ICONIK opens up the album, bringing in a funky vibe that opens up the album wonderfully for me, as it pulls me right into the project. Dumb might be my favorite song on the album as the group delivers a killer performance. I love the funky-trap vibe that Dumb brought to the table, as I’ve had it on repeat. Star Eyes has this hopeful pop vibe to it that works with the group's sweet vocals. The hook for that song explodes with color, adding to the hopeful vibe. I Know U Know ends the project on a ballad, one that closes out the album perfectly. The group’s overall sound fits perfectly with Jpop. The title track is wonderful as it brings in a funky-pop vibe that feels like an extension of their Korean releases. The hook has been stuck in my head since its release, popping up on my playlist like crazy. The vocals from the members are smooth, perfectly fitting the vibe, making this another excellent track from the group. I’ve always loved the sound Sewoon brings to the table, as I’ve been following him since his debut. This new single has an indie-pop vibe. The vocals fit the instrumental, as I’ve been enjoying what he brought to the table. The hook is something that will be stuck in my head like crazy, as it’s something that can pull the listener. I’ve been loving Gaga’s music she has been putting out this year as it’s been fitting her. Marcus just turned 16 last week btw. I just feel proud as a fan coz though kid has been pursuing his interests as actor, theater actor (lion king musical) to idol (now he’s been into songwriting and producing music)…he’s got a balanced schooling x idol x social life(based from his posts with his circle of friends). Do you think getting into K-pop was inevitable for you if so from what point and why? Or did you get into the sheer chance? I frequently ponder this as a quote stuck with me from ‘Coleydoesthings’ ‘entering the K-pop fandom’ video where she states ‘you either die an anime fan or live long enough to become a K-popper’ For me this ended up true though I would expand the anime part to include the rest of modern East Asian and Thai media as the fandoms have a lot of crossover. Once you get into one at somepoint you try the rest. Participation in multiple of these space creates a greater chance of a crossover event occurring where a piece of media acts as a bridge from one fandom to another. This idea was explored in her ‘Fandom Pipeline’ video which explored the idea of cross fandom transfers on a larger scale. The other aspect of this is traits that lead you to liking certain things and that in addition to whatever the ‘being into fandom’ traits are making you more likely to get into something. For me I had a further 4 susceptibility factors being a fan of amvs / animatics, musicals, being a pop fan already and most importantly being hella gay. These interests made it more likely for me to enjoy K-pop if I got the momentum to try it. The first two opened me to the music performance aspect, the third meant the music would more likely appeal to me and finally being gay made me both open to girl groups but also an easy target of boy groups (as dam the visuals go hard). With all these things I suspected it was a matter of when not if for me to get into K-pop. And so when it finally happened it was because of a musical animated movie with female pop stars and pretty men. The film was an easy watch to enjoy then I started with girls groups but then got locked in by boy groups. I was contemplating whether to post this here, or in r/kpopthoughts. But the more I keep thinking about it, the more I have a feeling its gonna escalate into a rant, cause it's been bothering me for a while. For example, every so often, I would stumble across posts or comments where people would actually try to gatekeep idols or groups, with captions like "Girlgroup XY is for the girls". And of course I know that most of these people don't actually mean it that seriously. But some people do, and those are the people that sometimes make me wanna stop interacting with the community altogether. Like, I had one person tell me in the comments that I'm too old to be a fan of Rosé and that I should rather take care of my wife. Which is funny because first, I'm one year younger than her and second, I have no wife 😂 But I guess because I'm a man, that person thought I should not stan Rosé? Or girlgroups in general. Recently I'm really into Katseye and I literally had people call me a creep for being a fan of them, without me giving them any reason to do so? Like, no inappropriate comments of any kind or anything like that. Those where just a few examples I've experienced over time and I know that this isn't the first post of this kind, but it still kinda bothers me that some people forget that this is about music and unironically try to tell me whom to stan is acceptable based off my gender. Like girl, if you think the only reason why a man would stan a girlgroup is because of some sexually motivated motives, then I am not the problem, you are. this may be controversial, but i’m not trying to come off as cocky i promise nor am i trying to argue with anyone (also don’t mind the grammar english 2nd language 💔) anyways, as a k-pop stan of 10+ years, one thing that has never changed since the days, is other stan’s constantly trying to humble bts. whether it’s trying to downplay their vocals, rap abilities, music quality etc. Now obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinions on their music. If you don’t like their music, that’s okay! But its so strange to see people constantly trying to downplay their abilities or trying to humble them. Like every time i see those “unpopular k-pop opinions” videos or posts, its always someone talking about how Bts don’t have the best vocalists or the best music😭 And its like yall have this weird obsession with trying to humble them. Now im not going to claim that they have the best vocals in the industry, but it’s pretty damn impressive that their vocal line went from having no vocal training and barely any ability - to hitting live high notes and having really good vocals. Idk it’s just weird to constantly push those narratives unprovoked. Idk maybe it’s just me personally, but i never woke up and decided to shit on some random k-pop idols abilities. It lowk gives “hmm lemme find something bad to talk about with Bts!” Like it’s okay to give BTS their flowers when it comes to their abilities, you don’t have to like their music or them as people, but you also don’t have to force the narratives of them not being talented or skilled. Like people forget, they got popular for a reason. I was going through my Spotify playlist when I came across one song, "Perfect Danger" by TNX, and thought that such a great song and such a good EP, "For Real", was not only sadly underrated but also that the group as a whole deserved so much more. TNX, formerly known as The New Six, are a Kpop boygroup that consists of 5 members. Choi Taehun, Jang Hyunsoo, Cheon Junhyeok, Eun Hwi and Oh Sungjun. They debuted in 2022 under PNation and have been through a lot. Not only did the group lose one of the most popular members, Woo Kyungjun, but they also came to be through a survival show "LOUD" (which is also the survival in which several Kickflip members were chosen by JYP) only to be put in another survival, "Road to Kingdom", where they were unjustly eliminated. As a THX, the name of their fans, seeing them right now hurts me a bit. I stopped checking them out a little while after Kyungjun parted ways with the idol life, the fact that he was the one who introduced me to the group hurt and it hurt a lot seeing him leave. However, re-watching LOUD I realized I had never given a real thought to how talented each member was. I would dare say that Hwi is a genius producer and rapper and Junhyeok, Sungjun, Taehun and Hyunsoo do know how to sing but that's not it, not entirely. All of them are so full of passion, it's clear how much effort they always put, and their company, simply put their company is garbage. They don't get nearly enough promotion, they aren't invited to festivals, it seems like there's nothing for them. The company recently debuted a girlgroup and they seem to have forgotten about TNX. Each comeback is more far away from the last one and I can never help but wonder if it's going to be the last one, if I will never hear from them again. I love TNX, and while I never wanted to support a small group because I was afraid of this, of my favorite group disappearing, being forgotten, of them having less views in every post after each comeback, of less people knowing them as time went on, I gave them a try. Because I thought that PNation would promote them, I thought that with all their talent people would listen to them. But it didn't happen, their big moment never seemed to arrive. I don't know how much longer they will last, but I guess what I'm trying to say is, to the people who have read to this point, thank you very much and to anyone who may be interested, please give them a try. They're trying their best and I think their best makes them an amazing group. I love the idea of going to concerts, but I also have a lot of anxiety about attending. This got a lot better after going to my first concert and understanding how it works, but now that I'm going to another the anxiety is creeping back up. I think part of this is due to ADHD hyper fixation as well, and the stress of trying to get merch and waiting in line leading to anxiety, etc. how do you handle it? I look at the merch beforehand and decide what I want to buy and what I don't. But then I get to the concert and suddenly feel like I NEED to get something I originally didn't want. Tldr: ADHD hyperfixation and decision fatigue makes me want to buy merch that I don't really want, leading to lots of stress and concert anxiety.
