For context, the girls have been hinting at something dropping tonight, and I'm so excited for it. They dropped the album teaser a few weeks ago, and they've been very quiet since. That was understandable because it was election season and their concept seems blue this time, but that wait only meant I'm so antsy now lol. It's been such a queit year for them relatively, so having them back has been such a relief to me. SM's first boy group, H.O.T., debuted in 1996. H.O.T. is not the first K-pop group but they're the first to revolutionize idol culture in K-pop. The oldest was 18y and the youngest was 16y. 19 is considered the age of majority/the adult age in Korea, so all of them were minors. When S.E.S. debuted, all of them were considered minors internationally and in Korea. BoA, TVXQ, SNSD, SHINee, NCT DREAM, and H2H were all minors at debut. None of these people were 19y or older. Like how can you possibly feel an emotional connection to someone you've never personally interacted with irl? Yet so many people claim to feel a connection to some idols. There are brief moments here and there I feel like I could identify with an idol based on ways they've acted here and there especially if I've been on a "journey" with them since predebut watching them go through thick and thin to achieve their dreams. But once the reality of me having never met this person hits, I feel so weird for having immersed myself so much, no matter how much these idols/groups say they do everything for their fans and "the fans give us strength and made our journey possible" and this and that... I wasn't a fan of ILLIT until last month. Something about their dreamcore and cute aesthetic drew me in. I grew up watching Winx Club and Disney Princesses and have always loved all things girly, so their style resonated with me. Their little monster MV/brand film is one of the best MVs I've ever seen this year, the creative direction is phenomenal. I cherish how it blends the weird, eerie, and cute vibes in one MV. The message in the MV is heartwarming. The "little monsters" scare us but instead of being scared, they turn the fear into strength by eating the monsters (fears). I checked out H2H's accounts and I noticed that Ye-on resembles Ryo from NCT WISH. Ye-on looks like Ryo with a long hair wig honestly. Ryo is also known for looking like Renjun. People have been saying that Sion from NCT WISH has a similar appearance to Jaehyun. A few SM idols/trainees have visuals that are reminiscent of Jaejoong in my opinion, namely Taeyong, Sungchan, and SMTR25's Kassho. When Kassho was in LASTART (the survival show that formed NCT WISH), I didn't think he reminded me of anyone but after SM introduced him as a SMTR25 member, he gives me Jaejoong, Taeyong, and Sungchan vibes. Giselle bears a striking similarity to Sunday from CSJH. When I watched CSJH's My Everything MV, I mistook Sunday for Giselle but the MV came out in 2006. More examples of SM idols looking like each other: - Woohyuk from H.O.T. and Eunhyuk from SuJu - Jonghyun from SHINee and Xiaojun from WayV - Donghae from SuJu and Jeno from NCT DREAM Out of all companies, SM idols/trainees are the hardest to tell apart because most of them look so similar and could be mistaken for being siblings. I think most of their idols don't have individual/unique beauty due to them looking so alike. I can't tell Aespa apart nowadays because they look similar in most photos.
