SM has released a statement regarding the situation. They said, “In addition, the issue of participating in team activities has caused a great breakdown in trust between the two sides through an excessive number of disputes, and the damage caused to EXO as a team and the wounds inflicted on fans and members have been great, so it is natural that the three sides should first make sincere efforts to implement the existing agreement and restore trust.” Thoughts? submitted by /u/Daddy1007a [link] [comments]

252. Do you think there are any downsides to having foreign Asian members in K-pop groups?

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm still quite surprised whenever I see some labels debut groups without any foreign Asian members. Having a Japanese, Thai, or Chinese(though Chinese member can be a bit more complicated) member gives an automatic gateway into those markets and a huge boost in fandom size, offering so many advantages. Not that there's anything wrong with having a full Korean team, it's actually more welcomed domestically. But a group made up entirely of Korean members has to work significantly harder to break into those markets compared to groups with multiple foreign members. That’s why I was particularly surprised to see a group like KiiiKiii debut with an all-Korean lineup, especially considering their sister group has a Japanese member who is most popular outside of Wonyoung and Yujin. Do you think it's necessary to add foreign member(s) in a group or is it not that important? submitted by /u/Organic-Cranberry955 [link] [comments]

254. Does SM just give up on their groups?

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm not too familiar with SM and their inner workings but looking from the outside in, it just always felt like SM gives up on their groups at a specific point in their careers. It just feels like once a successful group hits their peak or becomes stagnant as in they can't get any more famous or successful, SM just drops them and moves on to the next thing. They just stop caring to pour into them. They stop trying. Comebacks become less. Less fan events. Less appearances in public in general. Then suddenly, they're debuting a new group and the cycle repeats. It just sucks because the groups never officially disband so fans are left with nothing but hope. Hope their group will have a comeback. Hope their group will do something. submitted by /u/cocochanelism [link] [comments]

256. All41 - does anyone know anything about them?

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The music is great and they are quite prolific, but there is very little about them in SM and I am not sure how much of the information is fabricated. There are very few videos which look AI manipulated or produced. Until now I just could find the given names of the four members, the producer behind Kai Label Music (who is said to be Japanese) and that it is a "digital Kpop group). 259. I fumbled a selfie with Yoon from StayC

  • reddit.com language

So I went to see Stayc in concert last week in concert. During the final songs the members were walking up and down the aisle. I was lucky enough to be in aisle seat so I instantly pull out my phone, put on the face camera to record as I see them walking down my aisle. Yoon walks by stops for a second, looks at the camera and gives a piece sign. I'm all excited jumping up and down like I JUST GOT A SELFIE LETS GOOOO. ONLY TO REALIZE I WASNT RECORDING THE WHOLE TIME!!! Ahhh the realization after hit me so hard I felt like tearing up, but I was still excited just the fact she walked by me. Then 2 other members walked by but they didn't bother looking at the camera and they are so short too they were barely in frame too. But the selfie with Yoon was so good and I hate myself that get any of it when I HAD IT!!! I have been trying to cope so hard since last week on how I can make such a mistake. I found just 1 video of that part online buts it's from the balcony and it's only from behind. I have given up trying to find other angles. Anyone else have a similar story? I can't be alone in this, this haunting my soul and it will continue to happen forever 😭😭 submitted by /u/Separate_Ad1156 [link] [comments]

262. Annie Moon replacing Yoon-ah in the MBC Gayo Daejejeon is pure Nepotism.

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Some time ago Yoon-ah from the legendary Girl's generation annonces that she will no longer be animating MBC Gayo Daejejeon show. So they basically needed someone to replace her, And here is the problem. They choose Annie Moon.. For those who are not familiar with Annie Moon she's a membre of All-day project a group under THE BLACK LABEL and also happens to be the grandchild of Samsung owner. The producers justified their choice by saying that they wanted a face that people are familiar with and a big name and big popularity in the new gen, I don't mind putting new faces from the 4th/5th gen it's abviously a good idea, but Annie ? What did she accomplish to be almong big names of the 4th/5th gen ? For me it's clear nepotism and abuse of statue, when you have big names in Korea like Woonyoung, Karina, Yujin.. idols that really made a name for themselves in the industry. submitted by /u/PhilosopherIll4453 [link] [comments]

263. Idols simply need better contracts and safeguarding

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

First of all let me be completely honest and say I honestly struggle to side with the company ever, so this post might be biased in that sense. Bu seeing some of the backlash EXO CBX has gotten has made me think of other recent lawsuits in kpop (eg. Fifty Fifty, NewJeans) or even just threatened legal action (Bom). It seems like generally speaking there have been a few cases one after the other where the idols accusations don’t hold up in court (I know some of these legal procedures are still ongoing), yet mediations fail and the idols continue to stick to their plan, even when it seems to not be working. There have also been a few recent cases of poaching. Now, to me this is less of a sign of idols being greedy, as some put it, and really just shows a dangerous pattern of idols either 1) being willing to give up a big part of their careers and profits to be able to leave a company 2) seemingly being vulnerable to terrible legal counsel and surrounded by people who do not have their best interests at heart. Regardless of what it is, and I think it's both, I find it worrying. In pretty much none of the cases I have cited did the idols involved in the lawsuit gain anything at all. Above all, to me that means that their careers put them in vulnerable positions that people easily can take advantage of. Let's also remember idols are not recognised as workers and lack labour protections. I think it's safe to assume that idols get thrown extremely young into environments that I am sure are full of opportunists. It’s easy to say we are talking about adults, that they should be smarter, that but what does that mean when you have not grown up in a normal environment with the right kind of support and safeguarding? I really don’t mean to baby idols or insult their intelligence, rather I just want to point out that the kpop industry doesn’t seem to offer them good contracts or good support systems at all. I always see many comments along the lines of "what did XYZ idol expect, they broke their contract, this is the law, now they have to pay". I understand that, but I also wish people would look at these lawsuits with more compassions towards the actual people involved rather than the corporations. These contracts are drafted by companies FOR the company, not for the idols. They are often binding for way too long and an idol's relationship with their company starts when they are underage, which I think makes subsequent renegotiations extremely fraught and challenging. The way I see it, there has to be some deep seated unhappiness and discomfort for any idol to try break their contract, or sue their employer, or whatever else. And I just find it sad to see so many of these cases not working out for them at all, because more often than not it’s career ending. To me, that’s a concerning pattern that says a lot more about the industry than it does about the idols, and just points to the fact that idols generally need better contracts, better safeguarding, better labour protection, better support systems. Does anyone else think the same? I just wish for everyone involved that these contracts were shorter and easier to break really... submitted by /u/tinuvhiel [link] [comments]

264. Korean Beauty Standards Have Gotten Weird?

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Does anyone else feel like Korean beauty standards have gotten weird? Hyperfixating on specific things like small midface, M shape lips, high cranial top, v line, elf ears.. I'm tired of seeing beautiful KPOP trainees getting unncessary plastic surgery like SMTR25 JJ to conform to these strict standards. I think its okay if an idol has 1 feature that doesn't fit exactly! Like I remember SM gave NCT Yuta a chin implant, SNSD Taeyeon had so much work done and I'm starting to see the adverse effects. Jang Wonyoung is 21 years old and already can see the side effects too... BTS is refreshing because not all of the members conform to the beauty standard and that's okay because each member had an important role. But when it comes to girl groups you can really see the misogyny in the industry. But it does bring up the uncomfortable conversation of should companies even let in trainees that don't fit the beauty standard...because KPOP stans are a bunch of hypocrites saying companies care too much about visual then say an idol has no star power. Because some idols are just naturally beautiful and fit the beauty standards. Should companies even let in trainees that don't and have them suffer through an incredibly visual industry and be forced to get plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures. Not only that, but face online criticism and saying the person ruins the group for their visual. I can tell if a group will be successful or not just based on 5 things: 1) Group name 2) Visual harmony 3) Immersive performers *4) Can sing and/or rap well (for longevity this matters) 5) Likeable attitude and personality. That is literally it, the music could suck and it wouldn't matter. And the visuals also have to be distinctive, like 1 wasian, 1 bunny type, 1 cat type, you get the idea lol the visuals can't overlap. submitted by /u/Key-Performer8496 [link] [comments]
