102. Why is TWICE hated by the Western mainstream media?

  • 19 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Because when I think of TWICE I think of nine amazing, empowering, talented women that reached heights no Korean girl group has ever reached, and they remained humble and authentic every single step of the way. Most of the members are not even aware of the records or musical feats they’ve established in the last 10 years. Arguably the nicest human beings in the entire industry. Yet it seems that Western media has viciously targeted them throughout their career, specially in the last months. So the question is, what has TWICE done to deserve this treatment from Western mainstream media? Who is behind these slander campaigns and what is their interest behind these campaigns? Before anyone mentions it: group ≠ fandom. A fandom is not an excuse to hate on the artists themselves and their music. The official accounts of YouTube Music and Duolingo disrespecting TWICE, among countless other examples over the years, is undeniable evidence of this agenda against TWICE. Very sad! submitted by /u/KyeodeurangiMerchant [link] [comments]

104. Respectfully, we don't care that you think kpop may be too childish for you to enjoy at your age.

  • 19 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I see a ton of these posts from people wondering or contemplating if kpop is too childish for them to enjoy at their age. At best, this is just stupid. At worst, this is disrespectful. You can enjoy kpop, nay, you can enjoy any form of entertainment at any age. (For adults, obviously there is some entertainment a kid shouldn't be viewing let alone enjoying.) I have seen older kpop fans bring up genuine or at the very least reasonable/arguable reasons that make them skeptical of enjoying kpop (not that I agree with them) but the fact that it is "too childish", pardon my French, is complete bullshit. Even if we grant that kpop is childish for a second, who gives af? Adults can enjoy things designed for children/younger people. Even if this isn't true and that above statement is up for debate, what answer are you possibly trying to get from us? Isn't this something that is entirely up to you? How can we tell you if something is too childish for yourself? That doesn't even make sense. Also Kpop isn't childish, because kpop isn't a monolith. Some kpop is childish, other kpop isn't. You can absolutely find kpop more targeted to adults or general audiences if you want, and it is nowhere near as hard to find as many people may suggest. By asking this question, you are essentially belittling everything kpop is and can be and treating it as a singular thing in a context where it doesn't make sense to do so. This only leads to misinformation and discourages artistic discussion and music discourse surrounding kpop. In conclusion, listen to whatever you want to listen to. You decide what that is. submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

106. Is it worth watching Produce X 101 even knowing how things ended?

  • 19 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I rant, like a lot, but I'm painting you a picture, so if you dont wanna read it thats fine. Just dont comment "im not reading all that" because no one is forcing you, I promise. So I recently got reinterested in finishing the Produce saga. I watched the Wanna One season and unexpectedly got so invested in the boys and that whole journey. I also had lots of fun picking my favs to see how they faired after the contract ended. The variety shows during Wanna One's duration kept me busy for a good 2 weeks after I finished watching Season 2, honestly they were such an interesting bunch of people and made me laugh out loud so many times in that Wanna One Go series. I just wonder. Whenever I watch an Mnet show I tend to go back to YouTube to watch some clips (or performances in this case) in 4k because we all know the sites that are still available for free to watch old shows are limited, dont have the best quality, and often cant be sped up. Anyway, as I was watching Nayana, the next video suddenly started playing and it was X1-MA (honestly gives me goosebumps, that performance was fire). I spent a few months afterwards pretending I didnt care because while I wasnt a kpop fan at the time, I probably only got into kpop a few months after their sudden disbandment and I kept hearing little tidbits here and there about what happened. It made me feel weird about possibly watching it too. But yesterday I got nostalgic and listened to Nayana again, which obviously made me remember X1-MA. So I played myself, I told myself, "fine, I just wanna know who the cute boy is and why that line up came to be". Next thing you know I'm crying while watching the episodes, rooting for strangers, and hiding it from my family in case they roast me about crying over kpop things. I finally reached the part when the X1-MA stage was performed. But now I really dont know whether to continue. If you watched Produce X 101 did you feel like you wish you never got invested in them? I mean, the X1 that ended up being formed? (No spoilers please, I'm using this to try and figure out if I should continue anyway and would really appreciate going in with a fresh set of eyes and ears). I just find it sad that everyone put in so much work only for some people to be cheated out of the opportunity. I'm actually shocked Mnet ended up making another eries like this (for girls, but still — I think, I only heard through the grape vine, back then I was skilled at avoiding things that didnt concern me). Do you wish you never saw the formation of X1? Did you feel resentment at the final lineup? Idk, someone help me out. I'm actually more interested in the final few episodes anyway, I was actually skipping the performances for Wanna One's season too because it felt repetitive at some point. The fun lies in after debut. But considering X1 didnt last– ugh, I'm going in circles. Do you regret it? Will I regret getting more invested? submitted by /u/YoungComplete7208 [link] [comments]

107. Ejae’s Take it Slow features her highs + Golden is like its sequel + Her song Once Again also shows off vocals

  • 20 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Was breaking down Golden and tried to find an example of Ejae’s singing. You get a sense of her range here on Take It Slow, from a soundtrack. There’s also an interview where she’s talking about her process, and you can tell how good her vocals are even just mock singing in a livestream. "Once Again" shows off her breathy highs and control some more. She does this “vibrato” singing at 2:11 and 2:21. Take It Slow is from another drama soundtrack, written and performed by Ejae per Spotify credits. Apple Music lists her as the only lyricist. It actually seems like elements of Take It Slow's lyrics reappear in Golden. These lines feature the same throne/alone rhyme: Tryna find my throne When I’m there, will I still feel alone? Golden: I was a ghost, I was alone […] Given the throne, I didn't know how to believe But Take It Slow is more stuck in doubt, pessimistic: My cup’s still halfway full And I wanna feel alright for once There’s similar “text painting,” a kind of wordplay when the artist’s lyrics describe what she’s doing vocally. Ejae does text painting when she sings “up, up, up” with a high pitch. The vocal delivery becomes a sonic synonym to the lyric. It’s a way to emphasize the words by saying it to you in two different ways. Golden: We're goin' up, up, up Take It slow: I wanna go higher, higher So there’s two specific similarities, throne/alone rhyme and up/higher text painting. I think Golden built off this song. It feels autobiographical in the same way, as if Ejae could be talking about her career, but there’s no victory celebration. I saw her talk about music being her therapy. By putting her personal life into her songs, even when they’re for an assignment in someone else’s project, she gives an underlying authenticity. It’s like Golden draws on the same mood of Take It Slow from years earlier, but Ejae sensed this might be a once in a lifetime chance for her to win. A chance to put that mood entirely in the past, to remember where she came from, but never have to feel those lows again. To me, the recognition of her opportunity is similar to how Doechii brought a very focused, tight verse to ExtraL. Feeling “like me" = feeling at “home” Waited so long to break these walls down To wake up and feel like me I think this struggle in Golden echoes this part of Take It Slow: Take me home I’ve been wondering if I should fold The city’s been grinding me down to the bone But I don’t wanna surrender We’ve been running round for way too long The earlier song is more a fear of giving up or not making it. The 2nd Golden line (translated), “It darkened, the road in front of me” is a little like “city… grinding me down to the bone.” Both could be about Ejae’s life situation, her decade long effort to be an idol. Notice the quietness that dominates Take It Slow. It’s much more overtly sad than Golden, her voice mournful and almost mumbled at the start, as if singing to herself. Note her details, like slurring the word “tired” and almost stuttering when she sings “alone.” You have some of that quiet in the start of Golden’s two verses, but even there it sounds more dominant. of course the plot difference in voicing a superstar idol. But I think for Golden she tapped into real validation she felt from writing more hits in between these two songs. Credit on songs like Armageddon, Drama, and O.O make it easier for her to bring that victory lap energy. She remembers that symbolic quiet loneliness that Take It Slow channels. But now she’s at a point in life to write the sequel to from a bigger, better place. submitted by /u/hyeran_jainros_fc [link] [comments]

114. I don't understand the hype over enhypen

  • 23 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT HATE THIS GROUP!!!!! First, I think their concept is... weird for a k-pop group that will get slandered if they are caught dating. It is usually about having girlfriends and being sexy vampire, like I am not sure if they can even relate with their lyrics, which is really sad because it ruins the vibe. Second, I do not hate any member nor dislike them but I don't think they all actually get a long as well as groups like Stray Kids for example. This, also ruins the vibe of the group. They act all friends on camera and then after they just don't communicate and probably just leave or go out or talk to the member they always talk to. Then, there is them getting overworked, and I know a lot of engenes hate this and other fandoms too. And thinking about what goes on behind the scenes, again, ruins the vibe of it. Finally, the constant hate and critisism they get, even after being worked for so long every day and night. "Niki's deep voice is fake." - ok, we kinda know that but what if his natural voice doesn't fit the lines he is given that he has to do that? or "[....] is ugly" But they actually are not. They have mental health too. So honestly, I don't get why their are so hyped over, not saying they shouldn't be. submitted by /u/Far-Lab-9945 [link] [comments]

116. Why do many k-pop fans get so pressed over dating rumours?

  • 23 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I remember seeing a BTS member posting a photo with a girl and many of the comments said they felt betrayed and they didn't like him anymore. But their are much, much worse ones: The video/post will be like: "idol X and Y have a dating rumour" and the comments will be things like this: . "(e.g)STRAY KIDS NEW MEMBER!" . "Move (e.g) Jungwon, it's my turn!" . "Well she is our girlfriend too!" . "She is now our mummy!" Just admit that you feel betrayed that they have a dating rumour or that they are dating. All the people who don't care if idols date wouldn't even comment on the post/video and would just scroll or click like and move on. It's devastating to see people feel sad that "their" idol is dating. Am I going insane or overthinking this or am I actually right here? submitted by /u/Far-Lab-9945 [link] [comments]

117. Some of these subreddits are so hypocritical

  • 23 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I’ve been having to distance myself from certain K-Pop subreddits because of how embarrassing they are when it comes to not being able to allow certain criticisms. Imagine being mad about someone expressing their views about how the mental health of idols / groups gets neglected & how not holding certain companies accountable for what they do is only gonna make things worse. Like, come on now. It’s like these people only claim to advocate for change once it starts affecting their faves. Be so for real. Insulting someone who’s been a K-Pop fan for over a decade when you’ve been here for like, 5 minutes is wild. Y’all need to grow up & stop letting these companies manipulate you into thinking that they’ve completely changed when that’s just not the case. submitted by /u/GenoveveSimmons15 [link] [comments]

118. Into The Music S9 Episode 34 - Hi-Fi Unicorn's Drip

╔══════════════╗ Hey Everyone, I hope you all had a good week. My Week was pretty good, with a lot of excellent tunes 1that helped move it forward. Before we hop into the episode, I want to let you know that tomorrow, August 24th, I will finally tell you what my summer anthem and summer album were for 2025’s summer. Another thing I’m not going to be doing on today’s episode is reviewing Like 1 by Twice because I’ll be doing an album review of Enemy next week. Now let’s jump into the music and see what the artists delivered this week. ╚══════════════╝ https://preview.redd.it/evukzoyl0tkf1.jpg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2245e243dab579cfdb771c6f0b881552cf864264 Best of the Week :August 18th & August 20th From JOY, with Love - The 1st Mini Album - Joy/laundri - Moon Byul This week was hard to decide as two artists took over my week. Joy was the first artist with her 1st mini album that kept pulling me back. Love Splash is the title track and one I enjoy, but I still find that Get Up and Dance should’ve been the title track. La Vie En Bleu has this Paris vibe that fits wonderfully with the vocals from Joy. The second artist is Moon Byul, who takes over my week with an album that hits as hard as the Joy Record. " Goodbyes and Sad Eyes" is the title track, and although I find the pop-rock vibe generic, as we’ve heard it before. I still enjoy what Moon byul brings to the table with this tune. Da Capo has this melody that reminds me of Legend of Zelda, which keeps me coming back for more. Drip is where Moon byul goes for a boy group sound that fits her perfectly. It was hard to pick which album would take over my week, but I’m glad Joy and Moon Byul both delivered albums that kept pulling me back for more. https://preview.redd.it/td7qbzdu0tkf1.jpg?width=686&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6a5dbc0e2747b2d7f2d5f8cd7729c8a4b8aacd9 ━━━━━━━━☓ ━━━━━━━ Other Korean Releases of the Week: August 20th Dancing Alone (90s Ver.) - KiiiKiii This week, KiiiKiii released a little bit of remixes for their song Dancing Alone, and I decided to talk about the 90s version. The 90s version brings in some synths that blend wonderfully with the vocals. I love how smooth the hook is, as it’s pulled me back for more. I do still like the original version of the song more, but the '90s version might be the best of their version of the track. I still will be coming back to this version from time to time. https://preview.redd.it/33v9oi9b1tkf1.jpg?width=1260&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f54a1adbdf79ee80703fc717355b7a1c7e18fab6 ━━━━━━━━☓ ━━━━━━━ Teenage Blue - Hi-Fi Unicorn Hi-Fi Unicorn is back with a new single album delivering three new tracks. Teenage Blue opens up the single with a fast-paced instrumental. The guitars and percussion fit perfectly together, crafting the overall melody. The vocals fit this rock sound wonderfully, as I’ve been listening to a lot this week. Cotton Candy i the first B-side on the single, which opens up with some synths that help blend with the guitars and percussion. I love the hook as it’s bouncy, and the vocals slay that section. The final song on the single is Backyard High-Five which brings in an acoustic-rock vibe mixed with their usual rock sound. The smooth vocals blend with the instrumental that will have you tapping along. This overall single album from Hi-Fi Unicorn i one that I’ll be having on repeat for a while because the songs are well-crafted and the vocals help elevate the music. https://preview.redd.it/7rj3m0qh1tkf1.jpg?width=2500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=290f3165e4f56c9665c59aae764003f60961e028 ━━━━━━━━☓ ━━━━━━━ Weekly Lastfm Roundup (August 15th - August 20th) Artist: Twice https://preview.redd.it/xjru013o1tkf1.jpg?width=696&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f38193a153de928c627107f3231b614ba97d92cc ━━━━━━━━☓ ━━━━━━━ Album: What Have We Done - pH-1 https://preview.redd.it/4iitgako1tkf1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=392d54de563a9e6e7035ddbdd0794c161d02cac2 ━━━━━━━━☓ ━━━━━━━ Song: Like 1 - Twice https://preview.redd.it/w1hl9hzo1tkf1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=97ff6b254aeab0a9c78ce8e44c3269543540eee3 submitted by /u/Maltifandom23 [link] [comments]
