

969. (Unpopular take) i think hybe should combine bighit and belift into one

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Belift as a company is in a very weird position, they were co-founded by BigHit and the CEO of Belift is also the Chief Operating Officer of HYBE which is super confusing and not ideal. Not sure what was the thought process behind that They are stuck in a place where they have become BigHit 2.0 after HYBE fully acquired the company from cjenm in 2023 but are also their own company?! They don't have a unique brand AS a company or something that make them different from bighit. Not to mention almost all their groups dischography (enhypen and illit) are produced by bighit in-house producers like slow Rabbit, supreme boi and pdogg. So i think in my opinion it's the best to combine the 2 labels into one submitted by /u/Party-Confection417 [link] [comments]

970. The problem with rap in K-pop songs isn't the rap itself but the way the song almost always slows down in that part

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I always see people complaining about raps ruining K-Pop songs but (most of the time) I don't think it has anything to do with the group's rapper being bad, it's just the way the producers "slow down" (not sure if that's the correct term) the instrumental and it just kills the momentum. I swear so many upbeat songs do that, it's always so jarring submitted by /u/SoRunAwayNow [link] [comments]

974. The Eternal Elephant in the Room: S*xualization in Kpop

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I think about this very often. Probably since I was looking for the main k-pop sub, and, due to forgetting to unfilter NSFW content, ended up on a very different but similarly sized sub. A bit later, a similar thing happened w/ NMIXX, and this was at a time when they were majority minors. So obviously it's something that exists- we all know it. It has been a part of pop music for years, especially the coveted idea of legality and innocence. But in Kpop, where artists don't have any say over their image and most especially their expression of sexuality (from preforming homosexuality to attract yuri/yaoi fans to being forced into sexy concepts), it becomes less 'Miley Cyrus, etc. lashing out against being a child star' and starts to feel less 'consensensual' to observe in a sexualized manner. We all agree that minor idols need to be protected, but what about the rest of them? When looking at subs that treat idols no different than if they were anime girls, it can be seen both how much money is in this and how dangerous and dehumanizing it can be. It is another extension of the parasocial relationships that exist. Every move an idol makes is for the enjoyment (sexual or otherwise) of the observer. But companies don't and will not care. There is a reason waterbomb is so successful and attended by such a high caliber of idols. Companies think they can get away with endorsing the sexualization of their idols as long as they are above 18, but what really is the difference? People don't reach full decision making ability until ~25, and they don't magically gain it when they're 18. Even if they have more legal rights many worker protections don't apply to idols and they are frequently deeply indebted to their companies. Under coercion, they can't give consent in these matters. No matter how much it clearly bothers some idols and their members, they have to deliver or else sink deeper into debt and risk an early end to their dreams. So, sexualization. We all know it's happening, it makes a lot of us feel kind of icky, but it's not going anywhere unless the system itself gets fairer. submitted by /u/clairdeloona_yt [link] [comments]

976. Genuinely wondering what's antis' thought process lol

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm currently doing a timeline cleanse again, aka blocking unhinged haters/antis. Disclaimer, I listen to tons of kpop groups for the past 15 years. Weird haters in fandom whether it's in kpop or any other spaces isn't something new to me. I'm not gonna name any fandom(s), but it's interesting that this one specific fandom always shows up and make the most unnecessary noise. It's not even just about who I stan. They kinda everywhere making everyone and everything their businesses. Those unhinged comments doesn't bother me much, but Idk, everytime I come across their posts/comments, I always wonder what goes behind their brain lmaooo. Weird people. I just need to get this off of my head I guess. submitted by /u/Bidibooooo [link] [comments]

977. Where’s the Oomph? Do Music Shows Drain the Fun Out of Performing?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Gonna try to say this as respectfully as possible, this isn’t meant to be a drag on any groups or idols. I’ve just been binging a bunch of music show stages lately and was really enjoying the songs, choreo, and styling. But then I watched Katseye’s gnarly and something just clicked. Ik a lot of katseye fans try to push the whole "katseye is better" or "kpop idols wish" and I'm trying my best not to come off like that but this is just the instance where I noticed it if there are any groups that show this difference feel free to comment I like watching stages. Anyways I really noticed this difference when I watched Katseye's inkigayo gnarly vs meovv's hands up. While the hands up stage is good overall, facial expression wise and making cool faces (the girl in denim-on-denim ate btw), the group as a whole just felt… a bit low energy? Like that dance break around 3:05 had all the setup to be super impactful: backup dancers, beat drop, etc but the moves felt so minimal that it didn’t land as hard as it could’ve I was like do more, give more. Another example is aespa's spicy studio choom performance. Still a cool stage, but it felt like the moves weren’t really being finished or sold all the way. Idk how to describe it other than it feeling a bit lifeless sometimes, like they’re just going through the motions? To be clear, this isn’t me saying “Katseye is better than everyone else.” I know their fans can get wild with the “K-pop idols wish” stuff, and that’s not what I’m on. I still enjoy the other stages and I know idols deal with super packed schedules, live vocals, etc. But Katseye also sings live and somehow still brings this sharpness and energy that just makes the performance feel alive. Maybe it’s just a difference in style or maybe doing 2~3 weeks of strenuous repetitive music shows get boring after a while. IVE at lallapalooza, TXT, Enhypen at coachella those stages were incredible. So I don’t think it’s a genre thing. Anyway, if you know groups or stages that have that same kind of “oomph” or make you feel something, drop them. I love watching performances and want more of that spark. submitted by /u/kpop-girlgroup- [link] [comments]

I think it's just a lot more fun 😆 to the point where people don't know K-Pop or don't listen to it (aka regular folks) have always seen K-Pop stans as weird.
