I don’t post much, but I’ve been thinking a lot about something Junhan said recently in a Bubble Q&A and wanted to talk about it a bit. I’m not here to hate or start drama just to share how it made me feel and why I think it’s worth discussing. He was responding to a fan question about research topics and started talking about how different races supposedly have different "genetic strengths." He said something along the lines of Black people having more ear cells so they’re better at music, white people being good at breaking down sugar, and Asians/Indians having "skilled brains." Then he wondered if those strengths could be combined. I know some fans saw it as harmless curiosity, and I get that he probably didn’t mean anything bad. But for me, it still felt really off. Comments like that even when they sound “positive” are rooted in old stereotypes. Saying certain races are naturally better at specific things might sound flattering on the surface, but it still boxes people in and reduces them to their race. It just made me uncomfortable. I’ve spent years trying to unlearn that kind of thinking, and it was honestly a little disheartening to see it come up so casually from someone with a global platform in 2025. I don’t think he’s a bad person at all but that’s kind of the point. A lot of people repeat ideas like this without realizing the history and harm behind them. What also bothered me is how little response there’s been. No clear apology, just a vague follow-up. And I think that’s a missed opportunity. Idols today have huge, diverse audiences, and that comes with responsibility. Not just to avoid scandals, but to actually understand why some things are harmful in the first place. Again, this isn’t about attacking Junhan. I hope he gets a chance to learn from it. But I do think fans should be able to talk about stuff like this without it being seen as “overreacting” or trying to cancel someone. i got introduced to SuJu by my homeboy Elliot (he even has the nickname SuJew/Super Jewnior bc he's half Korean (dad) half French/Dutch/German/Norwegian/etc. and Ashkenazi Jewish (mother) therefore making Elliot Jewish) Elliot is aware of how problematic SuJu are, but he still is a HUGE fan of them (iirc i think theyre called "ELFs") and has their posters, lightstick and the Super Junior theme in our K-pop group themed friend group (my theme is Stray Kids) yes ik its basic to like the songs "knock out", "mr simple", "sorry sorry", "super girl" and im addicated to "house party" "cooking cooking" (i would LOVE some recs) ik bts, maybe skz, bigbang (the theme of one of my other friends), exo, bp maybe, are/were also problematic yet i never had a problem w those 3 (except scumri and kris poo for obvious reasons), so should I still be wanting to get into SuJu? or should i js stick w skz? submitted by /u/Minute_Ice_7434 [link] [comments]

It's the same thinking that has been used for centuries to justify racism and inequality. Whether it's said with good intentions or not, it still reinforces harmful stereotypes. Reading it just made me feel... uncomfortable and sad. I’ve spent years unlearning this kind of stuff. And seeing someone young, in 2025, with a global audience, casually saying this felt like a punch to the gut. You’d expect someone in his position to have at least some awareness of how wrong that is. I’m not trying to attack him, but this needs to be called out. Saying things like “Black people are naturally good at music” or “Asians are smarter” might sound like compliments, but they’re not. They reduce people to their race. They erase individuality. And they carry so much baggage, whether people realize it or not. What bothers me even more is how quiet everything has been. No real apology, no acknowledgment of how messed up that statement was. Just a vague explanation. That’s not enough. If idols are going to have global platforms, then companies need to educate them properly. Not just on how to avoid scandals, but on why these kinds of ideas are so harmful in the first place. I really hope Junhan takes the time to understand why what he said was wrong, and that this doesn’t just get swept under the rug. I found a good third party site that actually does a proper job compiling every new release by artists I follow, unlike anything Spotify seems to bother doing themselves. Except old Twice songs seem to be rereleased on random compilations every other week! "Vatertag Sommerhits" "Platinum Pop" "GO WITH THE FLOW - Pop" "Summer 2025 - 100 Top Songs" "Some Great Pop" "Fresh Out" "Kesä 2025" "pop pulse deluxe" And on and on and on. So frustrating. Aespa aren't quite as bad but they seem to have a bit of this too, from the groups I've added so far. I hope this doesnt get reported. Ik katseye is popular but their traction on twitter is crazy. I saw some people saying its hybe payola but I think it's stupid that hybe would waste money on twt likes. The same goes for tintok too tbh they get crazy views and likes despite having only 7M followere compared to some groups with like 20M followers. I love Illit with all my heart, and they are my favorite 5th generation group. However, something that bothers me, and I apologize if my assumption is incorrect, is that there were supposed to be six members. I am not sure why Youngseo left, and I don't want to speculate, but if her departure was unrelated to the concept or had nothing to do with HYBE (perhaps her heart just wasn't in it), I find it unfair to the other contestants on the show. As I mentioned, there were supposed to be six, and one of them could have been the sixth member. Every time a company reveals someone below 18 or 19 (if you're referring to Korea's definition of a minor since 18 is still a minor in Korea), people would criticise the company for allowing a child to debut and criticise the people who support underage trainees/idols. K-pop isn't the only industry that debuts minors. Child stars all around the world also exist. The entertainment industry has always debuted minors for a long time, and K-pop is no exception either. BoA, Sohyun (ex 4MINUTE), Suzy (ex Miss A), Jiyoung (KARA), Taemin (SHINee), Jisung (NCT), Jongseob (P1Harmony), Leeseo (IVE), Jiheon (fromis_9), Ni-ki (ENHYPEN), Junghwan (Treasure), Kyujin (NMIXX), and Suhyun (AKMU) are examples of idols who debuted as minors. Instead of raising the age limit to 18 or 19, we should protect underage celebrities from online harassment, sasaengs, and physical harm instead of banning minors from debuting. If you want a safe world for minors, we should stop cyberbullying them, stalking them, and hurting them physically. People are hypocrites, they say they want to shield minors from haters, stalkers, and bad people in general, but at the same time, they also do awful things to underage celebrities. If you think boycotting groups with minors is going to stop minors in K-pop from debuting, then you're wrong. No matter how much you try, it won't work. Companies dgaf whatever you say to them. Every entertainment company, including K-pop companies, would always debut minors 95% all the time. HYBE, SM, JYP, YG, and other companies also do it.
