My final conclusion of this album is that it is REALLY good. But unlike some of my favourite Skz albums, it definately took a few listens to be cemented as really good. To me, Karma is the perfect example of when "there's not enough of it" is to its detriment, not a compliment. There are SO many good elements in this album but most of the songs simply weren't long enough for those elements to truly be established, hence why it took a few listens to truly enjoy them. I think for stray kids especially, you can really feel the shortening of songs. This is a group that really loves to add so many different ideas and structures into their music and revel in them. Think S-Class, with its powerful opening, followed by a minimalistic verse, a powerful vocal pre-chorus, an antidrop, a beat change, a vocal bridge + rap section + dance break. The gem of Skz music is HOW MUCH there is in it, and so its very noticable when those layers are stripped away. You can especially feel the lack of a bridge in their music. Karma is a banger album but I really hope the 'short song epidemic' doesn't take hold of the rest of skz discography. Now for the individual songs. Bleep - classic SKZ and obviously, it works. Love the pre-chorus and lazy rap section. I do think the chorus could go harder, its not the best of best of the skz sound, but its still catchy. Ceremony - Okay, after a few listens, I get it, I really do. The first listening was definitely overwhelming but now I put Ceremony over their 2024 title tracks for sure. The instrumental is addicting and you can tell the song was made to be performed at concerts. The song is at its best accompanied by the music video. But yeah, not their best title track, and I wish they would bring back the vocal sections I can sink my teeth into. But I do really like it now. Creed - It's catchy, I like it. It's a duller song, especially the chorus, but I really am grooving with the rap section. I was never really a rap fan but SKZ music has brought me to a point where I can appreciate good verses, and Creed absolutely has those. Mess - The use of autotune is actually devastating me. The melody is beautiful, the instrumentals are GORGEOUS (like a mix of Cinema and Falling Up.) As the biggest Alien and Volcana fan, I know Han can pull off autotune production really well. But I don't see any need for it in this song. It's a beautiful song that would be elevated so much more by more natural sounding vocals. In My Head - Oh, they cooked so hard. This is the start of what I think is the holy trinity of this album. SKZ pulled this emo pop style off so well and the lyrics genuinely touch me to the core. Alas, it's too short. Half-time - A flawless quintessential SKZ song. The pre-chorus has proven that 3racha will never stop growing and playing around melodically with their music. I love the symbolism of "they don't know what's coming" being sung over a seemingly unpredictable progression of notes. Phoenix - It's given Alan Walker and I am here for it. I have to give respect to this album for still being able to give us new sounds after 7 years, it makes me so excited for future music. That being said, hearing the Alan Walker vibes, the beat could have absolutely gone harder at the end. That's what I'm saying from the beginnign of these song lenghts, there are so many strong elements not being fully leaned into. Ghost - it's on my playlist but it's my least favourite song on the album. There's such a disconnect between the melody and instrumentals and the song definately feels a little forgettable after the trifacta of In My Head - Halftime - Phoenix. I like the lyrics though! 0801 - this was the song I had low expectations for but it definately exceeded them! I think fan songs are sweet but I didn't see what a new one could offer. we've all seen it: when a song gets released and a bunch of ppl just deCide that a certain lyric means something or that a line is referencing something despite nobody from the group saying or implying that😭 or like when an idol says/does something and fans decide things in their mind about it and run with it like crazy. usually to heavily mischaracterize an idol for years. this can range from ultra petty stuff that shouldn't bother you so much but it just dOes, to something more substantial that is genuinely unnecessary this usually happens when an idol said something they liked years and years ago and fans will stiLL act like this is the *one and only* character trait of that idol. e.g. Felix making brownies ages ago and now ppl still act like every day he's out here pioneering brownie baking lmao even though he's made it pretty clear he doesnt do it as much nowadays and hasnt for a while submitted by /u/Important-Zombie9331 [link] [comments]

I am really curious if anyone else has found this strange. Most of the major kpop companies wait around 3-5 years between debuting groups of the same gender in the same market For example, I’m thinking of the gaps between JYP debuting GOT7 (2014), Stray Kids (2018), and Kickflip (2025), and in terms of Korean girl groups Twice (2015), Itzy (2019) and Nmixx (2022) — I’m considering their bands and Japanese groups as intended for different markets. I am using JYP as an example but this seems to be the prevailing pattern. I had been a little tuned out of Kpop for a while so coming back and seeing that HYBE has been pretty much debuting a boy group a year beginning with Tomorrow X Together (2019), Enhypen (2020), Boynextdoor (2023), TWS (2024), Cortis (2025), all while BTS and Seventeen still have huge fanbases. I understand that HYBE now owns many labels and not all of these groups are under the same label but they are still competing for the same fans in the kpop market to an extend. They also debuted three girl groups in quick succession, Le sserafim (2022), New Jeans (2022) and Illit (2024) and the comparisons of their concepts/treatment both from staff within the company and by fans externally has contributed to a lot of controversy. One might think that HYBE would learn their lesson and spread out their debuts to avoid groups cannibalizing each others audience and fan wars/comparison, but it seems like they’re keeping up the pace. Hearing that they are debuting a new girl group for the western market in 2026, after Katseye is finally hitting their stride, made me really question this. There just isn’t a huge western audience for girl groups yet so I don’t understand how they expect both groups to be able to develop unique identities and succeed so quickly. I genuinely would like to know if anyone has any theories about why HYBE is doing this. Are they just that successful? Is this strategy working for them overall? Why don’t other kpop companies use it then? The only theory I have is that HYBE might be trying to monopolize the market. Variety has this youtube series where they invite 2 actors who are a pretty unexpected pairing to chat with each other in an unscripted environment. I was thinking if kpop had that format which 2 unexpected idols would you put together to just have a conversation with one another regarding music or their careers? I would probably pick Yoongi and Sakura. Even when suchwita aired I really wanted le sserafim to guest on the show cause I think for some reason the two of them would have a lot to talk about. Photocards don’t even guarantee you’ll get your bias, and the actual list of cards is usually private. I still can’t believe we have to dig through X posts or Pinterest boards just to figure out what versions exist. For something that people are willing to spend money on and collect, the information is surprisingly scattered and unfriendly. I get that the randomness adds some fun, but it feels kind of backwards that the more seriously you want to collect, the more detective work you have to do. Just for fun, I tried making a template where you can see all ATEEZ photocards in one place — versions, member cards, everything at a glance. Would something like this actually be useful for collectors? Or do most people prefer their own systems like spreadsheets or folders?
