I’ve always had a problem with social media. I was constantly exposed to a lot of toxicity, like fanwars and other bad stuff. At some point, I realized it was making me feel really bad, so I decided to take a break. I started with Twitter: I deleted my main account that I used for 2 years and kept only one account that was more chill, then I did the same with TikTok, and I started using that time to watch shows, draw, and listen to music. This helped since I’m exposed to much less negativity. At the same time, though, I’ve inevitably stopped keeping up with my favs, and that makes me a little sad. I know if I went back to my old routine, I’d get stressed again, I’ve always been very active in fandom spaces, constantly following updates, and now not doing that feels strange honestly. I know rationally it’s not necessary to know everything, but after being used to it for so long, it just feels weird, I feel like I’m kinda disconnected. I don’t know if this is normal or if this feeling will pass. I wouldn’t say my anxiety is gone, since it goes far beyond social media and I still have work to do on it, but for now the situation it’s strange but okay. I’ve been a kpop stan for quite a while. I love kpop, but lately it feels like it’s brought me more negative experiences than positive ones. Maybe the best way to enjoy it would be to stay away from fandom spaces and just be a listener, even if that means missing out on many things about my favs. submitted by /u/ForceApprehensive597 [link] [comments]
I'm not going to pretend like Kpop subreddits have always been some holy place that's unbiased. Before there was definitely SM bias, groups such as EXO, Shinee, Red Velvet, SNSD tended to garner positive comments and be more resistant to criticism while some other SM groups like NCT and aespa were always up for grabs as they were seen as the "noisy" stain in SM's history. Stray Kids, Enhypen, Blackpink, etc have always been unwelcome. And girl groups tended to have hate trains over boy groups. However, in recent times it's become stifling. I'd say around the time that NewJeans' lawsuit dropped. There's been an influx of brigading, people following you around other subs just to downvote you, and while you've always had to have some level of respect towards others, you now have to abide by unspoken rules on who can be constructively criticized and who you can only post glowing reviews about. It feels like getting policed by someone breathing in your ear. And I'm not going to sidestep the elephant in the room. Yes, BTS is incredibly criticized and oftentimes it can be incredibly unfair to them. I've defended them at times myself. Bodyshaming, blaming them for world politics, blaming them for every ice cream a child has dropped, etc. It's clear they're held to another standard than other groups. But people can't have a level-headed discussion on something negative about them without getting 6 Army actually harassing them. Or discuss that their fandom has done inappropriate things like stalking people, harassing idols, brigading and gaslighting people who speak out. So much so that a decent amount of a people feel silenced. They can't talk without their posts getting mass reported because there is no middle ground where yeah, BTS can be well-meaning guys who've helped take Kpop to another level but have had human mistakes and while most of their fans are quite lovely (genuinely, some of the most generous kpop fans I've met were Army), the minority of them are... simply hard to deal with. And I don't think that's a hot take. I ult aespa, they can make boneheaded decisions and I'll be the first to say MYs are amongst the most insufferable haters of kpop. A lot of subreddits have become Hybe group focused including the most popular one, the so-called "uncensored" subreddit. Where negative posts about BTS disappear, groups "competing" with Hybe groups freely get hate, etc. I find it incredibly hilarious that it's been 24 hours since my post that's about defending aespa against a hate train is still under moderator approval for the "uncensored" subreddit. Mind you, I criticize aespa myself in it, it's far from glowing praise for them. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule with the unofficial Hybe subs. Enhypen is free game. And you can criticize HYBE girl groups because quite honestly, a lot of them are treated as token girl groups where their achievements are celebrated but the second you criticize them and it leads to boy groups like TXT or BTS, that's when hell breaks loose. There is a reason why that Kpopthoughts post about being downvoted for talking about groups turned into a "that fandom who shall not be named makes it hard to talk freely" session. Funnily enough, since the change in dynamics, I feel like people have become more resentful from the policing that they in turn become more hateful towards HYBE groups when it's not their fault that their fandoms have taken over Kpop reddits. So the staunch defense for Hybe groups and free-for-all for other groups ends up with Hybe groups getting hated more. TL;DR: The "HYBE takeover" including their fandom's behavior has made free discussion harder. submitted by /u/Breezyrain [link] [comments]
All 7 stops sold out. And it’s unanimous among concert goers that LE SSERAFIM absolutely smashed it performance wise. Everyone was praising their performance and ability to connect with the crowd. Personally I attended one stop, and then because I was so impressed, I bought another ticket to another stop. Their CRAZY performance in LA went viral in Korea bc they were shocked how loud and how much the US fans knew of the entire song lyrics. Source Music have been very clever with building up LSF’s US presence. It started in Fall 2023 with their Blizzcon attendance and Overwatch collab, but they also had multiple collabs with popular YouTubers, Tiktokers (Ha sisters) ,Streamers (Offline TV). Not to mention, they also had a guest NBA Lakers game appearance and “friends of NBA” collab which spawned the era of the LSF basketball jerseys. Then their infamous Coachella appearance happened in 2024. Obviously it went viral for not so great reasons but they still got their eyes out to the public there. However, this also spawned the infamous flags as well. During Crazy era, their song also blew up thanks to it being used (as fanedit) in Marvel Rivals for Luna Snow’s ult. We also got c*nty Bob Chaewon. Then comes their sold out US tour. US open appearance, America’s Got Talent appearance, Dodgers game appearance, even more collabs galore. They’ve had amazing exposure. Yunjin is a native English speaker, understands GenZ culture and memes / slang, and is so good with her way of words. She was one of the key pieces of LSF’s US stops to being a smash hit. LSF’s music also isn’t bubble pop, which caters a bit more to US fans. I feel like there is so much exciting potential for LSF ahead in the US (and even international markets). Coachella may have seemed like a roadblock but it turned out to be a necessary stepping stone for them. I’m super proud of how far they’ve come and what more they have enabled to come. submitted by /u/KindredValiance [link] [comments]
aespa is arguably the top Korean girl group outside of Blackpink right now. And in classic Kpop hater fashion, there's definitely been a buildup of people trying to start a hate train for them: "aespa has a new face every comeback" I'm not going to say they're 100% natural, but they regularly go barefaced or minimal makeup and look pretty damn close to what they did years ago. Makeup and styling does a lot. But either way, Korea doesn't care if they're natural beauties anyways and hypes up their visuals on the regular so this isn't really working as much as people really wish it would. If their visuals were an actual problem, there wouldn't be companies debuting and promoting their visuals as "AI beauties". "Is Karina cancelled after her scandal?" There's two idols who lost a similar amount of Instagram followers as her throughout the same amount of time (April to this month) who haven't had a scandal but I won't name names since their fans would derail this post about aespa to fight each other. (1.4 million followers lost for idol 1, 1.3 million for Karina, and 1.2 million for idol 2 last I checked) In Korea, Karina's career hasn't slowed down; she still goes viral, still booked and busy, still selling out products, etc. And internationally, I have not seen a single big account or fansite close for her. Even the American accounts. "Dirty Work and Rich Man are the worst songs I've heard" Are the songs disappointing compared to their 2024 lineup? Yeah. Are they really awful songs? No, be honest, at worst they're cheesy/mid. We've all heard songs that are actually offensive to the ears to listen to. "aespa is flopping and might lose their crown" Top 10 in Korean charts, Billboard charting, album million sellers, selling out concert seats, etc. And they're so busy they even jokingly try to give their passports away to fans. Quite honestly, their "flopping" is better than most groups' peaks. People can't keep them out of their mouths even if it's to insult them. Korea is tuned in even though aespa only had one week of music show promotions before they flew out to America. "aespa sucks at performance and never sings live (after their GMA performance)" First of all, aespa has been getting hate for years about their dance skills and performance skills. At this point anyone with object permanence has simply acknowledged they were not built to be a performance group. If that was the goal, let's be for real, aespa would've had a stronger dance line and SM wouldn't have bothered having the rappers learn how to sing. But anyways, one of the main things I see is "Why don't they sing live? That'll make up for their dance skills." And then aespa does sing live and sounds like the CD, like at the TMAs, and y'all genuinely don't care. So it was never really about that. And it's extra clear on Korean forums where people try to bring up their "competitors" as great performers and how they've improved their vocals only to get called out by Koreans who know it's just mediaplay to dump on aespa and make other groups look better. I'm not saying people can't criticize aespa and mean it, but let's not play stupid. aespa got a brief pause from hate whenever other girl groups like IVE, Idle, and Newjeans were on top and now people are trying to start up again. Note: This post isn't in direct reaction to the one below it, the so-called "uncensored" subreddit has been holding this post hostage for 23 hours while allowing low effort posts to go through moderator approval. Another note: Please don't whack other groups, that's not the point of this. submitted by /u/Breezyrain [link] [comments]
these may seem like obvious things and yet sometimes it's made unfortunately clear to me that far too many ppl dOnt realise this or are incapable of understanding it lol first, i thought about this semi recently when ateez released lemon drop and i didnt really like it because it's so far from my usual taste and also im of the opinion that ateez shine best in their more intense and/or crazier sounding stuff like guerrilla and wake up but yk i just thought okay sure im a bit personally disappointed but it's chill, there is still a huge selection of their songs that i love and can listen to whenever i want lmao - it's literally that simple😭 now ive heard the new tws song snippet and i was sooo pleasantly surprised! i lOve them as a group but i just cant enjoy their music bc it's way too schoolboy happy clappy sunshine for me haha, so i was really shocked to hear such a new sound and vibe from them. safe to say, i wiLL be tuned into this release and I'll probably enjoy it. but ive seen people complaining that they don't want them to change up their style bc they like the happy clappy sound and not this other new vibe. and im just like🧍♀️ yall dO realise not every single release was made for you specifically to like😭 espEcially in kpop where new music comes out so frequently idk i guess i just dont really understand why ppl think that whatever they like/dislike is the only correct opinion, and why ppl expect to thoroughly enjoy each and every release from a group. as someone with ateez and stray kids as my top ults, there are pLenty of songs from both groups that i just dont enjoy, so i dont listen to them - that doesn't make me any less of a fan💀 different strokes for different folks :) submitted by /u/Important-Zombie9331 [link] [comments]

Just because a random person on the internet that is fan of another group, said something mean towards your favorite group, doesn't mean that you have to go on a hate campaign back and cry about it. As someone who stans multiple groups, some whose fandoms seem to hate each other, it is so tiring and sad. I hate my own fandom spaces. I hate the fans I am with. I just want to engage in fun, loving fan culture. I like people who draw fanart or make cute edits or videos, I wanna see the cute, funny moments compilations. A lot of you guys get super emotional over internet fanwars. Especially in the uncensored subreddit. Not every mean comment from another app has to be brought into discourse here - the response will always be the same... just read someone else "irrational mean comment" crashout. You guys are so immature... why? Are you all children? I doubt it... Back in 2019 it wasn't like this...? You could stan multiple groups and it would be chill, cool, encouraged. Now if I go to the subs for the groups I specifically like, even there are people who shit on other fandoms and groups. There is no good happy fanspaces anymore. Amino is dead. TikTok, Twitter, Instagram and I guess even Reddit are super toxic. Discord is positive but there is nothing going on there... Where can I go for online spaces? Or do I have to collect friends in real life and create a groupchat? I don't wanna guys I understand being emotional, but please direct your energy into something positive instead of negative. How about you hype your favourite up instead of tearing someone down? Or atleast have civil discourse. I know the world is crumbling and it's depressing. That's why we need each other, we need positive spaces to cope and/or dissociate from the horror of life. Please, hear me out... spread love guys TL;DR : Can we act like adults when we are adults? Can we be nice? Where are safe spaces? Your thoughts will become your words. Your words will become your actions. Your actions will become your life. Don't fall for ragebait, don't make others suffer with you... submitted by /u/cat_girl10 [link] [comments]
So I recently been discovering groups that aren’t considered mainstream or from the big 4 companies. LET ME JUST SAY ITS HONESTLY A CHEAT CODE TO GET THE DREAM KPOP FAN EXPERIENCE ON A BUDGET! My experience going to a seventeen concert was a bit overwhelming. There were long lines and you have to arrive hours just to even get a chance at merch and that’s not guaranteed you’ll get anything. Not to mention the cost of the ticket and merch literally is months of my paycheck just for a basic seat not including the few shirts I got. Everybody was rushing which means you yourself have to move fast. And the chaos around me worn me out. I loved the concert but the process of it all was draining for me. But I recently started stanning Oneus and went to their concert AND I GOT MY MONEYS WORTH! Not only I got a seat really close to the stage (well auditorium) but I was also able to afford the highest vip tier which included so much stuff (signed merch from all members, 1-on-1 photos, group photo of just me and the members, high touch, a lanyard, and merch line priority). All of this was less then my seventeen ticket. Not to mention because they had a smaller audience the members themselves walked down the aisle and were dancing with the fans(2 members were right beside me)! Their energy and hearing them live so close was such a surreal experience I thought I never truly get to experience such a concert since I used to only really listen to bts and seventeen. And did I mention the merch being affordable and available is a bonus?! I don’t have to stress fighting with people over them and not break my bank as badly compared to others. I hope Oneus gain popularity as they really deserve it, but a selfish part of me is loving not having to plan anything ahead. I just went to the counter, bought what I want, and enjoyed my show peacefully. ☺️ I loved it so much that I started looking into other groups and so much hidden gems are being over looked! There are many groups that have amazing artists but are buried under bigger groups due to lack of resource for exposure. I loved so many songs since I don’t really like the trend of mainstream at the moment. Not to mention it brings back the nostalgic memory of scrapping the web for videos with English subtitles and the happiness you feel when they finally upload a video after a while (if you were in 2nd gen kpop you know exactly what I mean 😂) If you are interested I say give it a shot. I think everybody should at least find one none mainstream group and get that Kpop concert experience you always dreamed. submitted by /u/Frosty-Honeydew- [link] [comments]
Just was interacting with another post here asking about what 1st gen and 2nd gen inactive idols do, it got me thinking that the majority of completely innactive idols are female idols and the reason why is clear. Idolhood, especially for women, is portrayed as this period in life that you eventually must leave to "settle down". It is possible that fans of current generations have not realized it yet, but it is. We expect mothers to not work high demand jobs, because we expect moms to be more present for their kids than fathers. On another side, so much of a female idols marketability is her desirebility and that is interwined with NOT being married or a mother (youth is a whole other factor) We look down upon a mother who may want to still be percieved as sexy and perform that way. The ones who are active are so because they transitioned into something else, musicals, acting but ironically, a lot to content that is about their kids. And I respect and enjoy those other artistic genres just as much, but we definetly have a pattern. So I was racking my brain to come up with a female idol who is just married (no kids) and still somewhat active as what we define as an idol, I could only come up with Hyuna. If anybody knows of someone I may be forgetting that still performs on stage, releases music etc, please let me know. And then for female idols that are mothers there isn't a single one. Sooyoung from SNSD has publicaly said that she hasn't gotten married to Jung Kyun Hoo, who she has dated for over a decade, because she thinks it will stunt her career growth or oppurtonities "I do think there is a limit on characters I can play after getting married" Here. She was specifically talking about acting here, but knowing she had always intended to find the way to do a solo I wouldn't be surprised if that factored in too. Soyul from Crayon Pop has also talked about feeling like she has no identity outside of being a wife or mother, and really missing performing. The closest we have gotten is the show My Mom is an idol, that was made to combat this problem, but once the promotions were over none of them actually re started their idols career. The producer of the show said that when Kahi was called she cried thanking them because she missed performing so much, and that she didn't care if they show wasn't successful all she wanted to do was be on stage. Although not super extensive (precisely because of that youth factor) we can come up with lists of male idols who are married and still work in releasing music and performing them, likewise with fathers. submitted by /u/Seohyun_tae [link] [comments]
for me, it's the oldies thinking that every kpop is either BTS or ENHYPEN(they are not pronouncing this right btw) submitted by /u/Fit-Entertainer9733 [link] [comments]
So this Korean youtuber, who basically had no subscribers before, uploaded a video about her experience at aespa’s recent kickoff concert in Korea. She seems like a big concert-goer who attends a wide range of shows, both kpop and non-kpop. She spent a surprising amount of time getting ready for the show, dressing in a futuristic look that perfectly matched aespa’s concept (she absolutely nailed it!) Honestly, I wish more people would show up to concerts with that kind of creativity. She also got to see Karina up close and praised her visuals, saying, “Out of everyone I’ve ever seen in person, she was the most unreal.” After she got home, she shared her honest thoughts on the concert. Long story short, she said she probably wouldn’t attend another aespa concert again. One of the main reasons was the excessive lipsyncing. As a casual listener, she was most excited for the big title tracks, but most of them were pushed toward the end of the show. The first hour and a half was filled mostly with b-sides, and a lot of them weren’t performed live. She said she ended up just staring at the big screen the whole time. Her quote was, “How’s this different from a music show?” What made it worse was that she had gone to a Day6 concert just the day before, and she’s not a fan of them either, but she had an absolute blast. The contrast between the two concerts was huge according to her. She acknowledged that some people might excuse lipsyncing because idols dance a lot, but said that her past experiences at concerts like 2NE1 and WINNER were totally different. Those groups gave high energy, live performances that really left an impression. All in all, she found the aespa concert boring. Too much lipsyncing and not enough energy. She said it felt more like watching a long music show featuring beautiful girls rather than a concert she could enjoy as a casual fan. It felt like a waste of money and something only hardcore stans would be able to enjoy. The only real highlight for her was getting to see Karina up close. This video has been gaining a lot of attention in Korea, now sitting at nearly 600k views, which is quite surprising considering she had no following beforehand. I think aespa’s recent GMA performance might have contributed to it going viral. Just for context, the concert she attended happened a few weeks before the GMA stage. As for me, I’m generally fine with a few lipsynced performances at concerts. If the choreography is super intense, I can understand it. But when most of the concert is lipsynced or the AR is loud enough to completely drown their voices, I feel like it’s doing the audience a disservice. I really hope the girls are able to deliver stronger, more engaging shows for the rest of the tour. Here's the link to the video if anyone is interested. She included English subtitles too. submitted by /u/GainImpressive8183 [link] [comments]
