2.080. Are there any male-dominated fandoms for K-pop boy groups (besides TWICE for female groups)?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm a male casual listener (and sometimes a stanner), but I've never really enjoyed female groups like TWICE, BLACKPINK, etc. I tried to get into them, but it just felt strange for me—no offense at all. I actually respect both male and female stans of girl groups a lot. The only girl group I somewhat liked was Baemon, but even then, I never fully stanned them. That said, I really enjoyed solo work like Agust D and RM, and also 3RACHA in general. As for groups, I liked KickFlip, Stray Kids, and BTS(Especially debut era),EPIC HIGH BLOCK B. I know some guys like SKZ or sometimes BTS, but I’ve rarely seen any actual male stans around me. Just asking out of curiosity—are there K-pop boy groups with a large number of male stans? submitted by /u/ResourceHistorical78 [link] [comments]

At this point what genre is BabyMonster going to do? Please just settle with one concept for a bit. Stop throwing spaghetti at the wall. What is this: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn8mQqz2xmM) It's just a waste of the girl's vocal and dance abilities. Is there a hole for them to fill or is the market so over saturated they are just being left to drown at this point. submitted by /u/PoyuPoyuTetris [link] [comments]

2.084. If Yuta, Winwin, or Renjun don’t renew, I won’t be surprised. SM hasn't given them a reason to.

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

With contract renewals coming up for some of NCT’s foreign members, I think it’s time to talk more seriously about how SM has handled their careers, especially the Chinese line. Winwin, for example, quietly transitioned into acting in China and has been absent from NCT activities for years now. There’s never been a proper statement about his status, no acknowledgment of his absence, and no clarity for fans who’ve followed him since debut. His situation feels like a quiet phase-out, and at this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if he didn’t renew. But if that’s the case, SM owes him (and the fans) something better than silence. Then there’s Yuta, who’s been focusing more on solo activities in Japan. He’s doing well on his own, but the distance from group schedules is obvious. SM has promoted his solo work with minimal connection to NCT, and it raises real questions about whether he plans to continue with the group long term. And if he doesn’t, can we really blame him? Renjun is a different case, he’s been present in NCT Dream from the start, incredibly consistent and reliable. But even after so many years, he’s rarely given solo opportunities, and the company seems hesitant to promote him as an individual beyond Dream. It’s frustrating to see someone that talented and hardworking constantly overlooked. SM always markets NCT as a “global” group, but the track record with its non-Korean members says something else entirely. These artists aren’t just branding tools, they’re the reason NCT had global appeal in the first place. If some of them do choose not to renew, it’s not just a personal decision, it’s a reflection of how poorly they’ve been supported. It’s not too much to ask for transparency, respect, and equal investment. And if SM isn’t willing to give that, then no one should be surprised if some of these members quietly walk away. submitted by /u/Seesawey [link] [comments]

2.086. "XYZ idol went viral and their company did nothing to promote them" talk is tiring

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

First of all what exactly is considered viral? Because in today’s society the concept of viralism is completely different from what a real popularity is. Trends comes and goes. One day x is popular, the next day y is popular. People get lots of engagement on TikTok but most of the time it’s just a one time thing. Next week nobody remembers and everybody is moving on to something new. It’s not that difficult to "go viral". What matters most is the impact and how strong of impression you made on the audience. Also there is this funny phenomenon called "rookie privilege". People pay attention to new idols because they are new. It’s much easier to "go viral" when everyone is paying attention to you. The public gets curious and intrigued by new faces, so they are more eager to check their music, follow their content. Ones they get to know them and see their potential they either stay or move on to newer groups. And maybe this sounds harsh but that’s how kpop industry works. So sometimes the fans get a false impression of how popular their favorite group is. And because rookie years are crucial to idols and their careers, sometimes it may feel like the company missed some opportunities to make an idol’s popularity grow bigger. I completely agree with that, companies should really maximize the "rookie privilege" and make an impact that will help to keep a group going for the next few years. And so there are tools used by kpop companies to help their idols grow in popularity BUT they can’t force the public to follow them. Sometimes things just happens spontaneously. There are idols who can easily make impact by just changing their hair style. So the idea that more promotion/content/gigs equal more popularity is not necessarily true. You can host a show, be an ambassador for a luxurious brand, have an acting gig and still be overshadowed by others. Sure it will help you gain more exposure but if the public won’t find you special in some way it will never work. Not everything is possible to control(which also can be a very beneficial aspect because maybe someday you will wake up and see your idol be the talk of the town, hopefully positively😌). My advice is to just enjoy the journey of your favorite group. Yes, it would be nice for everyone to get their Wonyoung "moment" but that would be boring. So just support your idols, listen to their music because at the end of the day that’s all you can do as a fan. submitted by /u/blurberrrrry [link] [comments]

2.090. Are things really that deep or kpopnoir is being wayy too serious?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I just recently joined both this sub and that kpopnoir too. The thing is that I have noticed that a lot of times in the name of being "aware" and "holding idols accountable ", all they are doing is just hating. Yes if an idol does something bad , as a fan it is your duty to call out that behaviour. I agree. Sometimes a lot of points they make are genuine, I get it.But most of the times a lot of things are not that deep. See I am not a black person but I understand their point too, but a lot of times they are just stretching it till infinity. Let's take Allday Project's Tarrzan for example, that sub really thinks that it is the end of the world just because he wears braids. Like isn't that just cultural appreciation? Correct me if I am wrong but whenever his topic comes up, the first thing they say is but but what about the braids? Like girl calm down. Ok this was just my rant. Correct me if I am wrong and also tell me what you all feel about that sub. submitted by /u/Shoddy_Hospital4742 [link] [comments]

2.091. So how do we want to deal with AI posts and replies in this sub?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Scattered thoughts, in no particular order. It's a reddit, social media, and worldwide problem. And I have no idea what reddit plans to do about it, if anything, if they can. There are some positive use cases for AI. Lowers English barrier to the sub, and it tends to make posts and comments nicer. Conversely, if you hate AI in general (job loss, theft of creative work, environment), people using it a little more or little less here isn't going to help with all that much. You probably can't ban it. You know how AI posts look like AI? Those are just the people and/or bots who don't really prompt it to not sound like AI. It's sort of easier to deal them that way. Also AI use is a spectrum from "review my post and give feedback" to "find itzy posts and argue about how popular they are" (a perennial topic). It's pretty clear the first category is a high-thought activity and the latter category is just bad. I personally am mostly OK with talking to people who are using AI, but I rarely want to talk to a bot on this sub. I'm cool with bots telling me which vacuum cleaner is better, but not convincing someone a song is good and having a bot agree with me. The AI posts do kinda get old to read. They're kind of fake-nice and have a lot of fluff, like a key point then just uninteresting supportive evidence. Sometimes I'm like eyeroll, just show me your prompt. I don't know how much bots we have or how to tell. I don't think I'm all that pro- or anti- AI. I begrudgingly accept it's here to stay and I think there's better and worse ways it can be adopted. And I wish our people and governments would take more seriously serious safety concerns. kpopthoughts seems to be a more pro-human-interaction sub than big meme pages or tech help and the like. I don't even know what a good outcome would be. Just gotta discuss it I guess. submitted by /u/abyssazaur [link] [comments]
