I'll start off by saying I don't actively consume survival shows and the last one I followed religiously was Treasure box and eventhough I've tried to indulge in the current crop of survival shows, I can't help but notice how more needlessly dramatic and cruel they've gotten as of recent. I'm not saying the Produce series and past survival shows were saintly pieces of programming(my eyes still twitch a little remembering the position battles in treasure box), but it nowadays seems like the producers are constantly aiming to make these shows as traumatising as possible and it's getting worse, the recent disqualification of the C trainees in Boys Planet 2 was absolutely horrendous and I backed out from ever watching that show again because of it. I actually initially thought these formats were normal or it came with the territory of a normal idol survival show but then I watched Japanese idol survival shows like Nonogirls and Produce 101 japan and it's actually just exclusive to the kpop industry, so I can't help but feel that these shows are structured intentionally to exploit their trainees and the audience for nothing more than profit and clout and it's getting worse submitted by /u/Zestyclose-Bridge830 [link] [comments]

I'm not gonna go with f(x) cuz that's kinda cheating, I'll choose my 2nd favourites SNSD. I think their most experimental songs are definitely I Got A Boy along with the b-side Look At Me. Listened to their most recent album yesterday and I just had some thoughts to say the least. I'm a firm believer that artists/groups' popularity is primarily influenced by their music and how well their music is able to capture audiances and appeal. Ateez always felt like a group with potential and talent, and I am not saying they are not successful, I think they did great with the hand they were dealt with and I think they made a name for themselves in the industry. However, listening to their latest album, I kind of felt disatisfied with the quality of their music and I felt like something is missing. I am not saying that their music is ''awful'', but I definitely think it's not on par with what it could be, and for a group with their popularity, I expected to see a higher level of quality in both production and lyricism. And most importantly, I feel like there has barely been any evolution from their earlier stuff. In fact some early music by them seems to have overall better production quality than later stuff. I don't know if their in-house production team is burned out, or if their recent music is consistently being rushed, but you can definitely tell it's still rough around the edges and that members' skills are not used to the fullest, as well as lyrcism not always hitting the mark. And this is not a dig at a specific genre of theirs, because I listen to a variety of genres and am a fan of many, this s something I hold as an opinion on their music across the board. I expect better arrangement, a more clean sound, better mixing, better layering of vocals and instrumentals, members' vocal skills and vocal colors being used to their full potential. For some reason a lot of their recent songs sound like a bunch of rough demos that were given to them with no further effort to polish them. Again, I am not saying their music is awful, but I definitely think they have a case of never tapping into a higher quality of production and also being stuck with certain formulas, which in turn I think closes certain roads for them when it comes to evolving. submitted by /u/oddv8gue [link] [comments]

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, especially with how some of the former Trainee A members are slowly popping up again in the industry. It honestly makes me sad seeing what could’ve been. Let’s talk facts!!! members like JJ and Jihoon have proven they’ve got presence. JJ trended when he was revealed as an SM trainee. Jihoon’s debut in TWS might not have made huge waves, but it did spark discussion. Then there's Yorch.. his debut also drew attention, even if it didn’t blow up massively. Still, people talked. And hello??? Woochan with All Day Project?? That man has the whole K-pop community talking — not because of a scandal, but because of how excellent he is. He’s killing it with his rap, stage presence, everything. Truly one of the standouts of this year. Let’s not forget Leo and Sangwon from Boys Planet 2. They were literally main characters of that show. Leo being the judges’ top pick and Sangwon pulling in viewers as a visual magnet! you can't deny their impact. Jihoon was a choreographer’s favorite, JJ and James were monsters on stage, and Woochan slayed both rap and dance. It just hurts, you know? Watching a group with this much potential fall apart before they even got the chance. All because BigHit couldn’t handle Leo’s issue properly fr something that could’ve been prevented or at least managed better. The whole team had such a massive following even in their pre-debut days. Over a million YouTube subscribers ( that’s a number some established groups struggle to reach). Trainee A really could’ve been the next big thing.
