so im abt to rant. basically since 6th grade I've been a pretty big kpop fan. in middle school I literally barely listened to any other genre of music. the thing is, I'm from a pretty conservative close minded community so all of my friends would've thought I was insane if I told them I only listened to kpop. (it may seem dramatic, but its the truth) throughout middle school I was terrified that people would find out. When they did I would beg them not to tell anyone not to judge me. one time I told one of my close friends. She judged me so hard. she was kinda ish nice about it. She listened to a few songs I showed her but then over the next couple years she proceeded to mention it and make fun of me for it in front of a large groups of people even when she knew I was super embarrassed and didn't want anyone to know. there was a lot of other drama that happened with this specific friend and for a while I totally wasn't friends with her (or at least rlly didn't want to be) recently, I've become friends with her again and thankfully she realized what she did wrong and now is rlly nice abt it, but back to the main idea: so as I got into high school I would always tell my few friends who know that I liked kpop that I "wasn't rlly into it anymore" and I "barely listened to it nowadays" its sorta tru bc I'm a rlly big bts fan and ever since they started falling off and going to the military I haven't been into kpop as much, and also, sorry to say, recent kpop is just not nearly as good as it was a few years back. but I was doing that bc I was so insecure abt it and knewww they would judge me. now I have a newer group of friends and they all listen to the most BORING MUSIC EVER TO EXIST EVER RAHHHH like actually just basic freaking boring ahh music. now it may seem like I'm the type of person who judges ppl for their music taste, but I'm telling you Im rlly not, these friends are just SO SO into boring music that I cant even handle it. like music is a rlly big part of my life, and recently I've ventured into many different types of music and Im pretty well versed, and they are just so NOT well versed, and It just creates such disconnect within me that I cant relate to them in that aspect of life when its such a huge part of my own life. so especially with them, I KNOW they would judge me so heavily and be straight up weirded out that I like kpop (even though I mainly listen to other genres nowadays). and I can prove this because just today I sent told one of my friends to watch gnarly by katseye, now this may have been an extremely stupid move bc gnarly is suuuuper out there. Most people don't like it on first listen. Still, I warned her that's its really weird but that it lowkey hits so hard and the dance is crazy, I thought she might like it bc shes rlly into dancing but she texted me back that its not her vibe, which is totally ok to say and like ya I get why gnarly wouldn't be your vibe lol. but then she proceeds to say that she just "hates asian things". GIRL. am I overreacting or is that just racist??? and it just frustrates me so so much bc another one of the reason I recommended katseye to her is bc they're a global group that just seems like a normal girl group with some kpop influence, low-key I was hoping she wouldn't notice the kpop influence bc I knew that would immidediatlely turn her off of it but she did and now I'm just having a meltdown because for YEARS I've been hiding this huge part of me, like kpop is genuinely a big part of how I grew up and hiding that from my closest friends rlly takes it toll! i have some friends who don't judge me and even some random ppl who I'm friendly with that are actual kpop fans but idk I haven't gotten close with them and just IDK. basically I'm just so sick and tired of being surrounded by uncultured, judgy people. but at the same time I love them and they're my friends. SO LIKE WHAT EVEN JBFSFLRGHVSNHUVRHNHTUHKHYURTUDTNHTRVYUTVTRUHITVUHETYBIHUETYYNETRUHETIUVERHUNHETRVHN i know I'm being so dramatic and none of this makes sense but it 2 am and I just needed to rant abt this. if u read this whole thing u are literally amazing and PLEASE lmk your thoughts, I need some help :) submitted by /u/Careful-Minimum-3505 [link] [comments]

1.300. Your least favorite comeback from your ult group and why?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

It's rare to like absolutely EVERYTHING your ult group releases, so I wanted to see how true that is. To me, it has to be Golden Hour: Part 2 because I'm not a big fan of these overly "tough"(?) concepts and the music wasn't really up my alley either. The styling was also too basic for me. I'd love to see everyone's thoughts! submitted by /u/ts88kd [link] [comments]

1.303. So we're policing what people should and should not like now?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Do people not hear how whiny they sound complaining that a song they don't like is doing well, and all of a sudden, it's 'Oh My Gosh, Koreans lack taste', or 'Who even listens to this in the first place'. You don't see how that sounds? So people are expected to bend over their backs for you because you don't like a song or group? Not likung a group/song is totally fine, What's not fine is being shocked and appalled that people enjoy the music they want to enjoy. It's like people forget about Music is subjective when groups/songs they don't like do well, and they produce all form of excuses for why it's doing well. But if reverse was the case and their beloved group or song was doing well, they would be jumping and posting charts in every sub, and claiming the song is a banger so obviously the general public would like it. It would have been so much better if people complained about their favourite group or song not charting despite all the hardwork and the music being good, but that would make them feel like a whiny chart obsessed fan, and the response would largely be 'Charts are nlt all that matter', so they take the other route. So in summary; 1. You don't get to look down on an entire demographic because they enjoy a song you don't like. Charts have always about what people enjoy, and does not necessarily depict quality, if you thought otherwise that's on you. Being openly bitter because a group you don't like is doing well is an all new low for redditors. The creative minds behind each comeback and the idols themselves have worked hard on their output, and I'm glad it's being rewarded. While this behaviour on reddit is slightly shocking, I get it's reserved for a choice number of groups cough cough, I'm sure you know them. submitted by /u/somi154 [link] [comments]

1.307. Why HYBE's other Boygroups such as Seventeen, TXT, Enhypen hasn't charted in Billboard Hot 100?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I've always been curious.I am a moderate listener to Hybe groups. Hybe has been successful in charting their girlgroups in BBHOT100 so why not boygroups as well (except BTS)? HYBE is home to the biggest most successful boygroup and it is expected to atleast understand the chart formula and apply that to other boygroups but so far, have missed the chart. So HYBE has other boygroups like Seventeen, TXT, Enhypen, and newer groups like &Team, BoyNextDoor, TWS, and now Aoen. They, especially the older groups, have realeased really good songs and sometimes they fit well to Western palate but still couldn't chart a single song inside Billboard Hot 100. The Hybe Machinery is there and they have experience in BTS Billboard history, the song is good and fans are supportive so what could be that one thing missing or something they could have done more to chart? In order to chart a boygroup inside Billboard Hot100, fans give the most importance to Sales which still weighs heavier than streams.. and then streaming which is heavily filtered, while radioplay is just hopeless. Hundreds song sales (digital+physical) is equivalent to a million filtered streams. Girlgroups have different ballgame as they chart with very high streams and decent sales. But boygroups have just fair streams but very high sales. BTS has high streams but their sales have been their strongest point. Since 2022, Billboard has made significant changes in its criteria esp Sales specifically Digital Sales which has stricter requirements in order to include the sale in the chart like 1 sale per 1 account per week. What HYBE is doing now with their groups releases is also the same way as they were doing with BTS before 2022 which wont work significantly now that rules have changed esp song sales. The company needs to be aware about initricacies of song Sales criteria and how they could maximize every sale. Fans can only do so much. Example, if the company only releases 3 versions of a song digitally then the fans have to just suck up with it and do what they can with its 3 versions. Take for example KQ's 7yr old artist Ateez who entered the Billboard Chart at #69. What KQ did, I believe, was they released/sell all separate member versions of the Title Track Song and separately the song versions. one song version per member physical CD. Again this is only the Title Track Song + separate versions Physical CDs which way separate from the multiple Album versions as well. And this drove the song sales esp physical song sales. Fans were able to have more options to support the song release. Thus, they charted high in the main chart even if they dont chart high on streaming platforms. KQ played it Smart because physical sales weigh more than streams. Releasing multiple versions is not illegal. People just need to study and understand deeply the rules of the game. If companies can do what KQ did, no doubt theyll be able to chart their groups as well provided that the song is also good and fans are there to support of course. Unless Billboard changes their rules again. I am posting this because I know artists themselves also want to chart in Billboard Hot 100. They work hard on their music, some create and write their music, practise hard everyday, and practically give their all to their fans. But sometimes, the artists and fans can just do so much for what they have. The company needs to also move, understand the rules and think more ways outsde of the box in supporting their artists goals. submitted by /u/-xxx-000-xxx- [link] [comments]

1.311. The immaturity of some Kpop stans is astounding

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I should start by saying that yesterday there was an SKZ concert in Washington wherein multiple people fell ill due to the extreme heat. Concert was outdoor nonetheless. Some kid posted a reel from the concert of Bangchan cussing because he was distressed at the sight of fans feeling unwell. This OP thought it was so "hot" that he cussed and other people in the comments agreed with them too. This OP even said and I kid you not, "it's so hot... he totally needs to undress". On a video of a concert wherein a whole mass medical emergency was actively taking place. I can't describe how angry I am at this ignorant OP's apathy towards the suffering of so many attendees. No fans in any other part of the world would be dropping their bloomers over a single swear word, first of all. They're acting as if Chan passed a bill to end world hunger. And second, these immature Kpop stans need to learn how to read the room. Checking out their idol and commenting on their looks while they are in distress over their sick fans is degenerate behaviour. I'm all for admiring an idol's visuals but there's a time and place for that. submitted by /u/yeojawiththecurls [link] [comments]

With the whole discourse surrounding BlackPink and YG, I will always reminds Blinks and everyone else that Lisa said what she said. I'm her Billboard interview she stated that yes, BlackPink did have plans to comeback together but had not talked about how or when. She also said when asked about the tour, that she didn't know anything about that and Blinks will have to wait for YG to confirm it. This should let y'all know the status or that your and the comeback that none of BlackPink planned nor is prepared for. Also will like to say that yall wanted them to renew after complain for years about YG's incompetence all just to want them to stay with that company and for what??? it's 12 am can't sleep my brain is everywhere I was thinking of Yibo rock climbing(doing everything), Uniq and Mama Zhou so... Also I don't trust that Instagram page. I sometimes just sit and think about the choreo for eoeo specifically them on After School and I think Eric or one of the boys covered Jimin(Jamie)'s eyes 97 also because my brain goes everywhere I think about Woodz It's Ok which was a song for Idol Producer... that freakin song is sooo good and I think of Yibo dancing to ddu du ddu du which makes me think Jackson dancing to ddu du ddu du and screaming Lisa LIsa LIsa which intertwine with me thinking about the Untamed(I'm not starting with Xiao Zhan cause this gonna end being about Yang Yang I just know it and then NCT cause I'm gonna have to mention that I'm talking about the actor not the German guy) um yes the untamed it's boring, okay maybe it was my Netflix and memories but it was so gloomy looking, it's overrated and only(well mainly) it's so popular/loved cause of shipping culture. I think this is where I want to stop which is a good thing cause I'm sure I would've somehow started talking about how Jessi's butt scares me anyways this will be deleted in 24hrs submitted by /u/Mean-Rooster5814 [link] [comments]

1.315. What happened to popular ballads from idol groups?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I was having a convo with someone about Kpop generations and noticed within 4th and 5th Gen you rarely see some smash hit ballads. For 2nd and 3rd Gen while there were trendy songs I feel like you also had a lot of memorable ballads so 2NE1’s Lonely, Missing You, Taeyang’s Eyes Nose Lips, Beast’s Rainy Days, etc. I just feel like in the past idol groups could have a hit power ballad that would chart just as well as the fun pop songs. Has anyone else noticed this and why do you think it’s happened that there are less popular ballads from idols? Also feel free to share any good ballads from 4th and 5th Gen groups maybe I’m just looking in the wrong places and not aware of some good ones out there. submitted by /u/Such_Resort3832 [link] [comments]

I think it’s awesome that everybody or most are being really supportive when it comes to Alyssa, I was actually following her for over a year so I was shocked & excited because she's so talented & pretty & stuff! But I just feel like a lot of people are overcompensating when it comes to this fixation like I don’t know... I feel like instead of just admitting that they’re jealous a little or whatever people are overcompensating like OH THANKS ALYSSA FANCOM CLEANSE!! Like calm down she’s doing her job lol, she wasn't trying to cleanse the fandom. And just all the edits. Or a lot of the army calling baby army embarrassing for just being like "šŸ’”šŸ˜". I don’t know. I’m not a J-Hope bias although I LOVE him and just saw him in concert so I’m not jealous or anything. It’s just a thought cause the complete 180 seems a little sus I don’t know lol. I mean they’re getting more attention than the actual song or GloRilla. That's why I'm wondering if some of it is trying to come off like "Look, I'm a REAL fan! Not these jealous ones!" submitted by /u/Invisible_Rain11 [link] [comments]
