When I first started getting into KPOP I fell in love with these fun stages. I thought it would be a given for EVERY comeback. To my disappointment, I see NOTHING. What happened?! Shout out to some of my favorites in no particular order: 1) Twice LIKEY Switch version (Poor JY crashing into DY haha) 2) ITZY WANNABE Switch version (Yuna was dying to do this part) and NOT SHY (Itzy you machine and Lia you amazing human you) 3) IM SO HOT by Twice and Blackpink (Extra because it is a fan meet not a special stage: ITZY) 4) IZONE Princess Performance if SSOTS (Hitomi Elsa!) and Twice's M&M Snow White Performance (Momo and Nayone are ADORABLE DORKS) 5) ATEEZ Halloween Performance, ITZY's WANNABE Halloween ver. (Strawberry Lia. Enough said), Aespa's stage (with alita battle angel...no longer can find) What are your favorite stages? submitted by /u/PoyuPoyuTetris [link] [comments]
I cannot begin to describe just how proud of them I am! What a wonderful opportunity to help others for a group that has offered solace to millions of youths across the world. Heres their mission statement with UNICEF: "Under the theme ‘together for tomorrow’, tomorrow x together will mobilise its growing global fanbase to promote open conversations on mental health and support young people to feel confident to speak up, access support, and build the social and emotional skills they need to thrive. through the partnership, tomorrow x together and bighit music will contribute us $1.4 million to unicef over the next two years, with plans to raise additional funds through fan engagement and other activities. the funding will support a range of mental health programmes and advocacy, including efforts to provide children, adolescents, and caregivers with practical, relatable ways to protect and care for their mental health. it will also support activities such as training for professionals working with young people and research to fill gaps in available mental health data." Full translation : "Bang Si-hyuk, HYBE chairman, has been placed under a travel ban amid suspicions of improper transactions amounting to about 190 billion won. According to MBN’s investigation, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Financial Crimes Investigation Unit imposed the travel ban on Chairman Bang on charges of violating the Capital Markets Act. The travel ban is reported to have been issued on September 11, when Bang returned to Korea. Bang is under police investigation on allegations that, back in 2019, he misled investors into believing HYBE had no plans to go public, and then sold shares to a private equity fund set up by former HYBE executives, thereby reaping about 190 billion won in illicit gains. Police have already summoned Chairman Bang twice for questioning." https://n.news.naver.com/mnews/article/057/0001911395?sid=102 submitted by /u/redubellbet [link] [comments]

i really feel like visuals are straight up overshadowing talent in kpop right now. like yeah, looks have always mattered — even back in 2nd gen ppl called idols the ‘visuals’ of the group — but those idols still had to actually perform. now it’s like companies care more about how viral/marketable someone looks than whether they can sing, rap, or dance. you can literally see it in how some groups are set up. usually 1 or 2 members are carrying the whole performance vocally and even stage presence-wise, while the rest are mostly just… there for aesthetic. it’s not even subtle. and i’m not blaming the idols bc it’s not their fault, it’s how they’re cast and pushed. what’s worse is how fans feed into it. ppl hype idols for just standing there and looking good, while ignoring the ones actually killing it on stage or vocally. the fanwars over ‘who’s prettier’ vs ‘who’s more talented’ just prove how much the industry pushes this cycle. meanwhile, insanely skilled idols who don’t fit certain beauty standards get pushed to the background no matter how much they deliver. Now the bar feels like just being photogenic enough to sell posters and brand deals. nothing wrong with being gorgeous, but when it overshadows actual artistry, the music and performances suffer. that’s why 2nd gen and even early 3rd gen felt different. idols back then had to prove themselves vocally and on stage, not just look good in fancams. now you see idols who can’t even sing live properly or look bored on stage, but they still trend just for their visuals. makes me wonder where kpop is going — is it about image more than the music now? submitted by /u/No-Metal8032 [link] [comments]
Ok, so I was a 3rd gen kpop fan in 2016-2019 and 2023. I started paying attention again because Sangwon (ALD1) came back to participate in Boys 2 Planet. I’ve noticed a number of changes to both the industry and to the fandoms 1: Overt 1st and 2nd gen style yaoi and girlfriend style fanservice returning to 5th gen 2: ships and yaoi being a core part of fandom, not in the shadows of wattpad, mentioned occasionally I notice fans criticizing fans who are participating in the culture. As a 3rd gen Stan I’m even shocked at how far these idols are pushing the boundaries. At the end of the day it’s marketing and parasocialism bait. It’s so shocking when you’re not used to it. Rather than blaming the company for making the idols participate. Fans are blaming…other fans for participating with the idols are the company is intending people to interact with the product. Idk but it’s not making some of you look as evolved and cool as you think it does. It’s understandable and rather than me thinking there’s a problem it just gets repetitive. The industry is selling a product, people are buying into it and you don’t get a gold medal for not, nor are people weird for what is very over and intentional fanservice. Idk it just seems silly to me, but I have missed much of the evolution so I don’t know how we got here. submitted by /u/honeybadgerlanhua [link] [comments]
