Ever since a few days back when HYBE and Geffen announced another collaboration and some of the girls from Dream Academy (Katseye's survival show) were revealed, Eyekons and other stans have been worried about the new girl group's potential to compete with Katseye in the West. Just looking at previous patterns and trends, there's no reason to be concerned or bothered by that. HYBE has debuted groups close together since the 4th generation. NewJeans and Le Sserafim are three months apart. ILLIT and TWS are two months apart. TXT and Enhypen debuted a year apart. The common denominator? They're all highly successful groups. Debuting close together means absolutely nothing in this day and age. The industry is so oversaturated that many groups are debuting weeks apart and still achieving massive success. HYBE are also clearly intending on pursuing a different concept for their new girl group - they wouldn't have copies of the same group under the same label. They also may potentially target the Japanese market more, as I believe they're trying to find another member who is Japanese. This is all to say, Katseye is already huge. The only thing to worry about is whether they can maintain their popularity. The song has already been released in some countries, since it dropped at midnight local time. That said, my initial thought was that even though the song is so short, it doesn’t really leave you hanging. It even has a bridge! Production-wise, I think it’s good. As someone who loves beats that scream fashion runway, the track feels really addictive to me. Lyrically, the song is just a standard pop track. It’s your typical anthem about empowerment and confidence. Honestly, there’s nothing groundbreaking in the lyrics, but they’re still fine. Overall, this is a decent track. It didn’t move me that much, but it’s still a good listen. Maybe it’ll grow on me with more listens. I don’t know if this will be unpopular or not but something that I’ve been feeling for a while now, is that groups seem to stay pretty stagnant after the 2 year mark. If anyone has groups that can prove me wrong please tell me. But i honestly think this is because companies won’t stop debuting new groups that don’t even really have that distinct of concepts. Like please just let the groups that you have already debuted marinate a bit longer and invest in them, instead of shoving a younger group down our throats that doesn’t even have anything new to offer to the industry as a whole. I also think the groups that had the most potential to grow ended up having controversy’s that stopped their growth, nwjns, kiss of life, etc. Also about Katseye and this new group, I’m worried HXG are going to ruin Katseyes momentum and lose the hype around them by already over-saturating the market for them🫤 A big selling point of Katseye imo, is that they are one of a kind right now. submitted by /u/M0us3Cheezz [link] [comments]
