2.879. Not sure if it’s just me, but being a BLINK on Reddit feels isolating sometimes

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I don’t know if anyone else feels this way but as a long time BLINK, I often feel really unwelcome in Reddit’s K-pop spaces. It’s not about wanting everyone to love Blackpink. Criticism is natural and no group is perfect. But the tone here often feels overwhelmingly dismissive or even hostile. I’ve seen countless threads where even the mildest praise for Blackpink gets downvoted or met with sarcastic replies. Sometimes it feels like there’s a collective eye roll the moment their name is mentioned. And it’s not just r/kpop. Even here on r/kpopthoughts, which is supposed to be more open to different perspectives, I see a lot of posts that feel like thinly veiled negativity toward the group or their fans. I hesitate to share anything positive because I feel like I’ll be shut down or assumed to be “delusional” or a “toxic stan.” I’ve talked to other fans who feel the same way, like there’s an unspoken rule that you can’t enjoy Blackpink publicly without getting attacked or dismissed. It’s draining, and it honestly makes me wonder why people are okay with this double standard. Especially when fans of other big groups are allowed to gush about their faves without being ridiculed. I’m not trying to start drama. I’m genuinely just frustrated. I want to be able to talk about what I love, what so many people love, without feeling like I’m walking into a minefield. I know there are toxic Blinks out there, just like in any fandom, but I don’t think that justifies the way the whole fanbase is treated. If you’ve felt this too, I’d like to hear your experience. Or even if you disagree, feel free to share, just respectfully. submitted by /u/Mani_srao [link] [comments]

2.880. It's been a few since the "bullying accusations" train. This is what I think about it.

  • reddit.com language

In case anyone doesn't know, there was a "trend" in 2018-2022 of accusing idols of being bullies at school. Some were real cases, others were fake, and others were so hyped that they ended the idols' careers. To start, I must say that if the case is real, the idol did deserve to be accused/exposed. There are cases of celebrities who WERE bullies and apologized/accepted the consequences. Now, the thing is with those who fell foul of false accusations, possibly driven by jealousy. Garam, Soojin, almost Hyunjin... (I'm not going to get into the AOA or April issue because I don't know if they were real or not). These cases demonstrate how key it is to remain neutral until there is compelling and undeniable evidence that the idol is guilty. It's not fair that the idol who was falsely accused is blacklisted, while the person who blamed them gets off scot-free (yeah, I'm looking at you, Seo Shin Ae). Now that a few years have passed and there aren't as many scandals like this, I wonder: what can we do when a case like this comes to light? Why do people lie about such sensitive topics just out of jealousy? What if the people who were actually abused by idols were made invisible by these cases? submitted by /u/_issio [link] [comments]

2.881. Annie wanted to be an idol but her parents were completely against it so they made a deal that if she gets into an ivy league college she can pursue it

This is from ZIP Daesung. D: We can't skip this story. Our Annie. Truly a NEW WORLD. [ Shinsegae (신세계) literally translates to "new world" ] So how did you get permission? A: It took about ten years. At first, they were 100% against it. But I kept saying I really wanted to do this and finally the deal was "If you get into the Ivy League, we'll let you." D: You got into Columbia.~ A: Yes submitted by /u/DiMpLe_dolL003 [link] [comments]

2.882. K-pop needs more collabs like this!

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This is some main vocal excellence right here! This is a collab between Ken (Vixx), Youngjae (GOT7), Hui (Pentagon) and Sangyeop (Lucy), all of them main vocals of their respective groups. My ears have been absolutely blessed and I hope collabs like this become a lot more common, because DAMN! The song is called 'Old Song' originally by Standing Egg, in case anyone was curious. submitted by /u/Lupyx_of_Wallachia [link] [comments]

2.883. is here a way to borrow from black culture without appropriating?

  • 3 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

genuine question, im not black, just trying to learn. Is there a way to for example wear braids/dreads without appropriating. I lurk in the noir sub, and they seem totally against the idea of non black people wearing them, even though most of the times idols have worn them, they haven't actually done something disrespectful while wearing them. Again I might sound ignorant, but I mean no harm. I hope I wasn't disrespectful in my question, I wanted to post in the noir sub but I don't have a flair thought I might as well ask here. submitted by /u/ProfessionalOk7281 [link] [comments]
