1.611. Do you have any Senior/Junior Idol "Parallel Pairs" in terms of Skills, Vibes and/or Career Trajectory?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This has been bouncing around my head for a while, so here goes: Do you have any idols you envision taking a similar route to particular already established soloists in the future? Vibes that remind you of them? Similar skill sets? Someone's career trajectory you'd love to see them take? I have 3 parallels my mind always wanders back to: Xiaojun–Jay B; Haechan–Han Seungwoo; Gyehyeon–Baekhyun Xiaojun (NCT/WayV) <–> Jay B (GOT7): Main vocalists with characteristic voices so good people straight up forget they're amazing dancers. High note kings. Xiaojun showed off heart-wrenching ballad skills with Kun, and also easily slayed his parts in more hard-hitting concepts (Regular/Make a Wish) long before he was given more center time, can't wait for him to enter an R&B era. He would 100% pull off the vibe range between Jay B's Cloud Nine and Crash. They incidentally also look a bit similar (XJ, JB, underrated visuals fr). Haechan (NCT) <–> Han Seungwoo (Victon/former X1): Another pair of main vocalists with excellent dance skills, stage presence, (unused rap capability), and high-tone voices that they know how to utilize. Experience in multiple groups. Watching Seungwoo's Sacrifice MV for the first time, it hit me that this style would suit Haechan so well. With his solo debut coming up fast, we'll see what direction he's decided to go for! Gyehyeon (Verivery) <–> Baekhyun (EXO): Here, there's even a Gyehyeon cover of Baekhyun's Bambi. Combined with that how he similarly gets to consistently thrive as a charismatic center in parts of most every Verivery TT (not a given for main vocalists) fully solidifies his potential as a soloist for me. While already a beloved member within EXO, Baekhyun really set himself apart crafting his distinct soloist identity and style, and I could envision similar for Gyehyeon. Jellyfish istg don't mess this up for us, we already saw what you did and didn't do for VIXX. What are your own "parallels"? Do leave a short explanation for each, I'd love to read them. Bonus points if the more junior idol hasn't yet had a proper solo debut, and your vision is mainly based on personal observation/prediction/manifestation. [Very curious for female idol and even mixed gender parallels; now that I think of it, the market may be so saturated with male soloists at times, that female soloists strongly distinguish themselves from their peers in terms of concepts and styles from the start. Might be worth another post ^^] submitted by /u/justcruisingboo [link] [comments]

1.612. Recommend me ridiculous sounding music to stave off the ghosts

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I have a bit of an overactive imagination + insomnia, so at night I unwillingly start wigging myself out, imagining that whatever monster from whatever horror rpg maker games I played 7 years could be real and crawling around outside my bedroom door or something like that, which isn't great. The method that keeps me chill is playing music that sounds so objectively ridiculous I can't make myself scared. It's hard to imagine a skinned creature killing me to death if the soundtrack playing quietly from my phone is some shit like Temporary Secretary(sometimes just the opening instrumental), a loop of parappa the rapper and daffy duck singing about his unfortunate accident, fanmade minecraft songs circa 2014, or literally everything put out by Yuno Miles. I promise that I listen to normal music, but the nonsense lets me fall asleep properly lol. There's also just something compelling to me about ridiculous music that is unabashedly kinda sucks. I do think there are songs that suck in uncompelling ways but I couldn't tell you what the difference is exactly, unfortunately. Anyway I'm getting a little sick of falling asleep to royalty-free clown music and cbat so ONLY with love and whimsy in your heart (no real songbashing or infinite downvotes about seeing a song you like!) send me your recommendations of music you think will be so cinematically unsatisfying as a soundtrack that there's no possible way I could imagine dying to it. A friend sent me NCT Sticker and I think this song will make me invincible submitted by /u/SomeRaceHorseName [link] [comments]

1.614. Katseye and their performance videos

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

So, I came across Katseye during the Gnarly Era and honestly their music never clicked with me- except maybe their debut tracks. I figured it was just a matter of taste and moved on. But I noticed posts about how their stage performance enhances their song experience, hence got curious and tried again. But I couldn't get through them. I felt someway uncomfortable watching their performance( I wish I could put my finger on exactly what felt off). Because of my social media algorithm, it stopped showing me any of their video. But recently, I stumbled upon a reel from their lollapalooza performance and again I felt the same uncomfortable feeling.Never felt the same with anyother kpop group I have come across. It makes me wonder: is it because they are a global group adjacent to kpop, maybe only the training strategy was adopted from kpop. But again they perform in Korean shows (if i am not wrong), so Koreans do accept them. I am not trying to bash them or invalidate what others enjoy, maybe it works for some, that's why the group is a success. And its not been much time since I started exploring kpop. Was just curious if anyone else feels the same? submitted by /u/introvrtedDreamer [link] [comments]

1.615. ILLIT's surprise jpop track release "Topping" is quite the bop

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Notice not too many are talking about it (GLLITs or non-GLLITs outside of ILLIT's sub), but snippets of this track were shown in an ILLIT x Lacoste ad just over a week ago. The full song "Topping" dropped very recently and it's nice light and cute bop. I think it really showcases their vocal colours well in this track. Minju of course sounds amazing, but Iroha and Yunah surprised me on how well they sang on it. Moka sounds cute with the "sugar coating" line repeated on the bridge. It even has a "Tick-Tack" callout (one of their songs). The highlight for me is the catchiness of that chorus. All in all, a very pleasant summery listen and I prefer it to their last jpop track, "Almond Chocolate." submitted by /u/FanCaracal [link] [comments]

1.621. What states do you think certain idols would be from?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

You can do countries if you want I don't know why but I think Taeyong would be from Kentucky and if Jaehyun wasn't basically from Connecticut, he would be from Kentucky. I have a reason for him kinda, so I think he should be a cowboy but he would be like a city cowboy yk he is not truly southern or truly eastern and Kentucky is Literally a Southeast state https://preview.redd.it/v4f8yxlqgbif1.jpg?width=467&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa8ca4619f3b3ba0304c3163f87738a9e8a05010 https://preview.redd.it/jfwuccytgbif1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=61509704c60ff3e23e525d5a7c4776850e2a1cf3 submitted by /u/Mean-Rooster5814 [link] [comments]

1.623. Just watched GO! by CORTIS--My Thoughts So Far

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I want to focus on their whole concept and their sound as an extension of their concept. HYBE is marketing Cortis as an authentic group of teenagers making hiphop. A lot of people are calling them 'cocky teenagers,' but I think simply teenagers/kids is a more fitting word. Overall, I would title their concept: a couple kids with a big budget. I get the kpop audience is a wide ranging one, so your proximity to high school might be very far off and blurry, but as someone who's only a few years removed from high school, they look, sound, and behave like that one group of sophmores-senior boys who think they're really trendy, stylish, and are lowk obsessed with black culture, take that as you might. Anyway. I think their target audience here is not the typical kpop stan, teen/early-adult girl/woman, which is why they're facing a lot of criticism. There's a dissonance between they typical kpop consumer and the targeted audience: teen boys. That's not to say there are no women and girls who consume hiphop, we exist duh, but when launching a musician, the marketing trend rn is relatability sells. My final thoughts on this is I honestly don't know if this is going to work. Again, HYBE is marketing Cortis as an authentic group of kids making hiphop, but can you even really be an authentic hiphop artist if you don't have the support of the black community? If they don't show any sincerity and appreciation for the roots of hiphop (black communities!!!), I think the most success they'd see is headlining HITC one day( infamously used black culture as a stepping stone into the mainstream) or perhaps a public figure similar to Drake, consumed by general audiences, perpetuates antiblackness, doesn't have the support of the culture. OR, they could show genuine appreciation, love, and care for the culture and we might see how it goes from there. Anyway, I will be keeping notes on them as they show more of themselves. submitted by /u/Sellingoldkpopstuff [link] [comments]

1.626. I'm honestly so tired of all the racism against South Korea by International Fans as a Korean person

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Unpopular Opinion because I have never seen this ever expressed by anyone else. Nate Pann and Insitz is not representative of the entire South Korean population. Its really like reading the racist comments under Yahoo News and saying that's what all Americans think. The whole Kpop gossip industry is based on dishonestly mining these two websites for comments and unfairly posting it as "K-netziens say" news and getting hatred towards South Koreans as a whole when many South Koreans don't even post about K-pop. Just because some Korean feminists have very harsh opinions of Korean men and South Korean society does not then give you permission as a non-Korean to use that to be racist to Koreans online under the guise of feminism or being a concerned person. We all know your motivation is less about genuine empathy than doing your 2 minutes of hate against a country you are obsessed with because you watch way too many K-dramas and K-pop. Please ask yourself if I did the same thing with Iranian or African-Americans, where I cherrpicked some Iranian/African-American women online who have issues with Iranian men or African-American men, is it OK for me to then parrot those same comments? I see a lot of MAGA people saying those same things as a justification on why Koreans and Asians should be deported from America and America be a white only country. Ultimately it doesn't matter if your racism comes from a progressive or leftist bent its always gonna align you with the far right. I also think because of a lack of gatekeeping and many english speaking gyopo Koreans bizarrely want to join in on these anti Korean hate trains that we've gotten waaay to lax on what is and what isn't OK to say. STOP IT. submitted by /u/jinusong [link] [comments]

1.627. Songs that idols/groups are probably tired of performing, maybe even vocalized it?

It’s always so interesting and sometimes funny to me when celebrities mention songs they hate performing, or have gotten sick of performing. Whether it’s too difficult to perform or just too repetitive, I can’t blame them. I was wondering if anyone knew any cases like these in K-pop lol tour announcement Fans: I hope they perform [insert song that’s been sung a million times]! The artist probably: oh BROTHER. 🫩 submitted by /u/CeCeAlexus [link] [comments]
