Sorry I've been watching old Produce 101 clips and I feel sad. I.O.I. was only around for less than a year and disbanded almost eight years ago but god I miss them. They never had the chance later Produce groups got to establish themselves, they barely even had a chance to promote with all members present, but they were still such an unbelievable group. Their lineup had it all - talent, visuals, personality - and I truly believe if they were a permanent group they would have been one of the greats. It pains me to see them slowly be forgotten and I can't help but think about what it would have been like if they got the same kind of time and quality songs that the later Produce groups had. They could have been so much more. submitted by /u/Nixon4Prez [link] [comments]

From when I first got into kpop 7 years ago to now, I’ve refrained from commented/posting really anything about it just because I don’t care to. But I was recently watching a video called Music Criticism is Dead and it really encouraged me to say my opinions on a song or album from the artists I like. If everyone forces themselves to like their fav artist’s music and only say good things about it even if they don’t actually like it, the music may never pivot back to something that’s good and only continue to get worse and worse. If you kindly and maturely give areas you liked about it and areas you think it could’ve been better, there’s a chance the company/artists will see that and make a change! It doesn’t have to be mean, it doesn’t have to mean your favorite artist sucks, things can be nuanced it doesn’t have to be either the best thing ever made or the worst garbage on planet earth. And you can express these opinions maturely. Of course these are obvious basic things but I never really thought about it so I just wanted to encourage everyone to comment their true feelings about their favorite artists rather than pretending to like it to support them. You’re not truly supporting them if you’re lying or forcing yourself to like the music. If you love something, you only want it to get better. I really want to encourage people to not just comment “this sucks” or “NUMBER ONE VISUAL IN KPOP” under music videos but maybe give thoughtful comments on the music. submitted by /u/anonymous_human174 [link] [comments]

back in 2023, my friend and i went to see blackpink on tour. at the time, i honestly had only really been familiar with bts and blackpink, i wasn’t really a serious “kpop stan” back then i was more so just an army. she asked me if i wanted to go to the concert with her because she’s a big music fan and goes to at least one concert per year. blackpink was the first concert i had ever been to. the concert also just so happened to be three days after my birthday, so it was also partially like a birthday gift to myself to get to go. everything was going great, we arrived at the stadium two hours before the show, we took pictures in and around the stadium, etc… then on one of the jumbotrons, there were previews and ads being projected. an ad with 7 men popped up and from a far distance, i wasn’t even thinking, i was just so excited to be at the concert to begin with, and i blurted out loud, “is that BTS???!!!” my friend turned to me and said with annoyance “that’s enhypen…” and i absolutely shrunk. i know there were multiple people around us that heard my comment and probably had all types of thoughts, giving a harsh side eye. outside of that the concert was amazing and the vibes were great, i know anyone who was sitting around us probably forgot about my comment shortly after the show started. but still, that moment made me feel like i didn’t deserve to be there after that. now, as a more generalized kpop fan, i still look back on that moment and cringe. and my friend and i haven’t really hung out again since that concert, but idk if truly the reason why or not. in the present, i understand the differences between labels, and that a bts(hybe) billboard would probably never appear at a blackpink(yg) concert in the first place, but back then i didn’t really understand all the intricacies. i just knew that BTS and BLACKPINK were the two biggest K-pop groups in America, so i thought “why wouldn’t a BTS billboard be at a BLACKPINK concert in America?” i guess… i was also looking at the billboard from afar, if i would’ve looked for five seconds longer, i probably would’ve realized it wasn’t BTS, but i just glanced at it and was super excited in the moment. sometimes i wonder if my friend was so embarrassed to be seen with me at that concert after i made that comment that she actually disowned me, or she felt like i wasn’t a real enough k-pop fan and stopped associating with me because i embarrassed her. honestly, i wouldn’t have called myself a real kpop fan until the end of 2023 because that’s when I allowed myself to start listening to more groups than just the really big ones (BTS/BP) but it’s also kind of frustrating because it seems like so many people already knew about other groups like stray kids, TXT, ateez, etc either pre debut or they just seemingly appear to have a huge fanbase out of no where. like, prior to two years ago, i wouldn’t have known any of these groups. but i fell in love with bts during the pandemic, and i really only engrossed myself in their music up until they went into the military, and there wasn’t as much new content to consume. and I feel like the K-pop community is split in half, half K-pop stands only stan one group and act like you’re a traitor if you begin to show support for any other groups, and then there’s the other half of stans that enjoy listening to any and all groups as long as they like the music. in the beginning for me it was hard to get into other groups because i feel like i need to know everything about all the members and their entire discography before i can call myself a real fan. also toxic armies online made me feel like i’d be a traitor for streaming other kpop, and during such an isolating time like the pandemic, that felt very true. but when most of these groups are more than five years old, and already have 10+ albums and eps, it’s just too much and i’m kinda overwhelmed with content. idk sometimes i just wonder if the negative reaction i got was deserved, because i definitely felt stupid at the concert, but sometimes i wish more k-pop fans were a bit more understanding and willing to share information rather than just look down on you because you didn’t know… submitted by /u/HelpDazzling7577 [link] [comments]

Kian84 - (webtoon artist turned variety star) sort of did a ride along with "Say My Name" - I didnt realize how exhausting promotions are. Unfortunately there are no english subs but its sort of structured like a day in the life so you can follow along. I can sort of get why some idols can get pissed, hell I dont know how they find it in themselves to try to be cheerful. Day starts 3 am, they travel to the studio, hair and makeup takes an hour or so - then they do rehearsals and do the final shot. all through that, they wear skimpy outfits and when not on call they wrap up because I dont think they heat those waiting rooms. after filming they do a fanmeet outside, then do individual schedules. then late in the afternoon, they have fansigns. to top it off, their day doesnt end there, they have practice in the evening. You really have to want this life. you can watch it here; https://youtu.be/G0sOX1ZgCR0 submitted by /u/citizend13 [link] [comments]

ive seen so much discourse on every platform possible from twt to youtube creators making videos to tik tok to reddit to fan platforms to instagram and i cant simply say this nuanced opinion in the comments of every single discourse kpop stans have so im leaving it here. its just my thoughts on any and all collab controversy's in and outside of kpop. okay so its one thing if some fans decide to not tune into a collab if one were to appear due to your PERSONAL feelings about a artist but if we're being real there is not a western artist or artist on this planet COMPLETELY clean from any problematic behavior. i think its WRONG to use the the 'friends you keep' or 'the people you surround yourself with' 'birds of a feather' etc for celebrities at all because in one way or another every single one has said or done something to different degrees of "wrong" in the publics eyes. Not excusing any allegations just being honest. example you can point out something wrong with every top A list B list C list D list celeb etc anywhere where they did something wrong. Imo its different for american artists with korean stars yes maybe people should do their research but should that be globally expected? if a random american celeb who has a "pure" image collabs with a random asian artist who has been problematic in the past will that american celeb know and will people expect them to know? im saying this because every time a kpop idol/group collabs with someone who said xyz, did xyz, supports xyz theres this expectation that the pr team and idols themselves should have known about it before accepting to work or become friends with the western artist. is that fair? because we dont see the opposite happen so why is it so important for idols to do this but not anyone else? random example dont attack me cause i dont mean disrespect to these artists i like both actually just not a huge stan. theyre just examples. megan and twice collab. megan said racial slurs about asians in the past should twice have known? some/one of the twice members said the n word or wore a offensive shirt should megan have known? or did they just collab and move on? why is it so different in general for some kpop idols and not others or only kpop idols but not american/western artists? its very pick and choose and makes the discourses lose weight because youre supposed to keep the same energy regardless of genre, nation, label, boy group, girl group, how famous someone is, and how "bad" the controversy way. do i have my own bias not bias as in kpop but bias as in some celebs i hope xyz or others never work with sure i do. Like i never want them to work with chris brown or mention diddy or r kelly. But again it all comes down to personal feelings not an overall demand because its NOT realistic for every fan of any artist to demand dont work with xyz because theyd work with NO ONE. people can and will apply that to your faves too. im sure chris brown fans would look at me crazy for having that as my own "dont work with this celeb please" and im sure some black people would say to megan or latto or some other black artist "dont work with kpop groups theyre racist" its all valid to a point but at the end of the day the celebs will do what they want regardless. its up to fans to choose when they need to unstan and what they can tolerate. but make no mistake you WONT make them go broke you WONT make the entire fandom unstan & agree with your pov no matter the colorful words you use be it "spineless", "moral less", "lack of empathy", "parasocial", "over kpop" etc and you WONT control what they the artists do. youre a fan only at the end of the day not their manager, keeper, family, friend etc this is where parasocial comes in and people use this wrong too because they think "if i call out my fave im not parasocial im holding them accountable" NO youre just as much parasocial as the ones who ignore things you can NOT hold STRANGERS accountable or expect them to hold your morals and beliefs nor can you force anyone to do anything. the very thought process of "if i call this person out theyll listen and learn and i can go back to stanning in peace" is parasocial at the core the same way people who defend everything are also parasocial to the core. not being parasocial are those who unstan and leave the space forget the celeb exists or casually listen to music but have no care about what they do in their personal lives and just skip projects they dont want to support and if it bothers them too much to just stop listening to the artist all together. theres soooo many celebs out there we dont know or care about either for 2 reasons. 1 we know about them and dont like them so we ignore them or 2 we never heard of them yet and are someone to potentially stan or once you do investigate then theyll be someone to ignore as well. anyonce who cares enough to stay a stan and defend or stay and attempt to call out are both equally parasocial and need to reevaluate how they consume entertainment in general. because NEITHER is healthy. youre not a better fan in either situation. its simply obsession and being parasocial. submitted by /u/Additional_Cat6640 [link] [comments]

Ingyoo Kim is a very talented dancer but the fandom right now agrees its very DK coded and we likely would of gotten a "Hello, this is pledis entertainment" post about scoups I even saw someone say that Mingyu would think he is being ranked again and I understand how he would think he is being pranked too submitted by /u/sunshineofkindness [link] [comments]
I encountered some fans who hate on idols for being boring or lacking talent and would make a lot of nasty comments/snarky remarks and be really mean. These fans have no issues issues with idols who are problematic or exhibit problematic/ toxic behavior. When pointed out, they actually said being problematic is better than lacking talent Fan: lol yeah they are problematic. At least they are not a boring useless dozen. Dozen shouldn’t be in the group. What does that say when fans respect a problematic idol more than a “boring” one? submitted by /u/taejinkook28 [link] [comments]
hello there! im here to talk about something that had happened to my cousin after a bit. and first of all, i know someone else had made a similar post on stealing from albums, which that is when i had the courage to actually tell this to people. Heres what happened. Me and my cousin were going to buy albums with eachother, and we were planning to get aespa albums. Me getting drama, her getting armageddon. We were so excited, we opened the albums in the car. When i opened mine, i got my bias and everything that was supposed to be in the album. My cousin though? stolen photocards. She didnt get ANY photocards. Only a poster and the rest of the stuff. I felt horrible for her, and i didnt want to see her sad like that, so i gave her the photocard i got from the drama album. So, heres what im trying to say: Stop stealing from albums if you wanna try and support the creator, because you ARENT supporting them. And if your stealing them only for the photocards, just think about how you would react if you went home, happy as heck to get some new photocards and an album, but when you open it theres no photocards. Now, another thing i wanna say is that do you really think packing the albums in a plastic cover is a good idea? Its really easy to steal from those. Why dont you put them behind glass or something, like they do with gaming items and stuff. Now im too scared to buy- or even order an album. Thanks a lot stealers. Thanks. submitted by /u/Hot-Sleep8577 [link] [comments]
