If so, how was it? Did anyone flag you down? It's so easy to spot an ONCE during non Twice/Kpop concerts cuz they wear Twice merch or have a Candy bong. I'm thinking of just bringing my Candy bong to concerts I go to bc it's the only one I have, and I don't want to buy more for each concert. It's also less awkward when I'm holding a lightstick during a concert! Going to Jade's concert btw. submitted by /u/NelaOfRivia [link] [comments]

13.987. I'm so disappointed in YG - a rant on how they're already failing their new girl group with their thoughtless promotion strategy.

  • reddit.com language

So I just watched the "next monster" debut clip and it brought out a huge rant for me about how YG is already failing this group. I'm so disappointed in YG right now on multiple levels. Obligatory disclosure: I've been a fan of all YGGGs since 2NE1. I love BLACKPINK and BABYMONSTER. This is a critique of any of them, or of any members of the YGNGG. This is solely about YG's failings as a CEO and as a company. Despite what others may think, when BABYMONSTER's rollout was happening, it felt very fresh to me. The cover videos with minimal staging, lighting, and outfits helped to spotlight the members' raw talents without them having any specific concept or image yet, especially with how the cover genres being all over the place (R&B, pop, rap, a country song). Then came the intro videos with each of the members' personal stories, most of which were quite vulnerable. In comparison to BP's untouchable it girls, high-production, swagger image, it felt strikingly different in a good way. It got me really excited for BABYMONSTER to have a different style and concept from their seniors. The other thing is, they changed up each cover to make it uniquely their own. The slowed-down tempo of Rami's Let Me Love You, the acoustic instrumentation for Traitor, Asa applying her range to Me Myself and I, etc. all helped those covers to shine. There was work put into those covers to make them high-quality, which helped draw attention to this new group. I still go back and listen to those covers today, I prefer some of them to the original versions because of what they brought to that song. Now that BABYMONSTER has been around for a while, we can clearly see the similarities and differences between them and their senior groups, 2NE1, BLACKPINK, BIGBANG, TREASURE, etc. I personally see them as having a brighter, more upbeat sound and vibe to YG's other two GGs, and feel that they've successfully differentiated themselves. I think their unique rollout and the focus on raw vocal talent was a big part of that. We know BABYMONSTER's debut was in the works for years. YG copyrighted BABYMONSTER and BAEMON back in like 2018 IIRC, and there were trainee rumors floating around for 3-4 years before they finally debuted. Now, less than two years in, we get this - a stale repeat of the BABYMONSTER model, even up to the point of re-using the word monster. It's so incredibly lazy and does nothing to differentiate this new group, or reinforce the uniqueness of BABYMONSTER. It's the exact same style of video. I also don't feel like this is a good showcase of this girls' talent. She's not making this cover uniquely hers, it's like karaoke. Her rap flow and English pronounciation isn't good, despite the video mentioning she's Australian. it hurts to watch this because I have no doubt she's talented and has better performances under her belt to showcase that. What an awful first impression to give an audience, both of this girl and of the whole group. It feels like what happened is the board of investors told YG "all of your competitors have 3-4 active GGs at this point, what are you doing? get a new GG out ASAP" and YG snapped to attention and rushed a thoughtless rollout, assuming their brand would automatically make it a success. The girls of this new YG girl group, who I'm sure have given up so much, worked so hard, and put up with so much harshness to pursue this, deserve so, so much better. If YG is going to spend time and $$ investing in them, they need to set them up to success by differentiating them from their seniors and all the competition. Not do... whatever messiness this is. EDIT: I'm not responding to comments that clearly didn't read my post and are inserting assumptions on what they think it's about. If you didn't want to read, don't comment. submitted by /u/freakyfishiesunite [link] [comments]

13.988. I really hate the fact that kpop gets unnecessary hate

  • 4 months ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’ve seen some people explain why they hate kpop so much and it’s always the same crap “i cant understand the lyrics” Like, ofc you cant! ITS IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE “they all look like girls/ they all look the same” NO THEY FRICKING DONT. if you actaully cared to look at their faces and see the differences, you wouldn’t think that. Stop being racist. Also, there are idols that aren’t asian, so you’re just being rude to them “the music sucks!” Okay, and? It just doesn’t suit your taste, saying it sucks is exaggerating “the guys wear make up, it looks gay/ they act gay”. Do i even need to explain this? EVERY CELEBRITY WEARS MAKE UP. And also, they do not “act gay”, they are just showing their affection toward each other, and stop being homophobic “they have no talent” THEY DO. why do you think kpop got so popular? They can rap, sing, and dance perfectly fine. In fact, they are amazing at it. They can dance perfectly synchronized too “the fans are unhinged” not all of them are tho? Stop judging the entirety of the fanbase based on a small part of the fandom. Everyone is different. People should rly stop hating on kpop for no apparent reason submitted by /u/Beautiful-Vast7545 [link] [comments]

  • reddit.com language

Hello everyone! We are excited to take a trip back in time to revisit some K-Pop classics once again, continuing with this rate, the "Early Gen 3" Girl Groups Rate! (If you haven't already, make sure to join r/kpoprates to ensure that you stay updated on future rate-related posts!) Quick Links: Ballot submission: Link to Reddit Chat to message a ballot // Ballot template (Google Docs ver.) // Ballot template (Pastebin) Playlists: Spotify // Youtube (Audio ver.) // Youtube (Lyrics ver.) // Youtube (MV ver.) Deadline: July 7th (Monday), 11:59 Pacific (Link to a timezone converter) How the songs were selected: We used the /r/kpop Top Ten Tuesdays results to grab the most adored songs from each of the artists on Reddit, and we also had a songlist feedback survey on /r/kpoprates to help decide the songlist! Now, without further ado, let's introduce the 55 songs (& 7 bonus songs) that were selected for this rate, ordered chronologically for each artist (artists were also ordered by debut date): . Spica: Russian Roulette You Don’t Love Me EXID: Every Night Up & Down Ah Yeah Hot Pink Night Rather Than Day DDD I Love You HelloVenus: Wiggle Wiggle I’m ill Mysterious Crayon Pop: Bar Bar Bar AOA: Miniskirt Short Hair Like a Cat Heart Attack Good Luck 10 Seconds Excuse Me FIESTAR: One More You’re Pitiful Ladies’ Code: Pretty Pretty Galaxy The Rain BESTie: Love Options Excuse me Mamamoo: Piano Man You’re the Best Décalcomanie Starry Night Egotistic Wind Flower Gogobebe HIP Laboum: Journey to Atlantis Hwi Hwi Lovelyz: Ah-Choo Destiny WoW! Bonus Rate: The bonus rate is basically an extension of the main rate! There were several songs that received high praise during the songlist feedback survey that still were barely not able to make the main rate, so we have put them into the bonus rate here to give them a chance to be rated. . EXID - Lady HelloVenus - Venus Crayon Pop - FM Fiestar - Mirror Ladies’ Code - Bad Girl Laboum - Between Us GFriend - Labyrinth . The Bonus Rate is optional and you do not have to submit a score for every song in the bonus list if you do it: you can score none of them, all of them, or any number in between. You cannot give a 0 or 11 to any song in the bonus, as they are not part of the main rate. While it is optional, we hope you consider participating. Spotify playlist YouTube playlist (MV version) YouTube playlist (Audio version) YouTube playlist (Lyrics version) Rules: You must listen to and assign a score to EVERY song listed. If your ballot is missing any scores it will not be eligible and you'll be sent a message asking you to fill in the missing scores. Each song should be assigned a score between 1 to 10. Decimals up to one point are allowed but any further is a no-no – 6.9 is fine, but 6.99 is not. You can use ONE 0 and ONE 11 for the entirety of the rate, for your least favorite and most favorite song respectively - they are optional but HIGHLY encouraged if you feel some type of way about any given song! Comments are also encouraged but not required for such scores (except if you give a song a 0). Comments are encouraged and much appreciated (but not required, except for if you give a 0) and can be added to any song by simply typing after the numerical score, like so: Hip: 2.4 Ofc the title track that utilizes Mamamoo's vocal power the least ends up becoming the most popular (yells angrily at cloud) This is the ONLY correct way to format a comment. Please do not include colons (ex. 9: I stan!), dashes (ex. 3.3 - This song sucks), or any other symbol after your score/before your comment as it breaks the program. You can also give comments for individual artists! Just write your comment after the :, such as the following: EXID: Are they pronounced like "exit" or are you supposed to say every letter separately? I'll never know For this rate and most future rates, we have a ballot average minimum of 4.00. In addition, if your ballot average is between 4.00-5.50, you must leave comments on your lower scores (which we define as any score that's a 3 or lower). {Do not worry about having to calculate your ballot average, once you submit your ballot, we will tell you if you need to make changes to your ballot for it to be accepted.} SUBMITTING A BALLOT: * Link to Reddit Chat to message a ballot As Reddit is (unfortunately) moving away from the private messaging system in favor of utilizing the Reddit chat system, we are forced to also adopt the Reddit chat system for messaging. You can make a copy of either the Google Docs or Pastebin ballot templates below, add your scores on your local copy/file, and send the link to your local copy/file in your Reddit Chat message to u/KpopRates_Ghost. * Google Docs ballot template * Pastebin ballot template Google spreadsheet template that you can use to calculate averages, record scores, and make predictions Alternatively, if you have Discord, you can message the link to your ballot to both the rate hosts, @Zypker124 and @aidshha. Articles / Timeline 250422 This day marks one year since HYBE launched their audit of Min Hee Jin and ADOR's management. Happy(?) 1st anniversary of the Megathreads! 250502 The 3rd hearing for Min Hee Jin vs. Belift Lab was set to take place but postponed to July 18th at Belift Lab's request. Each side is due to present their arguments/documents regarding plagiarism issues at the next meeting. (Source: Maeil Kyungjae) 250530 We learned that ADOR had filed for 'indirect enforcement' after their injunction was granted and NewJeans performed at ComplexCon back in March (Filed on April 4th according to the statement from NewJeans' representatives linked below). On the 30th, the 52nd Division of the Seoul Central District court further granted this request. The 'indirect enforcement' ruling means that each individual member of NewJeans will be fined 1 billion won (approx. $725,000) if they continue with entertainment activities independent of ADOR, which would be in violation of the injunction. This enforcement with potential fines does NOT apply to any of NewJeans' independent activities between the granting of the injunction and the granting of this 'indirect enforcement'. These fines will only apply to future activities going forward, or at least until rulings with NewJeans' appeal or the main contract validity case changes anything (next hearing on June 5th). (Source: Chosun Biz, MK Sports) The Korea Herald: Court orders NewJeans to pay Ador 1 billion won for each unauthorized activity Discussion Post Korea JoongAng Daily: Court orders NewJeans members to pay ADOR $725,600 for every independent entertainment activity A statement by NewJeans' representatives was made later in the day primarily acknowledging the indirect enforcement ruling, but reiterating that it is temporary and will no longer have an effect if NewJeans win their appeal of the injunction. (Source: Ilgan Sports) The 2nd hearing for Source Music's damages lawsuit against Min Hee Jin took place at the 12th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Western District Court. (Quick recap: 1st was January 10th, 2nd was previously scheduled for March 14th, postponed per Source Music's request). Legal representatives were present. Source Music had a 20-minute presentation prepared, but Min Hee Jin's representatives objected to the inclusion of KakaoTalk messages in the presentation. They claimed the messages were illegally obtained and requested the hearing to be closed/private. Source Music denied the messages were obtained illegally, claiming they were gained from company devices with consent. The court went with a temporary compromise to keep the hearing public, but not allow discussion/display of the messages until they were reviewed again. A special hearing to review the messages will take place June 27th. (Source: Sports Today) 250605 The Seoul Central District Court Division 41 held the second hearing for ADOR seeking confirmation of validity for their exclusive contract with NewJeans. Only legal representatives were in attendance. NewJeans' side primarily argued that ADOR had not met their obligations and that their evidence they were preparing to support NewJeans' activities, like finding a new producer, was inadequate. ADOR's side argued that NewJeans' reasons for allegedly terminating their contract continually changed, indicating they are arbitrary and being made up with retroactive hindsight. The issue of some evidence being collected illegally also came up again from NewJeans' side. Judge Jung Hoe-Il specifically inquired if both/either sides were willing to come to an agreement, encouraging them to do so. NewJeans' representatives strongly indicated this was unlikely as the trust in ADOR had completely collapsed. ADOR's representatives indicated they could see negotiating an agreement once the court comes to a final decision. The 3rd hearing was set for July 24th. (Sources: X Sport News, Maeil Kyungjae) 250612 The next hearing regarding the Shareholder Agreement termination and exercising put/call options lawsuits between HYBE and Min Hee Jin was held at the Seoul Central District Court's 31st Division. Arguments from each side mostly re-tread what we've already covered. HYBE's side argued they were justified in ending the shareholder agreement due to the threat Min Hee Jin posed to the company. Min Hee Hin's side argued the timing of the audit/termination did not align purely with that concern and that some KakaoTalk messages and emails were obtained illegally and not admissable as evidence. HYBE also indicated they had a witness to give testimony at the next meeting, which the court accepted. The next hearing with closing arguments, was set for September 11th for both lawsuits. (Sources: Maeil Kyungjae, TV Daily, Sports Today) 250617 Following up from April 16th when NewJeans appealed the court's decision to uphold the injunction and halt on their independent activities, the Seoul High Court reaffirmed the earlier decision. The court rejected NewJeans' appeal. They determined there was no significant change in the material/arguments presented for the appeal and the original decision to grant ADOR's injunction was justified. There was further clarification that the management conflict between HYBE and Min Hee Jin, and her no longer being NewJeans' producer, did not constitute a valid argument for the alleged collapse of trust between ADOR and NewJeans. The group's withdrawal from ADOR is considered arbitrary, that their artistic freedom or activity is not impeded since they are able to do so within their exclusive contract, and that any damages resulting from attempting independent activities are self-inflicted. 2. I wonder if foreign idols find the conservative culture in Korea very difficult to adjust to.

  • 1 hour ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Korea has quite a conservative culture in general, at least from what I observed whilst travelling there. Great respect is placed upon manners, traditions and respecting elders. It is still a Christian society at its core, even if majority atheist nowadays. There are liberal attitudes to some things (legal termination of pregnancy, for example) but attitudes towards other issues, especially any sort of LGBTQ rights are majority frowned upon, despite protest from the younger generations. I can imagine this disregard is only made worse in the scandal-avoidant industry. It is this rather strict culture that makes me wonder if it is difficult to adjust to for foreigners. For example, Thai idols. I know that Thailand is by no means a perfectly progressive liberal country, nor is Korea some ultra-conservative traditional state. However, I do think the markedly different attitudes on LGBTQ+ people must be difficult to adjust to. It can be assumed that Thai idols enter training camps and suddenly get told that this thing they have seen as normal their whole life is actually a massive taboo. To expand, 10% of Thai people openly identify as LGBTQ+ in some form in 2025. With this in mind, it is unlikely that a Thai trainee would not have been friends / acquaintances with at least one person who was part of this group, especially in major cities with large populations of young people. I can’t imagine the turmoil of suddenly being told that this (potentially close) person’s identity is something to be wary - if not downright ashamed - of. That’s got to mess with your head, especially as a teenager. This doesn’t just apply to Thai trainees though. Many Kpop idols, even if ethnically Korean, were raised in countries like Canada and Australia. I’m not going to say that homophobia doesn’t exist in these countries (it most definitely does) but I would argue that the attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people are a lot more relaxed overall. Two women kissing in public would barely cause a blink for most people in these countries, disregarding a small extreme minority. In Korea, it would be completely shocking. Same-sex couples can also get married in these countries and have protection against discrimination, whilst in Korea they have none of these things (except from a few regional restrictions). Another thing that would be a huge adjustment would be the rigidity of manners in Korea, something I struggled with at first when visiting. There was an expectation of politeness and respect (especially to elders) that I simply never felt whilst living in the west. Although I think the respect of it all was actually very pleasant, I can imagine that it would be stressful to learn all these societal norms so quickly, particularly in a high-pressure, formal environment like a trainee camp. Honestly, I commend idols who have moved to Korea from other countries, as they seem to assimilate very well for the most part. Whether this is due to the rigorous training, I don’t know, but as someone who struggled even moving from the UK to Canada, I have to hold a glass to them. I just got out of a rabbit hole listening to some 2nd gen groups I loved back then and I just cant help but reminisce how fun it was in that era. 2nd gen groups songs just hit diff! Theyre so iconic and every group had a distinct sound. Their performances were also so powerful. A lot of shows also were present where groups can interact like School Bell (?) or 2Days and 1 night, Hello Baby etc. How about you guys? Which groups did u stan or songs u miss? For me, whenever I want to have that wave of nostalgia, I just listen to F(x), Shinee, Girls Gen, 2ne1, Kara, Tara, Brown Eyed Girls, Sistar, Boyfriend, B1A4, Cnblue, BAP, Beast etc. I’m exposing myself lol. submitted by /u/NoSyllabub9427 [link] [comments]

By this time of year, I already have an idea of who is most likely to win song of the year at MMA but I'm not so sure this year. The releases this year feel so mid...? If I had to place my bet, I would give it to Ive with rebel heart but honestly it could be anyone's game. What do you guys think? submitted by /u/Infamous_Egg_5625 [link] [comments]

8. Aespa skipping awards season shows how they're truly a league of their own.

I just the saw the news and I'm not all that surprised. It shows how big they've gotten that they dont need award shows anymore, the award shows need them. They're the Blackpink of the 4th generation, ascended past everyone else and into a league of their own. Truly legendary group. submitted by /u/Lost-Investigator266 [link] [comments]

9. something im curious about with idols describing their ideal types

of course their companies are supposed to know and tell them what they're going to answer as it seems to be a popular question in sk and also one that must be very important to delulu fans, but with them describing things that (i think) aren't very widespread in korea, but are a part of the beauty standard, like pale skin and big eyes, didn't these companies think that it's risqué and might dissapoint the fans that don't look like that?? submitted by /u/milaya_milashka [link] [comments]

Basically the title. I’ll go first, I’m an Atiny, I love 98% of their discography. But for some reason I don’t like Lemon drop as much. Not sure why the song just never grew on me. Also I’m a huge fan of Seventeen but I just don’t really like love, money, fame as much And for Le sserafim I like alot of their music but easy never really vibed with me This is my personal opinion, please be nice. If we were all the same that would be rather boring submitted by /u/ClickMelodic8652 [link] [comments]

12. MNET survival shows ar a disaster to talent

Visuals have always been important in kpop, as well as stage presence, overall appeal and group chemistry. But you CANNOT tell me that they are more important than pure talent and charisma. That's why jooheon is in MX. That's why Bobby is in iKon. That's why Jongho, Hui, Sungkwan, CL, Soyeon, Ken, Jay and Keita!! Etc etc I could go on.. are all in their respective groups. These individuals don't necessarily fit the hallyu look, but they are INCREDIBLY talented and are a pillar of their group. Ever since 2018 I see over and over again trainees/idols who get their dreams crushed because they simply "don't look the part" and it breaks my fucking heart. Yes the industry is cruel, yes it's fun to vote for good looking guys/girls.. but there's a point where we gotta stop and realize this could change somebody's life. I'm upset. submitted by /u/justmeIguess6 [link] [comments]

13. I need eyekons to remember where their faves come from!!

so recently HxG released a visualizer video for the song mean girls katseye version because previously they released a visualizer video dream academy version of the same song as a celebration of the 2nd anniversary since the show first aired. not long after they uploaded the video eyekons demanded HxG to delete the dream academy version video because they think that the only purpose of HxG making that video was only to promote their new girl group consisting of dream academy trainees who did not make it to debut with katseye who's about to debut next year. they said HxG made katseye doing charity work of promoting a flop and nugu group. Do eyekons suddenly have amnesia or something?? Did they forgot how hybe made a lot of their groups promoting dream academy?? Not to mention they literally made lesserafim appear on the show to interacted with the trainees and do a dance challenge on tiktok for clouds. Did they forgot that katseye were once nugu too before touch went viral and became a hit?? submitted by /u/Party-Confection417 [link] [comments]
