After the controversy of Gaeun being SAd by 143 Entertainment's CEO back in 2024, and Suhye being on hiatus since May 2025 (And the company had the audacity to delete her hiatus statement), I’m worried for Yeseo. She literally disappeared for such a long time. The last post on her Instagram was on May 27th of this year, three months ago. Yeseo was recently seen at a birthday cafe with no managers, but with her mother. I think they're erasing her like they did to Gaeun and Suhye. Sit with me for a moment, if you will. So I'm making my way around the house, doing some chores and threw on one of my favourite reactions and let him play as I did this and that and he got onto BTS because of that collab Hobi did with like Pharrell and Don (he's a Don Toliver fan so he listened to it as a Don fan) then ARMY expectedly put him on J-hope and BTS and the rest is history. Now, he had the making of a kpop fan in general because after going through BTS' entire discography (can you imagine?) he started branching out to other groups, and right now I'm listening to him because put on stray kids. Coincidentally enough, everyone he's checked out so far has been an artist I listen to. Anywho, it always bothered me when people said, "I miss old __", especially for BTS. Look, I'm an ARMY, among other things, and not only was BTS the first group I discovered and stanned, they are also who got me into kpop. Granted, I found them at a time that was a transitional period, so I've been a fan long enough to have seen chapter close but mostly loved through chapter two, but even before that, people would say, "I miss the old BTS", "they're not the same after __" era, "they've changed," this and that, and I never understood it because I wholeheartedly believe that they're the same at the core. BTS never were about a specific sound, they've always been about the moment—they talk about whatever period of their life they are in, and even though they've ventured into and explored a lot of other genres, they remain hip-hop at their core, especially the rappers, so while I understand having a preference for a certain sound of theirs, saying they've changed just isn't something i can agree with, so i believe you can understand the hypocrisy i feel with Stray Kids. Stray kids were th second group I ever stanned, so they have a special place in my heart, and I adore the members to bits and wish them nothing but good health and success, but I've drifted away their music and it bothers me. I know you'll say it's natural as taste grows and changes, but idk, it feels different. There's many other groups I got into early on that I don't really listen to much, but the difference is that they were groups I was trying out before I found the sound I liked, stray kids are a group I stuck with for tears, only to drift away more recently ans I've been wondering why, and then I came to somewhat of an epiphany. As stated, I was watching him react to stray kids for the first time and one of the songs he was recommended was double knot and I realised, "wow. I haven't listened to this song in quite a while", and it went stupid because it's a hard track. That's when I realised that your music has a different flavour when you're chasing after something as opposed to when you finally get it. Stray Kids' music, at it's core, is still the same, at least production wise, but since they reached their peak (and keep soaring to even greater heights), it feels like...how do I put this? It feels like there's only so much you can do while at the top, and once you exhaust those options, you kinda start to circle around the same thing. Now, don't start telling telling me about, "they have sentimental songs", sentiment isn't what I'm talking about, it's message overall. Music is subjective of course, so my palate might just not be suited to their newer stuff, and that's okay, but I like to think I can objective enough about music to look for pattern and reason and, I don't know, I just don't. The last album, in my opinion, that truly felt novel was perhaps ODDINARY, maybe even 5 star, though that was the first album that had to grow on me. ATE kinda made its comeback but then...That's not to shade the boys, their music is still good, and they're growing even bigger, gaining even more accolades and recognition and doing crazy on the charts, but the flavour's a bit...different. Now, I'm not trying to start anything, and I'm especially not trying to make this a this vs that kinda thing, I'm genuinely just trying to understand, and would love to hear unbiased insights on this. I'm still a stay, always will be, so I don't wanna hear, "go listen to someone else then", or "then listen to their older stuff", I'm genuinely trying to understand and see what others think about this because i feel like it's a phenomenon almost, and this can be applied to any group, just as i gave BTS as an example. Heck, I've heard before saying TXT peaked at Minisode 2: Thursday's Child, or Enhypen at Dark Blood, or even Ateez at The World EP. Just an observation. I really feel like Chaeyoung of TWICE has daddy issues. Both of her (rumored ex tattoo artist) and (somehow current) boyfriends are known to be way older than her - big age gap. Of all TWICE members, her dad is the only one that we know literally nothing about. No photos and as far as I know, she never mentioned anything about him too ever since her pre-debut days up to now. Jeongyeon and Tzuyu's dads might be low-key and rarely seen in photos but maybe that's just attributable to them having high profiles - which we already know. And one thing I've observed with problematic male Korean stars is that they all look harmless(?). Her current guy seems fun and harmless but we'll never know. With the latest EXO comeback announcement, I can't help but think about how the market feels super saturated and newer groups don't get much chance to shine. Red Velvet is rumored to be making a comeback. BTS have all finished their military service, while during their hiatus, their solo careers are really taking off. Blackpink's members' solo careers are really taking off, while as a group, even though they don't release much music, is currently on a successful tour and had a successful release. TWICE is still conducting activities as a traditional group, with solo and sub-unit activities here and there, and they don't seem to be losing steam any time soon, with a world tourz new career-highs in international charts and their first major US Music Festival performance. Seventeen is also at the top of their game with major festival performances and record-breaking album sales. 4th gen are still very active and successful, and even though some, like NewJeans have disappeared due to controversies and some are not exactly in the spotlight anymore, they are still considered trendy right now, although most haven't been able to reach the same international fame as BTS and Blackpink did back in 2019-2020. How about the 5th gen? They are making music and there are great excitement for them, but I can't help but think that they have so much competition, not just from their peers, but from their seniors as well. So it really came across my mind recently that the gaps between Kpop "generations" have gotten shorter, and at the same time, the older groups are still active and some are still going really strong, because they were able to successfully grasp the market outside South Korea. When 3rd gen debuted, most of the 2nd gen groups have lost steam due to failed contract renewals, controversies, and hiatuses. 1st gen was practically non-existent. Of course, the international market for K-Pop is much bigger right now, but the market is still saturated, and I think many people share the same sentiment as I do. What do you think? What are the reasons "Golden", a song from the Netflix movie "Kpop Demon Hunters" is now the trend for all singers to attempt? I know this is a catchy song, it's wild and high but I don't know why it has suddenly became a trend for all popular singers to sing it? this is quite hilarious, since original post was gonna be about how cool it would be to have a co-ed kpop group. then, i did some research and found out that KARD literally exists i really want to know what its like to stan a co-ed group. although im relatively new to kpop, ive seen the way fandoms can behave when it comes to girl groups and boy groups. if its so chaotic within the fandom on just one gender, i cant imagine what its like with both. to my knowledge, co-ed groups are a lot less common in recent times, and definitely not as popular. this brings me back to my original question: do u think its still possible for mainstream agencies to debut one ? i know its pretty much impossible, but just for fun, imagine one of the big companies debuted a mainstream, co-ed group. or, heck, merged a boy group and girl group together. that would shake the entire industry lol submitted by /u/Snoo17824 [link] [comments]

I don’t think what I’m saying is the most surprising thing in the world, but after the VMAs it feels like it has been shown once again. Just to be clear, this isn’t how I personally feel about it, but more what I’ve noticed. The awards that were considered “K-pop related” didn’t actually feel very Korean anymore. Rosé’s APT is an English song featuring Bruno Mars, a major Western artist. Born Again won Best K-pop despite not having a single Korean word in it and being a collaboration with two American artists. And KATSEYE, which won Best Push, comes from a K-pop label but is clearly promoted as a global group without Korean as its base. It feels like a sad reality, but the Western market will always prefer English. BTS, no matter how huge they were before, only started getting consistent radio play with Dynamite, their first fully English single. Cupid by Fifty Fifty also only broke into Western radio with its English version. And more and more K-pop tracks are now 50–75% English, with just a few Korean words sprinkled in. But this isn’t only a “Korean language” problem. Take Dutch, for example (gekoloniseerd). In the Netherlands or Belgium, Dutch music gets radio play, but outside of Dutch-speaking countries, how many people know a Dutch song? Probably almost none. That doesn’t mean Dutch music is automatically bad (even if some of it is), it’s just because Dutch is not a globally “popular” language. When I say “popular,” I mean languages like English, Spanish, and French. And even French often falls out of favor compared to English. i really dislike how overused the term “kpop” is in generalising everything. i also know there‘s been lots of discourse about kpop’s “issue” with being too westernised ie. incorporating english tracks or pushing out english albums. this may come off unpopular, but personally i dont see it as too big of an issue whether or not an artist is singing in english or korean. call it cliche, but i believe music transcends language, and i thought this has already been established when the language barriers were long broken when kpop rose to popularity. if the musics good, its good. point is, if a korean artist (notice how i did not say kpop artist) were to push out an album in full english, why is it that it would still fall under the branch of “kpop”. to my knowledge, kpop is culturally significant to korea, and comes with its own set of genres. just because its a korean artist, it is limited to kpop ? even if theyre pushing out tracks with no korean ? my issue with this is that you dont see this happening anywhere else. if a chinese artist sang in english, would it be considered cpop then ? following this logic, only westerners can make “global” music ? this prompt isnt to ignite discussion over the right or wrongs of whether kpop groups should be “westernised”. rather, id like to hear people’s thoughts on korean music being labelled consistently as just kpop, when in fact these artists have been singing in english, collaborating with western artists and dominating western billboards submitted by /u/Snoo17824 [link] [comments]
