1.544. What are some of the best English lyrics in K-pop?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Not that I don't love the bad ones but I've seen lots of lists of the worst English lyrics, so I'm now curious about what you guys think are the best English lyrics. Specifically English, because I don't know nearly enough Korean to be able to recognize if a lyric is bad or not. Here are my personal criteria: I consider this the baseline for "good" lyrics: - Grammatically correct - Means something - Worded naturally - Makes sense in the context of the wider song meaning - Doesn't have any major cadence sins (in other words, the words that would be stressed if it was read aloud fall on stressed beats, and words that wouldn't be stressed do not.) Great lyrics might have some things like: - rhyming, internal rhyming, consonance, assonance, alliteration or other things that make lyrics pleasing to the ear - metaphor or other figurative language - an insightful or emotionally resonant message - wordplay - fits the musicality of the song- the lyrics are in a conversation with the production - other good lyrics surrounding it. If there's an incredible lyric in a song with otherwise not-so-good lyrics, it won't be able to shine as much. Also, what makes lyrics great will definitely depend on your personal preference, experiences, and biases. That's great! Tell me why you're really attached to a certain lyric. I'm asking this in large part because I want recommendations :) Obviously songs that were written by people who are fluent in English will tend to be better. (And if they're sung by people who speak English fluently, the singer can ideally help catch issues during recording and might stress words in a more natural way.) But not always. I think there are a lot of lyrics written by native English speakers that don't sound good, whether in k-pop or otherwise. I'd be especially interested in quality lyrics that you know were written by the artist, or by someone who isn't fluent in English. Writing solid lyrics in a language that isn't your mother tongue is super impressive! submitted by /u/FishermanOne889 [link] [comments]

1.545. HYBE x GEFFEN has (today) started new GLOBAL GIRL GROUP AUDTIONS after KATSEYE

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Looks like new change is coming to kpop labels, Coed groups, Global Groups, Localised groups like the new latin american group that is about to debut under HYBE. HYBE has their foots in all these 3 types of new markets and is leading the pack among big labels. Kpop bubble is not growing and has only made competition tougher for new groups when the pie is already limited. The new Global Girl group will be debuting maybe after 3 years so 4 years after KATSEYE Debut. Is this going to be a generation wise thing for global groups. Like KATSEYE, dear ALICE and VCHA in the 1st generation then in next 4 years other companies will also catch up and we will see many new global groups debuting. submitted by /u/tooshydooshy [link] [comments]

1.546. the kpop bubble has burst and that's okay

i know it's counterproductive to bring up things that happen on twitter because that site is the devil but back when i used twitter i saw people qrting kchartsmaster's acc whenever they posted a group's cb streams on spotify. very rarely groups got actual high numbers, only a few groups get more than a million in 24 hours. i cant help but think that is an indicator of kpop's current popularity rather than specific groups "flopping". since kpop in general has lost popularity those groups have also lost fans, but i think debuting with 500k streams or less is a rather high number these days. why? this is just my personal opinion but i think kpop has completely lost focus and this newer generation doesnt really have an identity with the exception of a couple groups. anti black scandals dont help kpop's image and that's why casual fans have chosen to not give kpop groups a listen, can't say i blame them. what do you guys think? submitted by /u/Aggressive_Hair_2346 [link] [comments]

1.547. Which idols were instantly recognizable to you? And which ones took you longer to tell apart?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Were there any idols that you saw once and could easily recognize from then on? Including their names too. I'm not saying that the other members look alike, it's more like some members have super distinct faces so it's impossible to mix them up with anyone else. I'm curious to see if most of us find the same idols the be the most unique looking in their group and which ones take longer to tell apart or if it's entirely an individual thing. Some of the members that I mixed up at the beginning were: Gaeul and Leeseo, Hyein and Haerin, Jisoo and Rose, and Yuna and Lia. The rest of the members of these groups I could tell apart immediately with no confusion at all. submitted by /u/sachiko468 [link] [comments]

Very hard and unsympathetic to the casual listener / player but if you love them, you know it. Like. dark foreboding lore everywhere you look. Minimal attempt to explain said lore. To the online wikis you go true to concept, laughs off attempts to be more mainstream protagonist is somehow a castaway or "tarnished" on some sort of revenge quest very long MVs/boss fights that you're really not intended to get on the first try. Whether you like them pretty much comes down to how you feel about not getting something the first try. online fandom will help you up to a point before just saying you're on your own / "git gud" submitted by /u/abyssazaur [link] [comments]

1.558. What K-pop merch would you buy even if you don’t stan the group?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule

I’d like to buy MEOVV's MY EYES OPEN VVIDE album (Jelly Paw version) just for the cat paw-shaped key rings. They're squishy and adorable. As a cat lover, I really want them. I'd also like to buy OH MY GIRL's Nonstop album (Chance and Quest version) because they are designed after board games. The albums come with a poster that looks like a board game, along with a randomly selected playing piece featuring one of the members. submitted by /u/mirroway [link] [comments]

1.560. Photographer repurposing concept, sets and props, or company blatantly copying?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm not one to jump to plagiarism accusations easily, but this appeared on my timelines and my fellows moas are *pissed* and, honestly, I can't blame them. This is either a case of a. a photographer recycling a concept he had already done, down to the same angles, poses and props (you can see in the 2nd and 3rd pic that's the same fridge with the same exact scuff marks; 4th and 5th pics show that it's the same photographer being credited for both); or b. Starship going out of their way to hire a photographer and a creative director who had previously worked with TXT (Rakta, cd for this photoshoot, was TXT's cd for years) to create an eerily similar concept. Honestly, both options seems pretty unprofessional, and the situation leaves a bad taste in my mouth cause Panic was Beomgyu's personal project and gift to moa he had created after going through a rough period, and having it disrespected this way is kinda sad. Add to it that SM also did an eerily similar concept as Yeonjun's mixtape for one of their bgs, so this isn't even the first time TXT's own concepts get copied... idk it's annoying. submitted by /u/Expecto-Morghulis [link] [comments]

1.562. Can ILLIT have one second of peace? Their hate train over *redacted* just barely ended and now they're getting dragged again simply because people can't praise Youngseo/ALLDAY PROJECT without taking shots at them. The way K-pop fans treat these literal minors is absolutely insane.

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’m so sick of this. ILLIT can’t even exist without getting dogpiled for something. The hate train over NWJNS just barely cooled off, and now they're getting dragged again just because people can’t praise Youngseo or ALLDAY PROJECT without throwing in some unnecessary ILLIT slander. What does one have to do with the other? It’s wild how K-pop fans think it’s normal to treat teenage girls like public enemy #1 over company decisions they had zero control over. These idols are minors. Literal kids. And yet people online feel no shame tearing them apart every time they trend. It’s performative outrage mixed with straight-up bullying, and somehow y’all keep pretending it’s “criticism.” But you'll be camping in the next post about how the K-pop industry needs to stop debuting minors!! You can uplift one group without tearing another down especially when the “another” is made up of young girls who did nothing but debut under the wrong company in your eyes. The way y’all project your weird beef with the industry onto these kids is actually disgusting submitted by /u/thebarted [link] [comments]
