2.113. When some K-pop fans prefer the old songs or concepts of a group, it might not be about the quality being better, but more about emotional attachment—similar to what Chappell Roan calls “Demoitis.”

In a recent interview, Chappell Roan coined the term “Demoitis”—a phenomenon where fans grow emotionally attached to the raw, early demo versions of a song and then struggle to embrace the final, polished release. It’s not necessarily that the studio version is objectively worse, but rather that listeners have already formed a deep personal connection with the earlier version. This made me think—what if something similar is happening in K-pop, not exactly with demos, but with eras, concepts, or genres? I’ve seen so many fans say that a group’s older songs or concepts were better. But what if it’s not really about the quality? What if fans are just attached to those old songs and eras because they were very sentimental to them? K-pop stans tend to be very emotionally attached to their groups. So when the group changes their sound, style, or concept, some fans might feel disconnected—not because the new stuff is bad, but because they miss the version of the group they first fell in love with. It’s kind of like Demoitis, but for eras and concepts. So maybe when fans say, “I liked their old stuff better,” it's not always about the music itself. Maybe it's more about holding on to something that felt special to them. submitted by /u/why_dmn [link] [comments]

2.115. Not the mic drop Liz was hoping for

At KCON LA, IVE was performing Rebel Heart when Yujin accidentally knocks Liz’s mic out of her hand. Cue the slow motion: “Nooooo…” 😂 Even more impressive than the mortified look insta-meme in Liz, Yujin, and Wonyoung’s faces was their composure and recovery to finish the song. True professionals at the top of their game. Great performance, and yes, the mics are live! submitted by /u/djmonstermo [link] [comments]

2.116. Why 2nd Gen fans restrict themselves into liking new kpop groups?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Most of my kpop friends have stopped liking kpop years ago because the groups didnt feel the same nowdays (to them). Every time I bring up the arguement that music has just evolved, they seem to not agree and end up listening to the same music from the 10s. I absolutely love girl groups today as I've become adjusted to their new styles. But, does it happen to other 2nd gen fans? Is it just a personal matter? Are there any other 2nd gen fans out there still adjusting to todays kpop? submitted by /u/momokox359 [link] [comments]

2.122. Is boys planet 2 is being too strict on Chinese trainees

I have been watching boys planet 2 for a while now but I didn’t watch the first season so Idk it was the same or not But judging by every episode I can see some strictness and they’re a bit biased towards the k trainees that’s what I was thinking watching every episode . The way they were talking and correcting were too harsh they were demotivating them I saw a lot difference in judging the performances too Am I the only one who thought about that ? submitted by /u/foxystar34 [link] [comments]

2.130. Stunner - TEN appreciation post

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I fear I am obsessed with stunner and it is my life track now I was waiting for Ten and Mark’s album, as was every nctzen. Being mark biased I waited for mark like crazy. But then Ten releases Bambola. I realise I have been sleeping on this og-neo. You see I recently accepted nct’s influence on my life so I still am not so accustomed to nct. It was the last day of my high school boards (I live in India). The teaser SM released left a bad taste in my mouth. The whispering gave a completely different vibe. I thought the song would be a sensual whisper filled track. I rushed home and tuned in the steaming live. I was pleasantly surprised. My jaw was wide open. Ten had successfully exceeded my expectations. This song was nothing like I thought but I liked it. From the moment this was released I have this song on repeat. While travelling every single day I listen to this and I cannot get tired of this. The producers and composers cooked hard with this. First of all, Ten has this kind of pre puberty voice but his voice is very “full” and “complete”. It’s as if it’s an adult singing but with a child’s voice. His voice isn’t scratchy or something which is a friction to a song listening experience, it’s very easy to listen to. He has a wide range which his voice supports and complements. He pronounces every word to the very end. This makes the song feel complete. I finally understand why he was the Sub Vocal in SuperM. Secondly the layering of the vocals. Please, every single time I listen to this I hear another vocal run and I’m surprised. All these high pitched sounds DO NOT sound irritating AT ALL (unlike other songs). All the gun and spring and jaltarang (water in glass bowls/mugs struck with some rod) sounds make this such an intelligent song. The raps, the verses, the conclusion everything is PERFECT. I repeat, PERFECT. Nothing can be added or removed to make this better, this is the best version which can be. This song is just perfect. For every song I have at least one pet peeve but NOT THIS ONE. From the start to the end I love this track. Ten must have insane communication prowess. He’s a foreigner and still he is not discriminated against fully? He is so damn talented that SM *has* to give him something. He’s releasing songs in Chinese, Korean, English AND Japanese? And he’s doing well in all of them? His English sounds so natural I did NOT know he did not spend his childhood in America. He’s so hard working in this aspect. Plus he looks good. He’s a visual through and through. His poses just come naturally. He’s a great dancer and his facial expressions are on point. He is a great performer too! And he has cats. This does not need elaborating. I will be over the moon if he starts writing songs too. I do NOT expect him to do so, he’s doing enough but if he does, he will be the best idol ever born in my eyes.
