2.253. Rolling Stone article: EJAE finally getting the recognition she deserves for her contribution to the Kpop Demon Hunter Soundtrack

26 days ago exactly, very few people knew who EJAE was. I, like many, listeners heard Golden and immediately wondered « Who IS this? ». There was just one article on line from Koreaboo which did provide a bit of background, but then a well informed Redditor u/EdenKruAllTheWay had obviously followed her career very closely: https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/comments/1lvyteu/comment/n3fmk76/ Back then she had about 50 thousand followers on Instagram, she now has 110k. Her name has since been cited in Forbes and other big media, but this now takes the cake: Rolling Stone, first page, UP, UP, UP HOW TWO SONGWRITERS FROM K-POP AND MUSICAL THEATER BUILT THIS SUMMER’S SURPRISE CHART SMASH KPop Demon Hunters songwriters EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick talk to Rolling Stone about the collaboration that birthed their hit single "Golden" by CT JONES -AUGUST 4, 2025 https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/kpop-demon-hunters-golden-songwriters-streaming-soundtrack-1235397861/ Really wish I had a subscription to access it, but at least the link is here for those who can. submitted by /u/Ploumplume [link] [comments]

2.256. I feel like the only way that the K-Pop industry will accept a Blasian idol is if they're 3/4 Korean/East-Asian

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

To me, it just seems like K-Pop companies will only give a Blasian idol an opportunity if they are Korean-passing. A2K and Dream Academy were both K-pop adjacent shows trying to form a western/global group and neither of had a single Blasian contestant. To me that shows that the that executives from K-Pop companies are so averse to the idea of Blasian idols that they don't even think of them when trying to market/pander to the West. And I know some people might say that there are more Wasians than Blasians but JYPE and HYBE are two of the biggest companies in the industry, it's very unlikely that neither company could find someone who was interested to work with them. I also don't think either company HAD to put a Blasian in the final line-up, it's just sad they don't even get an opportunity. Yoon Mirae will probably continue to be the only mainstream Blasian idol for a long time... submitted by /u/Willing_Permit_263 [link] [comments]

2.258. Send off is not it. Fans are doing too much.

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’m not sure how most people feel, but send off, especially with really popular groups, looks kinda awful for idols and fans alike. Screaming through multiple rows of people who are also trying to get one tired person’s attention quickly (sometimes in a language they only somewhat understand) is really overwhelming. It’s basically an interaction frenzy and fan behavior is uncomfortable and draining. I’m aware that it’s a choice to buy it and it depends on your finances, but it feels very “here, damn” of these companies and tour promoters to charge fans so much for this and some other okay-ish perks when the highest tier of VIP isn’t actually guaranteed any interaction or a signature because of how send off can be structured. It’s natural for fans to want to curate their own positive experience with their favorite artists, but I truly do think the price and the chaos are adding extra unnecessary fuel to the desperation to be memorable. I’ve been watching clips of send off from the current Ateez tour and some of the interactions just feel a little odd, for lack of a better word. While I personally find it a little awkward when people try to recreate viral moments that have already been done to death at other stops or try too hard to set them up to say specific meme-able things, it’s harmless in comparison to people who are outright disrespectful to the members’ faces for their own "moment." Is it not weird that people have admitted to putting themselves in debt to be there only to yell something incredibly embarrassing and unfunny things for attention then get met with an understandable side-eye or ignored? Weird (and entitled) people will be weird anywhere, but I suspect that if this were hi-touch or a fansign where the experience is more equal and there are more restrictions on how to engage with the idols, there would be less anxiety around getting these interactions. I’m honestly disappointed that send off is becoming the norm, but I'm sure nobody will not stop buying it regardless of what it costs. submitted by /u/starbrightblossom [link] [comments]

  • 3 weeks ago schedule

You get a chance to win the lottery, but you have win a fight with the maknae of your ult group. You get to have guaranteed tickets for every K-pop concert ever (or the ones you wanna go to), but the leader of the first group you ever listened to makes you take over their position for one year. You get the opportunity to travel wherever you’d like with everything paid for, but wherever you go, you have to share living space with the CEO of your least favorite K-pop company (I don’t know anyone who actually has a favorite anyway, but just go with it 💀). This should be interesting. 👀 submitted by /u/CeCeAlexus [link] [comments]

2.269. Why are idols acting more and more childlike as the years go by?

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I was a 2nd/3rd gen fan and looking back I feel like those idols were acting a lot more like their age and older than they are today. I tried giving some new groups, both boys and girls, a chance and I was shocked at how babyish they were acting. High-pitched mindless giggling, robotic movements to ensure they never make a facial expression and stay attractive 24/7, relying on being cute during variety content because they don’t have the skills that past idols had for obvious reasons. It was like when they would be joking around with their members, there was a noticeable lack in personality that I don’t remember past groups having so visibly. It was very odd and I don’t think I have interest in most of the new groups I’ve seen so far. Is this just the content that new fans prefer over past stuff? I know the groups I stanned weren’t perfect btw and they had their own social/misogynistic issues. I think the genre has probably just transformed a lot and I’m just getting old. submitted by /u/traffeny [link] [comments]
