Might be controversial but some of the comments in their live are so unnecessary. Xlov had a live for Hyuns birthday the other day and the comments were terrible. It was just creepy ones fetishizing the members telling them to twerk and kiss each other. I think groups should do their lives on twitch or discord so they can have moderators to avoid all this creepy stuff. This is particularly noticeable in K-pop due to Stan Twitter's visibility. However, this phenomenon exists across countries and genres. For example, the partners of Justin Bieber, One Direction members, and the Magcon boys have all received intense hate. When a female idol dates a man, the backlash typically comes from male fans and is directed at her. When a male idol dates a woman, the hate is often directed at his partner, usually by his younger female fans or random people hopping on the hate train. It's this second scenario that I'm curious about. What drives this behavior? To be clear, I’m not trying to criticize all young women who stan boy groups, there’s already too much of that. Even those who get caught up in these hate trains are likely children. They’re sold the fantasy of a boyfriend at an impressionable age by corporations trying to milk them. The onus is on the corporation not the idol or the fan who are both likely incredibly young. What drives the hatred towards the partner is what confuses me? In a recent interview with Etalk, Stray Kids’ performance at Roger’s Stadium in Toronto, Canada (Reynolds’ home country) was discussed because they gave him a shout out during their show. Ryan mentioned that all the members were actually in the movie at one point but due to scheduling, it never happened. This was already posted a few months ago after a press conference, but Ryan just recently said it again live during this interview in Canada. It’s really such a bummer and a huge missed opportunity for skz. I have several issues with JYPE’s management of Stray Kids, but considering how busy their schedule was during that period of the year, I don’t see how they would’ve been able to make time for it. I was scrolling through TikTok and came across this clip of Tarzzan reciting lyrics to Playboi Carti's LIKE WEEZY. The thing is, the actual lyrics don’t include the N-word. But in the clip, it sounds like Tarzzan might have replaced the word “boy” with it. If that’s really what happened, it makes the whole thing even more weird and uncomfortable. It’s one thing to quote a song, but throwing in a word that wasn’t even there? That’s a choice. If you pay attention to HYBE’s kpop tours, there’s very clear patterns: Their tours are lately generally 6 months or less in terms of tour length. Definitely tours lately don’t last a year. Enhypen’s Walk The Line is an exception and Coachella probably played a role since they couldn’t tour the US until after. Key markets for touring are Korea, Japan, US, and South Asia. Europe seems to be getting some love as TXT and Enhypen are going. Mexico is also getting love from J-Hope and LSFM. But both aren’t consistent enough yet to be key markets. Short notice timing prior to US tour dates happening. I think generally they’re the worse among the big 4 for notice timing for their major/group tours. They give max 3-4 months generally but even as little as 2 months as they are doing for TXT and Seventeen. Now this is all relevant as it heavily affects tour planning. Clearly HYBE wants annual tours as seen with TXT and Enhypen who have been on tour since 2022. I think partially due to BTS enlisting so they needed to do everything to ensure their financials weren’t heavily impacted from their biggest revenue driver being gone. If you have to tour every year and also do a ton of new albums and other activities then you don’t have time to do extensive tours hence why HYBE tours usually just hit the same key markets because they don’t have time to go everywhere. I’ve seen a lot of people talk about how other kpop groups go to other countries that HYBE groups don’t so they have “no excuse”. Well there’s different business strategies and expectations. If HYBE groups don’t have a lot of touring time, obviously they’re going to prioritize their key markets. For example, JYPE might be ok touring everywhere as they want to reach all possible plans but that doesn’t make it a key goal for HYBE. Let’s makeup numbers and say an arena show in Europe makes like 2M euros on average (again fake numbers just to prove a point). JYPE might be completely fine with this but it might not be financially enough for HYBE for whatever reason. I get HYBE is made up of different independent labels but financial planning is consolidated at the parent level and is reported that way. They are definitely given guidance towards financial goals and have to act accordingly with those. The short notice when it comes to US/western tour dates is most likely due to the short tour length so once Korea concerts happen, very soon they have to tour other places immediately. They won’t announce any tour dates until Seoul is announced which is only 1-2 months prior to the concert happening. This becomes a problem if the US is right after Seoul because they won’t have a lot of notice time. That’s what’s happening with TXT and SVT. People say US venues are booked possibly a year in advance. It’s absolutely nuts to have these venues booked for so long but give so little notice because they don’t announce tours far in advance. I wonder if it would be better off to announce tours prior to new albums even being announced. Such as ATEEZ and Blackpink did. This way it gives fans in general more notice. Anyways I’m not a fan of how HYBE conducts their tours but just wanted to make this post so fans were aware of their trends and plan accordingly.
