2. People "protecting" the kids from JYP are harmful.

  • 32 minutes ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Today, during Han's birthday livestream, Han said that one of his nicknames was *bug*. Someone on camera advised him not to, he giggled, and wrote it anyways. That was it. But the way some people are blowing this out of proportion, oh my god... Tons of comments championing for him, saying that he can write anything he wants cause he's adult, how they can do whatever they want cause they make JYP all their money or yada yada yada... Guys... Calm. Down. It's literally common PR stuff. It's not even a K-Pop thing, it happens all the time in the western too. Adele is not allowed to use her own instagram. Taylor Swift always jokes how she doesn't do anything unless Tree Paine allows her to. Billie Eilish deletes stuff from her TikTok all the time... It's literally the most common and harmless PR thing ever to advise a celebrity on their image. It's just to keep them brand safe and keep those ambadorships coming, please. I get that some groups are mistreated by their labels, but there is not a sign of Stray Kids being the case. They renewed their contract with JYP. They teased JYP and their managers to no end. BangChan has asked several times to stop the hate towards the company... So why people keep behaving like there's some sort of battle to be fought? T_T Stop being an JYP anti, it literally only harms the kids. I don't know who needs to hear this, but when a company gets a bad rep, it harms EVERYONE on that company. Promotions become harder to book, sponsorships becomes more sparse, resources get limited... Please, I know that a lot of you care about the kids, but there's literally no fight to be fought here. Just listen to Bang Chan and stop with the hate. submitted by /u/FitCarpenter6802 [link] [comments]

4. Is Taemin from Shinee the most memed idol lol?

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Is Taemin the idol with the most memes? He has not one, not two, but so so many iconic memes that non-fans all know bc he's such a weird and unintentionally funny guy who's been around for so long. May he continue providing us with ridiculous memes for years to come 🙏 submitted by /u/chocolatetomatoes [link] [comments]

5. In defense of potato quality American morning show performances

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This is coming up with aespa "Rich Man" but okay, let's also look at ARTMS who reddit is way less likely to say negative stuff about. aespa "Rich Man," Good Morning America: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0L8zr3no5Q ARTMS "Burn", Good Day New York: https://youtu.be/_mPRQRSRh2M Relatedly -- I'll include since it's timely -- LSF "Hot" + "Antifragile" on America's Got Talent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtMGh0fOO7o So firstly some background on these shows (except for AGT), these are incredibly boring morning TV shows that just happen to be on while you're eating breakfast or getting your kids ready for school or something. The local one at least tells you if you need an umbrella. The national one, no clue, I guess it's designed to never quite be so boring you need to change the channel. Honestly my whole theory is kpop has a big competitive advance on these shows by being not-boring to half-glance at while it's on. So take a look here's some new Ourii who ARTMS won that morning, from "Burn" YT comments: When I was getting my children get ready for school, I turned on the TV to watch some news and I wasn’t expecting some good music to light up my morning haha! I’m glad i found the name of this song, so catchy! Anyway, what I like about all these shows is the fact the stages are less optimized for music shows and the film crew aren't up to date with latest kpopology is you actually wind up getting a recording a lot closer to a "dance practice" video in cinematography. So with both ARTMS / aespa smaller stage and wider camera angle keeps the whole group on camera pretty much the whole time that means you get to watch your bias the whole time and some performers (and I really do mean Giselle here) have really good performance vibes when they're not center stage so it's just fun to be able to watch them throughout no backup dancers, which I think is cool, shows the choreo more, and closer to the dance practice vibe Something the show with ARTMS did but not aespa's show is a mini-interview, just 2 questions. But check youtube, that's the most re-watched part of the performance. (They got flustered at an English question, which according to Jinsoul in a later post were off-script, so, flustered.) Plus in both these cases, if you're an American up to date on your groups' schedules, you could make the audiences in the morning. I think there's overall some effect for seeing kpop outside its natural habitat, like woo we're legit even for people who don't know how to run a whole kpop music show program. Also honestly there's no purer joy in kpop than int'l fans finding their faves on some random show. Here's another time aespa got featured on some random non-kpop show (@theonlymajed) and the whole damn kpop fandom showed up in the comments https://www.youtube.com/shorts/OM-nUv50CWU submitted by /u/abyssazaur [link] [comments]

10. WHO DO YOU THINK MOST FREAKIEST 4TH/5TH IDOLS?

  • 3 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Idk bout y'all but i hate to admit when i see compilations idols being dirty minded and freaky,i was like in denial and think they just make normal joke and refuse to think they're like normal grown adults,i mean to be fair, they're idols which what they say can carry huge consequences in today's gen so like i doubt they will get away for making dirty joke.I dont think they're dirty jokes at all or them being freaky in front of camera to begin with😅 submitted by /u/https-rose [link] [comments]

12. I miss when groups use to prioritize having a unique identity instead of trends

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Hey guys I've been a kpop fan since 2018, and I must say there have been many changes to the kpop industry over the years, both good and bad. I wanna talk about one bad difference I've noticed though, and it's the way groups seem to care more about what's trending aesthetically and musically than actually having a brand identity or musical sound. So many groups sound similar to me sometimes because they do the same musical genre in the same comeback era. I will be watching an mv for group A and it reminds me of Group B's mv or song they had. I remember watching a stayc mv (either this year or last year) and some of the editing reminded me of aespa's whiplash mv. Sometimes the outfits get repeated between groups so much it's crazy. Accusations of plagiarism have always existed in this space of course, but I feel like they've increased and its no surprise because groups keeps doing the same trending things musically and visually with slight changes so it doesn't look too similar (which barely works btw) Groups who use to have an iconic sound or look have either lost those unique elements in pursuit of the trending y2k/hiphop/cybersiglism metalic looking aesthetics or stopped being active or popular overall. Its sad to me. That's what made certain groups fun to me. I use to love redvelvet's scary cute concept, or ateez being pirates, Izone's elegant concept, Itzy's confident concept with the runway type of music they had (idk the specific genre name, but like in wannabe) or even Kard's Latin sound or dreamcatchers metal/rock thing they had going on. I miss that stuff. Only a few groups have been consistent with a sound or aesthetic tbh like txt, enhypen, triple s, stray kids (to a degree), illit, newjeans (when they were active) etc, but I wish more groups would embrace being different. I dont hate these groups, I just hate the direction management across the different companies are going with them. submitted by /u/EnvironmentLife4455 [link] [comments]

13. I have made a story that has a plot but highlights issues in the k-pop industry

  • 4 hours ago schedule

It is called "On Our Own" It was released in July this year and has been getting popular. I have readers from Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Romania, UK, America. It's crazy! Anyways, I want to make a second one but at the same time, I want to bring the fandom kpop stans together so we (Yes, we) can discuss these issues, enjoy the book and have fun. So, I made a discord server. I'll link it at the bottom. I'll also link the book at the bottom too. There is some triggering content but it is not often and only appears once or twice. Here are some idols who feature in it (DISCLAIMER: These idols are not like this in real life, I just used who I thought would suit it best and just gave them a completely different character!!!) - Han Jisung (Stray Kids) - Jihyo (Twice) - Ni-ki (Enhypen) - Chaewon (Le Sserafim) - Kyujin (Nmixx) - Winter (aespa) - Yeonjun (TxT) And many more! We all know that Wopjin left the group in late 2019. I'm currently watching a video of the evolution of Stray Kids and realize God's Menu was only a year after he left. 17. I'm very very very excited for i.o.i's reunion/comeback

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

There have been reports and talks about the 10th anniversary reunion for quite some time but after they announced that Kang Mina wont be joining, it made me truly believe its going to happen. Hopefully no more members are going to drop out. Can't wait for May! ioi is my favorite group, which might be weird since i wasnt even kpop stan when the program aired and i became fan long after their disbandment. And truly dived into the group after many of the groups with ioi members had already disbanded. I just think it's such a good line-up and man were they good with variety. All that chaos! Also their bond after almost 10 years is crazy, there is always members hanging out and mentioning each other. And they were a group such short time. My biases are Somi, Doyeon and Yoojung but i truly enjoy all of them. All the groups and soloist put some damn good music, im not up to date for all the dramas the actors side is doing but still admiring the work from afar and keep eye for projects and dramas that interest me. I'm also firm believer Dream girls is overhated, i quite like it! What are your hopes and dreams for the reunion? Personally i hope we get at least mini (in reality it's probably a digital singe). I know multiple members have mentioned making songs for ioi long time ago, so mini with songs that are produced by the members that do produce would be a dream. Also i hope the song (if we get one) is not a ballad! Also i hope they do lot of variety, the promotions probably arent long but hoping for some. I rambled random thoughts but anyways it's hard to find active ioi fans, would love to maybe revive the ioi subreddit or create a reddit group chat or something. If anyone wants to talk about ioi feel free to hit me up. submitted by /u/ioigirly [link] [comments]

18. Was CORTIS supposed to be 6 members?

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Recently in the documentary on Hybes youtube channel about CORTIS during there song camp there seemed to be a trainee which their face blurred out. Do you guys think he was another trainee and what is your theory on why he didn’t make the final line up. It makes me sad 😔. He worked really hard too and even joined the song camp where they allegedly made like 300 songs all that hard work just to not debut it’s sad to think about. What do you think. #cortis submitted by /u/Helpful-Ebb-2403 [link] [comments]

19. Did aespa’s music change recently?

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

So I wouldn’t call myself a my, but I really enjoy aespa’s music casually. Honestly, their songs have always been really good to me, but I kind of feel like the last two releases fell off compared to their older stuff. Up until Whiplash I was vibing with everything, but after that it feels… different? Did something happen behind the scenes, like a change in producer, writing team, or overall concept? Curious if anyone else feels the same or if I’m just overthinking it. submitted by /u/Forward-Arachnid4068 [link] [comments]

20. Finally watched Episode 7 of Ateez Salary Lupin (I know, I know, I’m late)

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

What began as silly locked-room role playing turned into a K-pop Hunger Games. I will never get over watching Wooyoung, Jongho, and San circling Yeosang and the Captain like a pack of hyenas. Woo’s sing-song “Hongjoong where aaaare you” now lives rent free in my brain. He’s my bias so I knew he was insane but he was on another level. Can’t wait to watch it again in six months when I need to a pick-me-up 😂 submitted by /u/Carridactyl_ [link] [comments]
