313. Revisiting parasocial dynamics in Kpop: why the term needs to stay

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

A little while ago, I shared a post in another space about how parasocial boundaries in Enhypen's fandom are being crossed, and how overprotectiveness and silencing honest opinions make this space harder to enjoy. One reply stuck with me: someone said they wished the word parasocial would be taken out of Kpop stans’ vocabulary altogether. I get that it can feel like a buzzword, but parasocial relationships are a well-established psychological concept describing one-sided emotional bonds fans develop with idols. In Kpop, where idols share so much online, through livestreams, variety shows, and personal social media, fans can feel like they really know the members. It's all about selling that image, after all. That’s why some fans get deeply hurt over rumors, or feel entitled to defend idols aggressively against any criticism, or act like they’re part of idols’ personal lives. When fans comment on private matters, speculate about relationships with staff, or react like family members, that’s parasocial dynamics in action. Trying to dismiss or erase the term doesn’t make the phenomenon go away. In fact, understanding parasocial relationships is crucial if we want to set healthier boundaries, avoid toxic fan behaviors, and keep fandom spaces welcoming. So yeah, the term parasocial isn’t going anywhere, and that’s a good thing. submitted by /u/Odd-Cat02 [link] [comments]

314. I just teared up listening to Wanna Be

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

While doing things, I was listening to music, and suddenly a song I loved but hadn't heard in a while came on. I felt nostalgic and missed them. I watched all the shows that aired, rejoiced, and cried when the group formed; several of the ones I liked ended up in the group. And I guess, without realizing it, the memories flooded back, and a tear fell. I don't even watch these shows anymore; the last one I watched was the X1 formation show, and the group had barely debuted, but whatever. Those who lived through that era will surely remember the madness that was Wanna One. submitted by /u/Separate-Comedian-25 [link] [comments]

316. Bigbang fans, how do you explain G-dragon's ot5 behavior?

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm not a vip or anything so i can't really tell what he is up to of if he likes ANYTHING, but from what i see he likes a lot of posts where Bigbang is a 5 member group, he literally went to Seungri's party meeting him, he even unliked the video that was dissing Seungri. Let's avoid everything, why would he go meet him? Explain please. submitted by /u/tbaeist [link] [comments]

317. What does this lyric from Pretty Savage mean?

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

'Even if it’s embarrassing, If I spread it out, you’ll put it on' Maybe it's a translation issue, but it comes across as clunky and nonsensical. What does it mean? submitted by /u/CrimsonBlade2018 [link] [comments]

318. Would Naevis be popular if SM made her/ marketed her like Hatsune Miku?

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I dislike SM so much because they're so creative and unique but then they just fizzle out. Naevis is supposed to be an AI idol I think as far form what I know. When Naevis launched they were too reliant on generative ai for almost everything, when actual human artists can do a much better job. Even the song is so bad, lyrics total garbage. I wonder if Naevis was marketed like Miku would this change things? They also keep changing her features so that's annoying as heck. Just want to know your thoughts and would there be a market like this in Kpop if SM didn't suck. submitted by /u/TheLastPetal65 [link] [comments]

319. My 4 year old daughter is in love with k-pop

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

As the title says, my 4 year old loves k-pop and is obsessed with the song Fry’s Dream by AKMU. She doesn’t know the lyrics, she just kind of sings gibberish. Is her singing gibberish rude? Should I try to learn and then teach her the real lyrics?? This probably sounds like a crazy thing to ask, but we are a very white family and I don’t want us to seem rude or insensitive submitted by /u/ADangMoose [link] [comments]

320. SNEAKERS by ITZY is a pretty good song.

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Unpopular opinion - I know a lot of people think that SNEAKERS is bad song, but I think it's pretty good I like the melody and it's catchy. Well I wouldn't say it's like shocking or mind blowing type of song, but it isn't bad. I wouldn't say it's their worst song, that ruined their careers. Currently, to be honest, I would say I'm not a big fan of girls to be girls, it could've been better. WANNABE is their best song in my opinion and I hope they will do a similar song vibe like this, also Imaginary Friend is also their best songs. Anyways, SNEAKERS is a good song. Comment your thoughts below! BE NICE PLEASE! :D submitted by /u/SatisfactionAdept548 [link] [comments]

321. The hate for BTS... people really forgot they're human

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The hate for BTS is getting honestly disgusting. It makes me sick to see the all the dehumanizing stuff. Especially with what j-hope is getting right now because he attended a concert he was invited to, how is that normal? People calling him names, horse, even rapist. Really? And I cant even ignore it. Everywhere I go on social media, same comments, same fandom behind it.. What's even the point? Hate affects people. Idk how BTS deals with it.And yes, Army can be toxic to. But it's just saaaad submitted by /u/cLyNeSnOw [link] [comments]

323. I realized that every big 4 (big 3) entertainment company has had a group that ruled a kpop generation

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I noticed recently that every big 4 (even though I don't really consider hybe big 4) had or has a group that really was considered the most popular or influential of that respective generation. For 1st gen, I'd say SM had the most influential and popular group, that being H.O.T. They were the first kpop group to really make it big in my opinion. They had a fanbase, good members and honestly talent. I still find myself going back to H.O.T songs often. For 2nd gen, it was YG, with BIGBANG. They really made 1st place for me in 2nd gen, and I'm not even a hardcore listener. I was listening to BANG BANG BANG on Just Dance with my brother before I even knew what kpop was. And to top it off with them having the first kpop lightstick. For 3rd gen, it's HYBE, with obviously BTS. Not a lot of explanation needed for this one. The moment I say I like kpop, a local will assume it's BTS. That's how worldwide they are! I'm a gg stan so I've actually never stanned bts, but somehow I know all the members and can tell them apart ☠️ For 4th gen, it's JYP. Again, I'm not a bg stan but I do know that Stray Kids is big. I like their sound and concept, but i do know that some people are still torn on who's 4th gen leader. I just know they really made it big in their generation. thats it lmao tell me what you think submitted by /u/zyannasdreams [link] [comments]

324. Finally watched KPOP demon hunters

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

And it was so good!! Omg i didn't expect it to like it so much, bc honestly, as a 25 year old semi-casual listener i didn't really think I was the main target audience of the movie lmao but it was so much fun! It was very on the nose but in the best way possibe! Like the name is literally kpop demon hunters hahahahha the writers knew exactly what they were doing! I normally dont really care for hapyy sappy endings (example I LOOOVE avatar but i HATE the kataraXaang ending so much) but [SPOILER!!] i lowkey wished rumi and jinu ended up together 🥹 Also i nearly cried when they started singing This is what it sounds like together 🥹😭 Anywayss just wanted to share this hahaha Ooh edit to add: the only thing they really missed out on were fanchants! Bc that's how you really feel the power of fans! it would've been so cool if they incorporated that into the story or concert scenes! What did you guys think of the movie?? submitted by /u/thecatiswise [link] [comments]

325. The hate for Blackpink… people really forgot they’re human.

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The hate Blackpink is getting is honestly disgusting. Criticism is fine, but this has gone way beyond that. As a woman, it makes me sick to see the casual slut-shaming, name-calling, and all the dehumanizing stuff. And the hate they’re getting right now just because J-Hope went to their concert? How is that normal? People saying he was bored, forced, judging them, left because it was a mess… Really ? Jennie getting called all kinds of names over a video where she’s fixing her outfit. What’s even the point? Hate affects people. Idk how Blackpink deals with it… or maybe they just deleted social media atp. And I can’t even ignore it. Everywhere I go on social media, same comments, same fandoms behind it. Before anyone starts, yes, Blinks can be toxic too, people online are just getting meaner in general. It’s sad. submitted by /u/Frdmpm [link] [comments]

326. What kind of comments do you always downvote?

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Downvoting and how recklessly people do it is often discussed on this site, often as a way to express how biased a sub is. Completely normal, inoffensive comments get downvoted regularly while other more questionable comments don't always get the same treatment. So I'm asking, what to you is a good reason to downvote someone? There are obvious things like weirdly bitter and often hateful posts/comments. I make it a point to downvote misinformation. Lies spread so easily online, and are easy to use as fuel for hate trains. So if I see someone spouting false information, I downvote, and if I have the source on hand to prove them wrong, I comment it as well. I also downvote the low quality bait content. submitted by /u/SageSageofSages [link] [comments]

327. wonyoung is everywhere and not in a brand sense

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I am a dive, I love ive so much. I am also a multi stan. I don't stan anyone particular in the group. Recently I noticed that wonyoung is everywhere. Her face and voice but not on a brand sense where you step outside and you see a billboard. No like, you step outside and see her clone sense. I was on TikTok and I just kept seeing some western influencers just looked like wonyoung. There is this one black girl I saw on red note and she looked like the black version of wonyoung. And then honestly I thought it was a bit mean but there was this girl replicating wonyoung voice the 'california, California?' and not gonna lie. It was kinda acurate. Scrolling on red note you might come across a bunch of wonyoung look alikes and sometimes there not even trying. It's just how they look. Even just regular tiktok. Or at least the side I am on. Now my sister was watching katseye's ost song I think it was called timelaspe. But she kept noticing how yoonchae, sounded like wonyoung. And I'm sorry, please die hard wonyoung stans don't kill me. But wonyoung fakes her voice, she has a naturally deeper voice. And her voice is kinda fake, and to some people her voice to them is their normal voice. My sister was saying how wonyoung is duplicatable. Because (let's not lie she has got some stuff done. Other than naturally losing weight) but her makeup and face is duplicatable. Not her aura but face. And her voice. Maybe it's just me. But it's the same way I notice how more western singers sound like Ariana grande but that might be just me. I mean so many idols got bashed for trying to 'look like wonyoung' like I think Minnie and maybe someone from aespa I forget who. I think ningning. But it's crazy submitted by /u/_Boreddd_ [link] [comments]

329. I do not care if Taemin did anything to his nose or not.

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

disclaimer: even if he is my ult bias this is how i feel for idols in general. Under a tiktok post, people were complaining that Taemin’s nose has changed and people were just sending hate. I commented how i think that this is a non-issue and it happens alot in the industry and people were disagreeing with me?? Majority of K-pop idols have gotten any cosmetic surgery and it’s extremely normalized in Korea. Who knows if the company forced him or he did it himself? Some people said that it wasn’t a rhinoplasty but something else. Either way people pick on some specific idols for surgery and now Taemin 😭. (This is my opinion okay) submitted by /u/hyunjinstraykids [link] [comments]

330. How Fandoms Fight Each Other To Death When Their Own Idols Support Each Other Never Fail To Baffle Me.

  • 2 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Loving all the BTS and Blackpink interactions this year as an ArmyBlink, even if they're just small moments. It's kind of surprising how the two biggest groups have never done a collab or really interacted, especially since that's so common in other industries. Really hoping Blackpink shows up at BTS’s tour too! 🤞 I’m not saying you have to love or care about everyone your favorites are associated with, but it costs nothing to be respectful. There’s no need to leave hateful or distasteful comments, especially when it’s directed at people who don’t even know you. submitted by /u/Acrobatic_Article406 [link] [comments]
