14. Vcha, Girlset and why it pains me to see "Commas" as their debut

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I will start by saying that I do know that Girlset isn't actually considered Kpop. However because the company behind them, JYPE, is a Kpop company I do think that they're not very far from the Kpop industry. With that said, I will now delve into the song and why, at least for me it was quite disappointing. Girlset isn't a new group, at least not in the conventional way, Girlset is the redebut of 4 of the 6 members of Vcha. It was created following the legal battle of the former member of Vcha, KG, and the departure of the youngest member Kaylee after the inhumane treatment they were receiving from JYP USA. That being said it is understandable why the "redebut of Vcha" would be controversial. I do, however, believe that because the legal battle has finalised and both KG and Kaylee have solved their problems with the company, it would be unfair not to support the remaining members, but I understand that everyone has the right to feel and think different. All this to explain why Girlset's debut wasn't something people were particularly waiting for. In fact, I would argue that Girlset didn't even have the same popularity Vcha had back in the day when their debut was announced. SO for "Commas" to be a hit it not only needed to be good, it needed to be great, the best song in their discography, maybe even one of the best JYP releases, to prove that all the battles, everything that happened, was worth it. Except it wasn't. One of the things most people criticised Vcha for was the "childish" and "cutesy" nature of their songs and concept. They called them immature and said they never should've debuted with a concept as such. But the thing's Vcha had a concept, Vcha had an identity unlike many of the groups at that moment, they weren't trying to copy anyone or anything, they were just Vcha. In fact, as someone who may be biased because I actually really loved their songs, I will say that their concept was unique, it was a breath of fresh air. Sure, it was a naive concept, but they always felt like a group of friends, a group of teens discovering themselves, their feelings, who they were. They didn't need to be cool or rock the girl crush concept, they were fine being the girls of the year, the only ones. JYPE has never been a company that gives great budgets for new groups, this can easily be seen in the fact that new groups get a lower budgets for their MVs than the groups that bring the company the most income. Good or bad that's how it is, however, it can be seen that even when they weren't giving Vcha a great budget they were trying, "Only One" their last song didn't have a MV, same case that "Commas", but there were multiple angles, a bigger set, better illumination, better outfits. Maybe JYPE wasn't giving them their biggest budget, but they also weren't giving them 10 dollars and a dream. "Commas" as a debut is disappointing, but it isn't disappointing because it's a bad song, at most the song is mid. It is disappointing because it follows their greatest song to the moment, "Only One" and it can't compare. It is disappointing because it is clear JYPE is giving them a lower budget. It is disappointing because they gave the members horrible, and I mean terrible outfits and basically the same hairstyle, minus Lexi. It is disappointing because the members couldn't showcase their talent. It is disappointing because the group no longer has a unique concept they are basically the same as all the other groups. They didn't need to keep the cute concept, but at least for me it's really painful to see how they've become one of the bunch. And finally, it disappointed and pained me because it feels like JYPE is giving up on them. submitted by /u/Ch_ch_chewing_gum [link] [comments]

16. I'M SORRY BUT CAN TWICE STILL BE CONSIDERED THE 2nd BIGGEST GG?...and BLACKPINK

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

No offense to twice stans. I really like Twice and I don't really listen to their music a lot but I have known them for a couple years now. The reason I personally don't consider twice to be the second biggest girl group anymore is because they lost a lot of popularity. Their music is still popular here and there but not as popular as they used to be. 4 and 5th generation girl groups have better charting songs than Twice and even Blackpink. We have groups like Babymonster and Aespa taking top spots in charts. Twice have older members and I'm not saying 28-29 is old I'm just saying it is a bit older than newer generations. I think Blackpink is still the number one girl group because them as a group have lost some popularity, but they are still topping charts and getting hundreds of millions of view on their songs. Not only that but each individual member has their own name outside of their group. Now though, It doesn't feel like Blackpink has that strong bond that they used to have. Of course they're still there for each other and always be but when you take an over a year break and comeback together, it doesn't feel the same. Twice members have this strong bond that they are able to showcase within each other and to the public. Blackpink is there but it isn't the same blackpink that it was when we first started listening to them. How I would rank them Blackpink (not too sure) Aespa Babymonter Twice Please don't be rude, it's okay to express your thoughts and opinions without being rude submitted by /u/Capable_Decision_663 [link] [comments]

I know some people probably find it unprofessional or eyeroll-worthy, but I find it so funny when a group is doing some embarassing/comedic thing and one of them is so clearly dying not to be involved. #failgirl/failboy charm submitted by /u/SomeRaceHorseName [link] [comments]

MeloW) 2010 – 3rd This table above shows the artists with most end of year top 10 entries on Melon since 2005. At the top, it's IU with 13 total annual top 10 entries. This really shows her dominance and insane longevity that transcends multiple eras. BIGBANG really dominated their era is still continuing to find success despite long hiatuses in between the 2010s and 2020s. Well earned 2nd place. BIGBANG's sister group in 2NE1 showed crazy charting in just a 3 year span. From 2009 to 2012, they put up 7 hits in the top 10 year-end entries to land themselves in the 3rd place. A very underrated group finds themselves in the 4th place. SISTAR released multiple hits from 2011 to 2013 to earn themselves a tied spot in the 4th place. IVE is the highest ranker among the 4th gen on this list. They are tied with SISTAR at 5 EOY top 10 entries. They were releasing hit after hit from 2022 to 2023. Among the 3 artists tied at the 6th place, one of them is BTS. The legendary BG made global hits with the English Trilogy all making the EOY top 10 rankings. Sharing the same place in the ranking as BTS is none other than NewGenes. They are the only group in the entire list to put up 4 songs to land in the EOY top 10 ranking in the same year. They released 4 big hits in 2023. One could argue that it became much easier for idol groups to rank high on Melon in the recent years, but it's still a very impressive feat regardless. Brown Eyed Girls, a 2nd gen GG, is tied at 9th place with 3 hits including the legendary "Abracadabra." Idle hit a sudden peak during the midpoint of their career with releasing hits like "TOMBOY", "QUEENCARD", and "Fate". They share the 9th place with several others. Legendary GG from JYP, Wonder Girls are also at 9th place with hits like "So Hot" and "Nobody". It’s hard not to wonder how their career might have unfolded if they had focused more on the domestic market instead of trying to break into the global stage. It's quite interesting to see which artists are showing up on this list. I, for sure, thought that TWICE would be on this last somewhere but I guess not (same for SNSD). It was also cool to see the Starship GGs from different eras sharing the same rank. What are your thoughts on this list? Who surprised you the most? Btw, I had to change their name to NewGenes because their name is banned from the subreddit. submitted by /u/Organic-Cranberry955 [link] [comments]

24. Genuinely disappointed with how MOA have been acting lately

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The latest "issue", Enhypen has released their self-made merch and is about to go on sale soon. Sunghoon designed a mini-Sunghoon doll for Engenes that wears some of his most iconic outfits to serve as keychains. Sounds good, right? Unexpectedly, MOA became angry at this and said it's copying Yeonjun's Ggum keychain. Given that they're both under HYBE, it's not exactly shocking they tapped the same manufactuter for production. This should still be a non-issue because it's not like TXT has exclusive rights to this supplier's keychain business. Both keychains aren't even alike aside from the manufacturer— and you know, at the end of the day, it's just keychains. At first, it seemed like just another silly online fanwar, but the overreaction is even going offline? 30k trending hashtags, hateful YouTube comments, and now there's plans of actual protests outside Enhypen's pop-up stores. We can't even say that it's just a minor number of fans because dozens of posts are reaching 10k-30k likes. Their outrage seems to be legit, and not just a small minority. It's as if people genuinely believe this. Honestly, I'm just genuinely disappointed that what should've been just a fanwar online blew up into something crazy. Idk if people genuinely believe Sunghoon wanted to "copy" Yeonjun but it's crazy how this non-issue might bleed into real life activities. submitted by /u/Desire-Untold [link] [comments]

26. Commas sucks and I have lost faith in JYP and Girlset

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I didn't mean for the title to come off as hateful as it did but I also agree with everything I said in it. I usually like to take the approach that you don't want to make any claims right away with new groups/ redubut groups but I truly believe this song had to be good. VCHA was managed so badly and given such a weak identity that it felt like there was no way the group could ever bounce back and recover. Now, I obviously don't like how this happened, but somehow, we got many eyes back on VCHA for their redubut as Girlset. It is a miracle (not a good one but) that they even got this attention and hype from so many people who didn't care about VCHA, they had to deliver. And JYP I think usually does deliver in situations like this. It started off strong with Girlset having some effort put into a new concept and identity. Then, they release this garbage? The lyrics are so unoriginal, so lazy, zero depth, they do nothing for the group except make it so you can't take them seriously. The song is so generic. They teased doing interesting stuff in the song just to not follow through with any of it. This is just demotivating and sad. I feel so bad for the girls. We kpop fans need to make our voices heard and fight for Girlset to get better stuff than whatever that was. submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

As much as it must be very hard to dance with this, kpop girls are commonly wearing high heels. Which girl group do you like the most with high heels. Here are mine fav : 5) Mamamoo : They are often doing dance practice with heels, and they surely perform extremely well 4) Twice : Twice also often wears high heels in the MV or on stage, they really look good with this. 3) GFriend: Again, they look incredibly beautiful with high heels, and they perform so good with heels. 2) Blackpink: of course the iconic girl's group, looks absolutely irresistible with high heels and dance like pro with heels. 1) That's my fav group with high heels -> AOA : They simply own high heels, they look extremely stunning with heels, they dance perfectly with heels, they walk perfectly with it, it's like these girls were born with high heels 👠 ❤️ What do you think ? 31. Do you guys remember kmusicandblackwomen? We'll, another version of that account has popped up.

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Kmusicandblackwomen was a YouTube channel dedicated to posting male Kpop idols interactions with black women in a way that felt blatantly fetishistic of Korean men. It also felt degrading towards black women, it made them look desperate. Unfortunately, I watched it when I first got into Kpop, without realizing how weird that account is. Thankfully I realized how problematic that account is and stopped following that account. Well, fast-forward to a few days ago, I came across this YouTube channel called fullybloom93 through my recommended. They have two video series titled "Black Women making hard for toxic shippers (and we thank you)", which has 9 parts, and "Asian and Latina Women making toxic shippers leave the chat (and we thank you), which has two parts. Both these video series focus male idols interactions with women and make them flirtatious to get back at toxic shippers who ship two male idols together. I'm not even joking about that last part, because they have lot of videos proving male idol x male idol ships wrong. It would be fine if they disliked idol x idol shipping in general, but they specifically seem to dislike male idol x male idol ships specifically. Sorry for the wall of text but I felt like people should know about this I didn't know where else to share. I know that r/kpopnoir exists but you need have a flair to post and the most has not given me a flair yet. Also, I don't think it needed to be said but please don't send death threats towards them, just criticize them normally. submitted by /u/Downtown-Book3105 [link] [comments]

32. I'm Kpop translator for LIVE platform (I am not an AI!! Stop doubting LOL)

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’m one of the surviving Korean-English translator for the W LIVE, and I just wanted to say thank you for your patience when you have to wait for translations. I started in 2018 when V LIVE was getting popular, and I wanted to give you some information about how we work, my thoughts on V LIVE and W LIVE, and maybe even answer questions if you have any. At V LIVE, we worked under a “Freelancer Contract,” and our shifts were 10–7, 1–10, and 3–12. Why? Our roles were to translate VODs and provide live translations. We worked five days a week and earned one vacation day each following month. (I wrote it but decided to delete this part before posting about the current W. Maybe I can be more honest here when I quit the job haha) I get to work at home, so that’s probably the best thing about this job! I’ve also been able to travel while working, as long as the internet connection was good. Singers still ask during “spot lives,” “Is this AI or is there a person translating it?” Scheduled, set-based content (like comeback LIVEs for HYBE-related and SM-related singers) is done by us. For example, we handled all the LIVE translations for BTS when members were discharged (this was possible because these were scheduled in advance). These days, some singers mention that they see subtitles during “spot lives"?? I think those are AI-generated. (V LIVE = we could monitor and watch the show while translating live / now = we only see the right screen with doing our live translations with transmission, so we can’t read comments or see viewer counts, etc.) At V LIVE, we had up to 10 translators at one point, and we covered many more groups and influencers than we do now. V LIVE also had “Fan Sub,” which allowed fans to translate their favorite groups’ videos. I sort of miss this content too, though it had many issues. Now, the substitute for fans is uploading it using YouTube videos. Why does it take so long to upload? They prioritize BTS videos first, then HYBE, then the rest. The Korean team has to separate the timebars and write the script of the video first. Unfortunately, this can take 2–3 weeks, and if there are higher-priority videos, the wait can be even longer. (I got frustrated when I saw LE SSERAFIM videos from May earlier this month 😅 I think we caught up a lot though!). [We currently translate VODs of &TEAM, BOYNEXTDOOR, ENHYPEN, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, LE SSERAFIM, YOASOBI, and Comeback LIVE shows by the company] Just for fun. Some of my current favorites to translate (and why): WONWOO and GAM3 BO1 – I love his shows; he’s such an easy person to translate. (And SAKURA started playing games too!) MINGYU – He’s just a likeable guy and really fun to translate. WOONHAK – I like his positivity, and he shows growth every single time. YUNJIN – Her shows can get philosophical, which is sometimes difficult, but she usually switches to English for that. I like listening to her stories and how she shares her thoughts (even about books). JAKE – His Aussie accent makes 영>한 tricky sometimes, but he clearly enjoys talking to fans. I also like his music collection. (There are definitely singers I’ve had a hard time translating 영>한, haha.) Things I miss or think about: I miss the LieV 눕방 concept. W LIVE doesn’t have concept-themed LIVEs. (The recent NCT WISH LIVE was funny but could’ve been better 😛.) I do wish we provide translations for more singers. I miss “having days off.” We “request” days off every month, but I often end up working anyway. There’s no set start or end time. Sometimes, out of nowhere, they’ll say “no work today.” This can last 1–2 weeks, especially at the end or beginning of the year due to award shows, hiatuses, etc. I “sometimes” miss reading fans’ comments while doing LIVE shows — it made me feel like part of the show. This is one of the reasons I feel that I felt more like an employee of "V" than now (we're totally just 100% freelancers) Yes, my job can get crazy repetitive, but I enjoy keeping up with K-POP. I’ve been a fan since 1994, so I know a wide range of K-POP history. Growing up in the States, I’m happy to think I’m part of the K-POP industry in this unique way. Fans, please ask more creative and new questions! I see so many TMI, do a baby butt bread pose, do you like A vs. B, pick 5 artists vs. a 5-year-old artist… LOL (just kidding—thank you for showing your 팬심 to your favorite singers💜). I tried to make this post entertaining. I'll do my best with translation. I hope that you continue showing support for K-POP!! Lemme know if you have questions too~ :) submitted by /u/nadanenglish [link] [comments]
