A recent post about the song which got fans into K-pop made me wonder, how many fans stan or at least still follow the group/artist that got them into K-pop? Ugly here doesn't really mean ugly, it's more along the lines of "not perfectly pretty according to Korean beauty standards." It seems kinda harsh to say but all the members looking perfectly pretty does more harm than good to the group for three key reasons. the group has a lot of members so they really needed to do something to stand out from each other if there was more variance in the attractiveness of the members there would be more stans for the prettiest member and many people "pity stanning" the less attractive members. the girls are very hard to discern. I don't know the difference between them or what makes them stand out. Vocally they all seem in the same range as well so we can't really tell them apart based on their music either. - except for that one time Yiren and Aisha weren't present for a random performance anyways And wow! I had an idea of how things were gonna go but they're such professionals that you wouldn't guess they'd just lost 2 members, especially a main vocal. This user has kindly recorded and uploaded all the performances. These include: Dun Dun, Adios, La Di Da, Bon Bon Chocolat, Pirate and even some bsides: Company & Make Me Feel. Praise time: The new formations + choreo looks flawless, as if they'd always been performing the songs this way and the members really stepped up vocally, especially Onda. I was half expecting her to just get Yirens lines as she already performed them during Yirens hiatus but nope, she's taken on the majority of Mias vocal parts instead, including some highnotes + adlibs which is quite the feat! Sihyeon too of course has stepped up majorly, being the groups vocal backbone now and sounds amazing as always! It's great they're not hiding away from performing any of their more vocally challenging songs either, they're obviously up for the task! I'd also like to point out how great it is to hear E:U's voice more! She's gone from barely appearing on most of their songs to being pretty prominent throughout them now, especially Adios & La Di Da. She has such a unique raspy voice and I hope this is a sign we'll get some decently long E:U raps going forward! And let's not forget Aishabella! She's slotted right in rapping and singing more than ever, really highlighting her deeper airy tone which is so damn pretty and let's not forget how quickly she steals all the attention on stage- It's also just really nice seeing all 4 of the members shining so equally, which as we all know was a big issue previously in the 6 person lineup. I still had a few doubts about whether this 4 person lineup would work but this has me completely sold! I'm so excited for their first comeback! I always knew of k-pop but never actively listened to any k-pop songs and didn't ever follow any groups. That is until I watched an old award ceremony video of EXO performing Forever, The Eve, and Ko Ko Bop years ago. I immediately became a fan of them and then started becoming a fan of more and more groups around late 2023. Since then, I've gotten to see many of my favorite groups have their comebacks which has been really exciting! Here's my list for both! Trainee has to be the biggest "what if" in Kpop. The second Bighit started teasing Cortis, I had a feeling this concept is exactly what they had planned for Trainee A, and I genuinely think it would've worked out really well. Jihoon, who is now in TWS fits their concept SO WELL, I always felt like the whole "refreshing" TWS concept fits him great too...but he could do so much more, especially considering his insane dancing skills. Leo & Sangwon too, Martin's vocals remind me of Leo's a lot, I feel like their lines are interchangeable. Although Jihoon left Bighit to join Pledis, I'm really glad James stayed there, Cortis is truly the perfect group for him. I get that people consider them “overrated” since they’re the most popular ones, and having them as favorites might seem cliché. I follow a few K-pop pages, and they post about every single group except BTS and BLACKPINK. Now that I’ve recently become a Carat and SEVENTEEN is getting more popular, those same pages have started treating them the same way too. And some 2nd gen fans keep on bringing bts just because they’re popular? Like the other day in a comment section, they were talking about how a nugu group from the 2nd gen is the golden group of kpop while throwing shades at bts saying something like “They didn’t bring anything to the table.”. It’s like they don’t want their groups to succeed, once they become famous they are out the window. I mean these groups are popular for a reason. When BTS wasn’t as popular they called it underrated and wished they would succeed and then not giving the energy back when they actually do. It’s also when they don’t bring BTS to the convo just because they are not their gatekeeped group.
