This is Not because I don't think she's gay or because I'm trying to be one of those "ShUt Up AbOuT tHeIr SeXuALitY aNd JuSt EnJoY tHe SoNg" people (i mean the song is hauntingly beautiful and the entire release is incredible and very powerful and moving and I've had it on repeat but also Holy Shit is it gay to it's core). It's just that Yves is so known as being gay among fans that when someone posts about the release with a caption about it being gay, the overwhelming response is just people automatically going "lol fork found in kitchen" or "you just realized that today?" and moving on with their day instead of actually going to watch the video and realizing that Holy shit she just released a genuinely amazing song with an explicitly queer storyline that is more open and intentional about it than like 80% of all the MVs that get called gay on here. I feel like I'm going insane. I've linked the video to all my friends who are into LOONA and half of them just assumed i was making a general joke comment about Yves being gay and it wasn't until i told them to actually watch it that they started freaking out about it. These days, unless it's promotions for sth, I feel like 90% of the time I hear sth about 1st / 2nd / early 3rd Gen - ish idols it's bc yet another one of them turned out to have a well... questionable character. Which does make me curious - who amongst the older generation of idols actually turned out to be genuinely decent people? I think it's important that someone had an extreme reaction to it. Cause if you we are being honest kpop industry gets away with things like this alot. And i think because most artists might be detered by the reaction of kpop fans and stans. Because we can talk about oh they were just inspired all we want, but if we being honest it undermines artists that work hard to create visuals and create music. Cause anytime, usually a smaller artist has some semblance creative visuals to a kpop stans immediately become vial. And even when the plagiarism is blatant, case in point tinashe's superlove music video. I remember a Kpop somg made around the late 2010s. It was made to bring awareness of pedophilia in the kpop industry. The woman who made the song became an idol very young, hence why the song was so well made. I remember it had her counting down her age. The lyrics had “you make me feel 29, 29. You make me feel 28, 28” and continously went down to 21, but instead of ending it she sang in the next line “you make me feel, baby girl, baby girl”, then the lighting dimmed as the music momentarily faded as if she looked panicked. Before the ending it gets bubbly again. When it came out, the song was well praised by audiences. I can’t remember the reactions of South Korean producers though. I remembered this song tonight and tried to find it with what information I had. No searches even gave me a remotely close answer to who the singer was. I know for the past few years google has been removing websites and hiding what used to be public information. But even bing has had mass censorship. I can’t help but think they wanted to cover how unsafe the industry is as much as possible. i'm not saying the plagiarism done by the creative directors of the mv is justified in any way, because it's not, but i'm curious as to why people are blaming soyeon? from what i understand of the situation, soyeon was just a vocal feature who had no part in the creative direction. i saw that yseult first called soyeon out mistakenly, instead of the actual directors, and was rightfully corrected. however, instead of extending an apology for misdirection of blame, she doubled down that she didn't care and wouldn't apologise. my thoughts are that she doesn't have to and shouldn't apologise for calling out the plagiarism, but shouldn't she admit she mistakenly blamed soyeon for something she wasn't actually at fault for? i was more surprised to see that this is more of an unpopular take, and people are mostly defending yseult's reaction to this issue. thoughts? i'm curious what others think and if i'm misunderstanding the situation. submitted by /u/DryAd8132 [link] [comments]
