I have been loving Hangyul for a long time now and he's my ult. He's someone I really admire so much and look up to. These days, I have been very worried and very unhappy because there aren't many activities for Hangyul these days. I envy people who have a happy stan life. Those who were able to see their idols often. I wonder why he's not so active anymore. I just thought that maybe he's trying to keep POLARIX's activities a secret, or maybe there's really not an activity for them/him these days. And I wonder if he's coming back to BAE173. I wonder if his contract with Pocketdol Studio is coming to an end, but I'm not sure when he signed his contract. He has been very inactive these days, and I'm getting extremely worried. I am still here lingering to that hope that he will get recognized someday, consistently performing on stages and appear in variety shows 'cause he has that personality that people will definitely like. If he disappears, I will be extremely sad because I would never find a celebrity who is as genuine and kind as him. He's such a gem. Recently there are some I have been a casual listener of and decided to fully stan (Xikers, Cravity, Twice, Le Sserafim, Seventeen), others I may have heard about in passing and decided to do a sudden dive (NOWZ, 82major, Ampers&One, StayC). I feel like the beginning phase is my favorite phase, mostly because I love learning and expanding my music taste. There was a time when Korea was considering an idol lip sync ban and i personally think that is what K-pop needs these days. It's so frustrating to see idols going on huge international stages to represent their home country but doing lip sync there. It very jarring and stands out badly for the audience who are used to live stages. It's THEIR decision to, and that's okay. As someone who's been watching BTS since the no more dream era, I find it funny how it was so much easier for them and their company to cast black female leads when they were enamored with the 'Hip Hop image'. Even going in the streets to find black women to specifically typecast for these roles and working with many black people regarding video production etc (when they were at their lowest in popularity). But now that they have gradually 'progressed' from that 'image', while still collaborating with black creators and occassionally adopting certain features of that image for their production, suddenly its quite difficult. You get the tone, when its a homey or Korean based song intented to be marketed in their home country, we get a Korean female lead. When it's meant for international audiences, (they have to show us its international by having English lyrics) they have a White OR Korean woman? Formula, black sound (sometimes) + black mainstream artist + sometimes a sprinkle of AAVE+ predominantly white production crew--- you get the rest. I thought I was tripping, but when 'Killin it girl' dropped I was like, okay this is a hipop beat, urban aesthetics popular with mainstream black culture, plus mainstream popular black artist, P.O.C dance crew, but the female lead? Reboot is considered a kpop classic and it's one of my personal favourite albums. It was the comeback album from Wonder Girls after a 3 year hiatus. Members Sunye and Sohee had left, but Sunmi had come back, with the other 3 members being Yeeun, Yubin and Hyerim. These 4 members learned to play instruments to promote as a band and participated in the lyrics and production of each song. They had individual teasers with them playing their instruments, which I absolutely love, before the release of the title track, I Feel You. Wonder Girls had done retro concepts before but Reboot took it to a new level, each song being influenced by 80s pop music, becoming a true concept album, which I feel is relatively rare in kpop, at least for the time. The album has the playful, flirty, and charismatic songs like Candle, Baby Don't Play, Loved, and John Doe, the melancholic and ethereal Rewind (which I think having a bit of a resurgence) and Faded Love, the dramatic and atmospheric One Black Night (Yeeun sounds amazing on this), the fun Back and Oppa, and ends with the slow burn mid tempo and ballad Gone and Remember, which feature some nice vocal layering and harmonization. I actually made a post about the album for its 5th anniversary. Its interesting to go back and see what my thoughts were back then. Five years ago I said Candle, One Black Night and Faded Love were my favourites and today I would say Faded Love takes the top spot, I just love the melancholic feel. Even after 10 years I still regularly listen to most songs on this album, I just never get tired of them, they still sound fresh and inspired. I am sad that the Wonder Band was a relatively short era before disbandment but I am at least glad it gave us such an amazing album, and followed up by another amazing comeback with Why So Lonely. So watching Blackpink's concert on a live stream, I noticed how hyped the crowd was. More singing, dancing and a little less filming than at other places. I'm sure it was similar to the Stray Kids concert - was it last week? By the way, the concert was fantastic, great energy and a loud crowd can really hype up the artists. I also want to say, that dancing and being loud might be a cultural thing and that being more quiet doesn't mean they love the group less. I have been into K-pop for more than two years now, and I have always wondered why there is no TCG with booster packs like Pokémon, Dragon Ball, etc. I mean imo the whole franchise i kinda built that way to bring nearly everything on the market and give the fans some enjoyable stuff to buy (merch and especially PCs). A TCG with booster-packs and so on would just make sense and be sooo cool in my opinion (not cool for my wallet though haha). I mean imagine opening a pack for 5 bucks and getting a holographic secrete rare Winter or a group photo of Stray Kids. Maybe I'm missing something, like that PCs would die or that TCGs are not popular in the Korean market (even though there is a whole other market for Korean Pokémon), but on the other hand, I think it would be a big selling point for the industry and labels. I’m sure it’s happened to many of us. Idols aren’t perfect and sometimes their actions don’t align with our personal values or morals. You never really get to know them on a personal level, but the way K-pop is structured makes it hard not to form some kind of attachment to the groups you stan. And the longer you stan, the deeper that emotional investment grows. Well, at least it did for me. So when they do something truly disappointing, it really, really stings. I learned that the hard way with the Kiss of Life incident a few months ago. I was their fan from day one, and it took a lot of emotional toll and inner conflict to finally move on from the group. It wasn’t something I decided overnight. I had to sit with the disappointment, question my boundaries, and come to terms with the fact that the connection I felt wasn’t enough to overlook what happened. Even now, I still miss them sometimes and think about how things might have been if they had never gone through with that livestream. Have you ever had to deal with that kind of internal conflict as a K-pop fan? Does it take time for you to move on? Wow fam, KATSEYE did pretty well in Chicago/Lollapalooza 2025 just several minutes ago. There were some cool performances with the remixes and so on too. MIA was too distorted for me (I know it's like that on the studio version), but ya, the ending had a huge surprise too, rofl. Every time I watch these American/European/etc. festivals stuff I think most of us want the Korean camera style instead of random zooming/flyovers/etc. with the cinematography, lol.
