Unpopular Opinion: EXO’s comeback is more anticipated than BTS

EXO’s Decemeber comeback announcement poster on Twitter/X has garnered over 4 million views under two hours. I don’t think I saw this type of engagement on BTS’ official accounts even when the members were discharged. I think in international spaces EXO is slowly reclaiming the top spot again. More and more multifans and casuals are waiting for the EXO reunion it seems. submitted by /u/Electronic-Cap-8336 [link] [comments]

64. EXO is back and I need to freak out about this

  • reddit.com language

So I don't know how many people have seen the teaser, but yeah EXO is back. And maybe non-fans will not understand the gravity of this statement, but it is a pretty big freaking thing. This comeback has been rumored since (2023??) and fans actually lost all hopes after last year, despite Suho (EXO's leader) saying it's coming again and again. This year, however, many members started saying it, including Lay, who has not been a part of an EXO comeback for a long time. And now, they have dropped the teaser. With a new unique logo, poster having EXO MAMA's lyrics etched like it's a verse from a bible, and above all, they released it on the lunar eclipse day (for those who don't know, earlier EXO's comeback announcements used to happen on lunar activity days). Safe to say, I have been losing my mind for the past two hours. This comeback is quite special for me. I became a proper k-pop fan in 2023 and EXO (the album EXODUS specifically) was one of the things that made me respect k-pop music. Though EXIST was my first comeback, it felt very tense and a "here damn" kinda comeback because of everything that was going on at that time between the group and SM (the music still slapped though). This comeback, however, has made me hopeful because the members themselves are excited, we are getting old lores back, and the music (like always) is bound to slap. In a way, it feels like my first comeback as a fan. So what are your speculations about the album? How do you want the comeback to be? Are we getting a winter album or a normal album? I want to hear all the theories! submitted by /u/Open_Refrigerator215 [link] [comments]

67. I'm not a fan of big stadium K-pop concerts

  • 11 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I’d honestly take a K-pop concert at a smaller venue over a stadium show any day. My experiences with them have just been disappointing. They’re usually way more expensive if you want a decent seat, otherwise, you’re stuck watching a giant screen for hours. There’s a lot more crowd pushing, the lines are insane, and traffic around the venue is always a nightmare. In comparison, I went to a smaller concert, about 1/6 the size of a stadium, and paid around $100 to be just 10 meters from the stage. The lines didn’t take forever either. submitted by /u/Oestudantebr [link] [comments]

69. You don't need to stan groups based off of quality.

  • 11 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

PLEASE READ I have been seeing this sentiment increasingly recently that you should stan groups because they make good music. At first, I instantly adopted this mindset. It made perfect sense. People need to stop stanning a group because the idols are funny or bevause the group is from a big company. You should stan and want to support groups with good music. However, I recently realized this is kind of stupid. I think this mindset stems from the idea that "taste" only means one thing, when it doesn't. It means two things. You have two tastes. One is what music you find good, and the other, is what music you like. These are two distinct things. You can stan a group and not think their music is the best or even think their music is bad. You just have to like the music. The purpose of stanning a group is to engage with and make a group you like part of your kpop identity and life. This means the group you stan/ult should be a group whose music you LIKE. Because the goal of stanning a group is to make you happy. submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

71. Feeling unsettled after watching the Boy in Luv and Danger music videos by BTS

  • 12 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Trigger Warning for conversation about violent/harmful content I just watched the music videos for Boy in Luv and Danger (with the captions on) for the first time and I am honestly feeling very unsettled by them. With Boy in Luv, it’s more the music video that I was uncomfortable with, but the lyrics certainly didn’t make it better. With Danger, it is primarily the lyrics that I am uncomfortable with. In the Boy in Luv video, they were actually violent (I’m sure the actress was okay but it was not okay to watch). This kind of behavior seems so out of character for them based on what I know of them today. Even the lyrics make me uncomfortable with the way they are talking about women. It doesn’t seem like they are in love but rather that they actually hate women. There’s also themes of non-consensual touching/kissing in the lyrics as well which is just not okay. The lyrics to Danger are kind of scary and feel very violent and abusive. It’s so threatening and just not okay at all. Again, it just seems like they hate women. I’ve only recently started going down the BTS rabbit hole and prior to watching these videos I was really enjoying it. The sentiments of these songs are so polar opposite to everything else I’ve seen from them. They seem like genuinely nice guys but now I’m questioning that after seeing these videos and reading the lyrics. I don’t even see how these songs/videos were acceptable back in 2014. I want to continue enjoying BTS content, but I genuinely don’t know if I can move past this and feel okay about them. I feel like I’m stuck and I don’t really know what to do. Have they ever addressed this or apologized for the harmful content in the Boy in Luv video? submitted by /u/Some_Register1831 [link] [comments]

74. Aespa Rich man isn't bad at all, people just have sky high expectations.

  • 12 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

As we all know, they had a legendary run from Drama to Whiplash, and not every song will hit the same way. DIrty work and rich man are only criticized so much cause they're not up the the standards of the run. They're still good songs for other group's standards, and wouldn't get the same hate if they were from those said groups. I understand people love Whiplash for example, but not every song will be like Whiplash and people should accept that. It's normal for a group to change their sound and experiment. submitted by /u/Lost-Investigator266 [link] [comments]

77. YG & Sam Taylor-Johnson are two peas in a pod

  • 13 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

TW: Mentions of grooming Sam Taylor-Johnson is the much older wife of Aaron Taylor-Johnson. When they first met, he was around 17 she was 42 with kids from another relationship. While there are unfortunately some weirdos out there who've tried to make bizarre excuses for this age gap, many were understandably uncomfortable & disgusted when the news of Sam & Aaron's relationship first came out. Many argued that if Sam were a man & Aaron were a woman, the amount of outrage would've been way louder & I couldn't agree more. Predatory behaviour isn't gendered. A predator's a predator regardless of what you are. Point blank period. YG knew his current wife, Lee Eun Ju of Swi.T, since she was just 12-13. By 16, she debut in the group Swi.T, but one of the reasons why the group broke up to begin with was not only due to mismanagement, but also YG was developing feelings for her & grooming Eun Ju into being in a relationship with him. Again, this grown man knew Eun Ju when she was a preteen & somehow, her "parents" didn't sound the alarms on this. Honestly, I find it so wrong to call Eun Ju's parents "parents" because if I found out my child was being preyed on like that by their CEO, I'd be seeing red. In both cases, Sam & YG altered their partners' careers for the worse & they have kids. Both Aaron & Eun Ju now have the deal with the fact that their work is often overshadowed by the fact that they were preyed upon. Their children will have to grow with this fact & will have to deal with endless amounts of torment from bullies because of things their parents did. Both situations are depressing AF & especially disturbing when it comes to YG because most people seem to have forgotten the fact that he did this. submitted by /u/GenoveveSimmons15 [link] [comments]

79. Being a K-pop fan in most parts of the world feels pretty distant

  • 13 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

For most people around the globe, K-pop just isn’t accessible. There are no festivals, concerts, fan signs, or even good local merch. I really noticed this when talking to a friend from Korea, seeing K-pop acts for him is just another Thursday. It's very accessible. But for me? I have to start calculating travel costs, accommodations, and everything else… until I eventually just give up, lol. submitted by /u/Striking-Meal-5257 [link] [comments]

81. My take on aespa and the rich man mini album

  • 14 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Aespa had am insane run going from drama to supernova to armageddon to whiplash. It will be hard to top that and for a while it'll feel like anything they release falls flat in comparison for some people. But the thing is that they can't keep releasing supernovas forever. Yes,dirty work and rich man stray away from their typical hyperpop futuristic concept but they want to experiment and they've more than earned it. They're at a stable point in their career with a huge fandom and great success. Plus,it's natural progression for an artist to feel the need to experiment with their sound. While I prefer their 2024 run too,I recognize that they want to try new things. As for the rich man mini itself, the tt is on the more underwhelming side, especially for aespa's standards but the mini has some standout bsides, mainly count on me and to a lesser extent angel #48. Surprising to me cause I usually prefer their tts to their bsides. It's not a bad album by any means. Compared to their last two minis,I'd rank it as Whiplash>Rich man>Drama. I love drama as a tt,it's my fave of aespa's but I hated the bsides. Rich man has a more underwhelming tt but far better bsides and more cohesion as a mini. As for Whiplash,I think it's on par with savage. Overall,I'd rate the new mini a 6.5 out of ten. I think it's a decent enough body of work and I see myself listening to some bsides submitted by /u/Alive-Pitch-9180 [link] [comments]
