So for those who don't know Pentagon's Kino recently released the MV for his new song Club Sex Cigarettes and in the MV he plays the role of a degenerate incel gooner who hates his job. In one scene, his "character" is seen watching a (blurred) porno while eating pizza. Basically, this ended up blowing up with tons of people on Twitter just seeing that one scene and coming to the conclusion that Kino himself is a raging misogynist incel. Now, to anyone who A) is over the age of 14, B) has the slightest shred of media literacy, and C) has watched more than this 5-second clip of the MV, it should be very clear that Kino is not endorsing this behavior, and that the MV is very clearly a commentary framing this in a negative light. But apparently nobody bothered to actually look into it and now Kino has had to release a statement clarifying the message and claiming that he'll change the MV. This is already frustrating as his artistic integrity on a very interesting piece of social commentary has to be compromised due to a lack of media literacy. But on top of that, most people will have only seen the scene itself and other people calling him a misogynist and will probably not see his statement and realize his actual intent. Also, for some reason people are bringing the whole fiasco of Irene and Seulgi's oyster controversy. Which, aside from everyone being completely wrong on the meaning of Kino's MV, should not really be connected to thisi. I do know there's stuff being said on how it was radical feminists who didn't like it – I'm not completely sure tbh and haven't really looked into it, but that aside, even if Kino was a raging pervert, why is the criticism of Irene and Seulgi's controvery being directed at him and not at SM who controlled the whole thing? Once again it feels like fans are more concerned with attacking idols than the companies controlling it all (see: ex-Momoland Daisy controversy, Newjeans/Illit with Hybe/MHJ controversy, etc.). And as someone who ults Pentagon, what really pisses me off is that now most people will be walking away from this thinking that Kino is just a crude incel. Universe isn't really a big fandom that can do much to protect Kino, and also keep in mind that Kino is literally not under a company – he releases through his own one-man NAKED company, so he'll pretty much be controlling the flames alone. Usually, I'm a follower of the "get of Twitter and touch grass" mindset when stuff like this happens, and maybe I'm just biased, but this isn't a fan war as much as a one-sided unjustified attack on Kino. Ultimately, this controversy could end up damaging a smaller idol like Kino's career for zero reason. The nature of social media is that everyone will see the scandal and much less people will see what actually happened. Here, an idol's career could be permanently damaged because of the ignorance and inflammatory nature of Kpop stans. As one final remark, I'm well aware of the dangers of thinking that idols are good people without actually knowing anything about them. But I just want to point out that Kino was one of the few male idols who supported the protests against President Yoon, recommended feminist literature, and told fans to not be restricted by gender norms in clothing. (Shoutout to u/Mundane_Detective_41 on r/kpop for the links). Not to mention that he just released a song commentating on and criticizing (and very much not supporting) misogynist incel gooners. This controversy is leading to a rise in "all Korean men are misogynist bastards" comments, and, although there is seriously a massive problem with misogyny in Korea, the fact that these attacks are directed at someone with a history of supporting feminism for releasing an artistic work commentating on and criticizing said misogynists and are going to hurt him the most genuinely pisses me off. Ironically, I didn't really fuck with the song when I first heard it (it's just not my style of music and that's fine) but now I feel obligated to support it after all this shit. submitted by /u/MelonSoda3 [link] [comments]
I cannot wait to hear this live. submitted by /u/visverus [link] [comments]
I get really down when I see hate on my ult groups (BTS/SKZ/ENHYPEN) and I get REALLY REALLY UP when there's good news or a live or whatever. Like more so than I do in my regular life. So the test got moved to Monday? Yay. We're going to Seattle? Yay 👍. I scored really good on the standardized testing? Yippee... NAMJOON WENT LIVE? DIWFUHIRQHEHKHKREYOOOOOOOOOOOO You know what I mean? I've got posters and things and about $200 worth of albums, and I've only been stanning for a year. It's not taking over my life, my screen time is still low and I spend time on many things other than K-pop related stuff. It's just the only thing that makes me super happy anymore. Anyone relate? submitted by /u/possibleoutcast_ [link] [comments]

They are still (or come across) way younger than a group like Katseye. The cutesy teen Disney music WAS working for them. Girls of the Year, Youniverse and even Only One seemed to hit a certain audience and they had a ton of momentum. Commas has flopped. It seemed the decision to move in a different direction came to separate them from the past controversies, BUT that's not a good reason when they already had a pop sound working extremely well. submitted by /u/RedditFan3510 [link] [comments]
