There’s a big difference between getting less popular over time and never being known in the first place. I know that we now live in a time were rookie groups pull the same numbers than groups who were at their peak in the 2000s or early 2010s however, some groups that debuted in the 2nd or early 3rd generation were very popular in their time they might’ve had hit songs, big fandoms, and industry respect. But after years of inactivity, disbandment, or members focusing on solo careers, they naturally lost momentum and aren’t as visible to newer fans. That doesn’t make them “nugus.” It just means they’ve faded from public memory due to time, not because they were never known in the first place. T-ara, After School, Block B, Wanna One, 2NE1, 2PM, Miss A, B.A.P, Infinite, Teen Top (list goes on) at their peak, they were major acts. They may not be active now, but they’re part of Kpop history. Actual nugus would be small company groups who never broke into mainstream recognition even during their active "peak" years. Calling older, once successful groups “nugus” flattens K-pop history in my opinion, it ignores how the industry evolves and how trends shift. You can't call a 2000s pop band “irrelevant nobodies” just because you don't remember them. It misses the context. Maybe this post is dumb or it doesn't make sense to people because it's not that deep, which i can understand but i just thought about it. submitted by /u/Injeolmie_04 [link] [comments]
IMO, their debut promo gotta be one of the best promo a newly debuted group ever had in recent years. Bighit knows to target all their main music markets (South Korea, US and Japan). Their Korean promo (mid Aug-late Sept): 6 weeks of Music show promos with them alternating between promoted tracks (GO!, FaSHioN & What you want), radio shows, tonnes of YT variety related promos, a whole debut Documentary, lots of life performances as well. Their US promo (Oct): Now it’s a bit different than the usual. The collab with redbull dance competition, GO! dance workshop, iheart Radio live performances, a kpop festival & few other fansigns etc. While they’re away in the US, they still released lots of behind the scene contents (for Chuseok etc so that domestic fans stay occupied). Then, by the end of Oct they’ll attend an award show in S.Korea again. Japan (Nov): They have a couple of schedules prepared for Japan market as well. A music festival and a showcase then a couple of other stuffs (fansign etc) that have yet to be announced. By end of Nov onwards they’ll be appearing on award shows and year end festivals. It took a lot of times to prepare such long promo cycle, I’m glad that BH staffs (Team 3) support them a lot and made them able to do such long promo cycle. Hope they stay healthy, these upcoming months going to be a ride for them and their fans. Ofc, there’s a few hiccups like BH not releasing GO! at the same time as WYW when it went viral on Tiktok but I guess it did work in their favour since the song is pretty stable on Spotify global and still reaching new peaks in S.Korea charts atm. submitted by /u/bxxx1001 [link] [comments]
Like any species, kpop fans have evolved into something totally different from what they once were. What's something you have noticed in the new era of kpop fans? I really hate the new rise in "ragebait" kpop fan accounts, especially on twitter and tiktok. They're truly deranged 😭 submitted by /u/0x1trinity [link] [comments]

It’s been over a month since our fav chemistry duo, Hanbin and Jaehyun, stepped down as emcees :” and I’ve been dying to know who’s gonna take over next. Wanted to throw the question out to everyone here - across all fandoms: Who do you think should be the next Mcountdown emcee(s)? And more importantly, who do you think would have great chemistry on screen? Personally, I’d love to see Ahyeon (from Babymonster) take on this role. Knowing YG, it might be a long shot :/ but she’s effortlessly funny and would be amazing at hyping up backstage and interacting with other idols. Also, as an ALD1 follower, I would KILL for a TraineeA reunion. Sangwon (from ALD1) and James (from Cortis) instantly come to mind—they’re both goofballs and I feel like they’d have such fun, natural banter as emcees. Actually, the Cortis boys in general have been wild lately (in the best way lol) and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them got the spot. Juhoon and Keonho already seemed super comfortable as temporary MCs :) Anyways - throwing it over to y’all: Who would you love to see as the next emcee pair? Any duos you think would have amazing chemistry? submitted by /u/Candid-Alarm [link] [comments]

I’m Korean-American but grew up in Korea until my early 20’s. I’ve also been a fan of kpop since the early 2010’s. While back in the day if was definitely common to see the classic and unapologetic koreaboo, since about 2019/2020 where there was a new surge of international kpop fans, there’s been a shift in the way people act regarding Korea. With words “parasocial” and “rose tinted glasses” becoming popular and kpop fans discovering that there’s a clear line between being a fan of kpop/Korean culture and being obsessed with it, the attitudes among kpop fans have now shifted. Instead of being perceived as a koreaboo or just another parasocial fan, they want to (reasonably so) separate themselves from those labels. Which to me seemed like a good step forward when it comes to enjoying kpop and talking about Korea in a way that wasn’t just all praise or obsession. Until the way to separate yourself from other kpop fans to seem superior and more aware of how parasocial kpop is was to start being prejudiced and discriminatory against Koreans and Korea as a whole. Instead of viewing Korea with a greater complexity instead of just, “wow, it’s an amazing country with nothing wrong”, kpop fans have now started describing Korea as this terrible place with terrible people. This is most common when male idols are exposed to be either sex offenders, racist, or just conservative in general. While kpop fans do condemn that idol, they also immediately start the “I told you so! All Korean men are terrible, so the people who were fans of him were just stupid dick suckers who should’ve known better!” spiel. When you try to push back on the clear generalization of Korean men, you’re then bombarded with comments claiming that you’re just defending Korean men because you’re obsessed with them. What…? I feel like kpop fans have gone so far in trying to prove that they’re different, that they’re in no way parasocial, that they’re aware that a lot of men in Korea lean towards more conservative/traditional views (which tend to be inherently misogynistic) that they’re now generalizing and being prejudiced against Koreans. You can call out the clear conservatism in Korea without claiming every single Korean man believes those views. You can call out the misogyny in Korea without infatilisng Korean women and claiming that all of them are progressive people who should escape the hells of Korea (in fact, many Korean women are conservative themselves). It’s like kpop fans have no nuance. They go from one extreme to the other. It’s either defend Korea wholeheartedly or despise it wholeheartedly. As someone who is Korean, I think I can say with confidence that you can still enjoy kpop and the good of Korean culture/media without looking at the country with googly eyes. You can also criticize the bad of Korea without being straight up discriminatory and claiming every case of violence in Korea is just “typical Korean behavior”. Conservatism and femicide are issues in almost every country. While those issues are more extreme in other places and it is definitely apparent in Korea, they are not social or cultural norms that only Koreans believe in or practice. submitted by /u/Calm_Ad_7299 [link] [comments]
What i mean by that is just one time thing and will not last long and didn't bring any exposure to the kpop industry. Since the success of the movie and the songs kpop industry stream numbers and album sales is still the same like before like nothing change, not to mention twice recents comeback struggle on the Charts despite the movie used their songs as one of the soundtracks. Luminate actually published an interesting article about this. KDH wasn't leading fans to check out Kpop. The success of the film and the songs could've been due to timing and luck. submitted by /u/Party-Confection417 [link] [comments]
So i feel like TheBlackLabel ia finally doing something right for their artist. In my last post i talk about Meovv which in nutshell i talked about how TheBlackLabel is making bad decisions by using YG "exclusive" strategy and now they are finally doing something right If you look at Meovv this year they promoted both Hands Up and Drop Top for 1 month+ which is good, they also seems to appear more in variety show and they also started promoting on MBC Music Core!. Not only that but TheBlackLabel artist also finally are doing challenge and interact with other idols (finally) and its great for them to promote their artist. Another one is ADP,although they are becoming the punching bag for "broader" fans especially Tarzzan. The group definitely are thriving in locally ,not only that but their debut definitely feel polished than meovv last year and their promotion was very good with TheBlacklabel promote them on music for almost 2 month of promotion and sending them to more variety show right away from debut (although lately there's a complain about the yt channel for rarely putting out any content about them - might because they will comeback on November but not sure). Jeon Somi is also finally having a comeback and CLOSER was pretty okay,it was my favourite although her previous release like Fast Forward and XOXO were definitely the PEAK.CLOSER was definitely better than Ice Cream. Its good for her to comeback after some hiatus and how many hate she got for Ice Cream. Also CLOSER was definitely was promoted very good than Ice Cream(although her previous promotion before Ice Cream was better but atleast there is an improvement a bit) Now I think I will try to follow up with TheBlackLabel since i really liked some of the Artist their Meovv,ADP,and Somi. The company finally making right decisions by promoting their artist right and good music releases timing and distance and give fans a great amount of releases for one year like a good normal kpop artist. They were also rumor about TheBlackLabel boy group which in my opinion they should try to kinda make the bgs different and bassically not TheBlackLabel/Yg vibe.I hope the bgs to be more like Tws,Illit or NctWish type of concept. We can see how Teddy can make a non HipHop Yg/TBL type sound with Izna so I HOPE he can make his bgs more (extremely very) different while also has TBL sound. Also Meovv just drop Burning Up and its honestly straight into my playlist and definitely an definitely FIRE. Also ADP will comeback on November with a song title One More Time. This is the end of my post and i would like to hear your thoughts on TheBlackLabel!
