So lately I've been seeing reels, shorts, and TikToks of influencers who have never talked about kpop all of a sudden show clips of them going to see Ateez, Stray kids, Black Pink, and eventually BTS since they are on tour. Now I'm not saying that people can't be new fans, but the wave of influencers who all of sudden hop on kpop when they were the same people making fun of those who enjoy kpop and treating us like weirdos. This same thing happened with anime fans and how those who were interested in it back then were bullied so much, but now that their Favorite celebrity is collaborating with kpop groups or showing their intest in anime all of a sudden it's fine. I found many idols and actors that look very similar. Like Taeyong, Jae joong and Kim Myung Soo(L) could be the same person😂. Also ( Eun bin CLC) and Kim hee Jung. Soobin (txt ) and Min-Hyuk (BTOB). July 2024 data. Bloomberg did a plot of songs released by the Big 4, since 1995, by percent of English lyrics. You'll see it here if you scroll down the middle. I’d guess it's gotten higher since, with more Katseye and solo BP releases. Kpop wasn't known for 100% English singles like Twice This Is For until recent years. Second slide shows the percent of foreign born members in Big 4 groups, reaching 47% in the most recent 4 years. The Bloomberg article talks about SM's investment in 'Western' Kpop, both the UK group that would become DearAlice and with building its internal pool of Western songwriters/producers. This article (Korea Herald) partly confirms my suspicion about diminishing returns on English lyrics, at least in Korea. I was thinking about this in the context of the KDH soundtrack bringing more meaning to the English lyrics, in contrast to something like Gnarly. I get the irony behind Alice Longyu Gao’s explanation, but that’s lost in the dissonance between her intent and its use mainly as a dance track in the final product. Self-evident, but worth noting: meaningful English is an important part of the formula that helped KDH songs blow up. Authenticity in the execution is part of that meaning. This isn't a knock on Katseye; Gnarly is working for them. It's a stylistic difference, emotional connection to sell the movie vs. dance entertainment. Kpop needs bring stimulating entertainment, that’s why the genre name sounds closest to ‘bop’ 😐. But I think the unexpected vibes and breaking dogmas is what makes KDH work. sorry in advance for the rant i'm just fucking pissed so........ what do we do when our own faves keep doing something that doesn't align with our beliefs even after aaaaaaalllll the trends, hashtags and calling them out we've been doing ? why is it so difficult to say "okay, that's enough, what you're doing is wrong and you'll get the consequences of your actions" ? sometimes they just don't care, or act like they do in public and then when no one's watching they keep fucking up and doing what they've been called out for multiple times kiof have been cancelled (and RIGHTFULLY so) for racism, a few groups have also been cancelled for racism, being ambassadors for x y z brand or just consuming them etc.... but why isn't it the same with big groups ? bts, blackpink, stray kids... fan wars are so fucking DUMB when there are palestians literally being killed for being born on a land is-not-real think belongs to them but people are on social media talking about how we're mean for trying to cancel their faves, how it's to make another group seem better etc etc, but it's my OWN favorite groups i'm talking about so... why am i being thrown under the bus (i'm talking about skz/atz consuming starbucks and so on) submitted by /u/piercingjade [link] [comments]

Young Posse just performed in Moscow and their outfits were literally camo clothes. I find it sad that idols get cancelled for the most stupid reasons but when a kpop group gets sold for dirty cash like some cheap prostitutes then no one cares. Why do people search for slighted link to Israel to cancel idols but kpop idols literally perform in Moscow without consequences? What is wrong with kpop community? We Europeans are very sensitive obviously, lot of our friends died in Ukraine and supporting all of this just looks degenerate. I just watched Somi’s new MV, and it’s pretty clear they sampled Sean Kingston’s Beautiful Girls. Personally, I didn’t think the song was very good, and it definitely won’t be going into my playlist. Considering how sporadically Somi releases music, I feel like there was plenty of time to really dig deep and create a unique sound for listeners.
