I don’t know, this randomly popped in my head: if you and your friend group were in a kpop group, what would be your role? I’m the only one who really dances in my friend group, and I’ve been dancing since I was 3, so I think I’d be the main/lead dancer. And maybe visual? It sounds weird to say that, because I don’t think I’m better looking than the rest of them, but I care more about appearance and looks than the rest of my friends. I looked up the definition of a visual in kpop just to make sure. Which is, “the member of a group who is considered to best fit the prevailing Korean beauty standards, often embodying a specific look that is highly valued in Korean culture”(google). I only have one friend in my friend group who is Korean, but she’s not the performing type at all. Imagining her performing does not at all work inside my head. It’s not that she’s bad, it’s just not her thing. But, I’m not Korean, I’m an American. And I think I fit the “beauty standards” or “beauty stereotypes” in America. Sorry for explaining so much. I just don’t want to seem full of myself. But yeah, what position/s would you have? (Also, I’m still kind of new to Kpop, so if I got anything wrong, please let me know. Thanks!) submitted by /u/dancing_hpfan [link] [comments]
I think seventeen will win album of the year for spill the feels but I think it’s possible stray kids Karma could win. 60% is based on sales and streams and 40% is based on judges. I think sales and streams are similar, but seventeens are a little higher (I am not confident about my numbers). So arguably judges can say it’s not fair to compare 5 weeks of sales and streams for karma against a full year of sales and streams for STF and will therefore award it to karma which had higher numbers for the first 5 weeks alone. I assume they are both options for artist of the year too, but there are lots of other options. submitted by /u/Hopeful_Shelter_443 [link] [comments]
I have always found kazuha to be extremely pretty but I think she is rarely brought up in the 4th gen visual conversation but I think I know why after seeing these. She looks like she fits in a period piece. Stunning, elegance really is her thing. submitted by /u/Additional-Buy-5663 [link] [comments]
We’re conducting a research study about Korean media fans of color. If you consider yourself a fan, not just someone who watches every now and then, but someone really into K-pop, dramas or any other pop culture; you’re either Asian, Black, or Latine; you’re 18 or older; and you live in the U.S. or Canada, we’d really like to have a Zoom interview you. You can expect that the interview will last about an hour to an hour-and-a-half. Your interview will help us learn more about both fans of color and fans of East Asian popular culture. Currently, there are no academic books about fans of East Asian popular culture, and there is only one book about fans of color of any media! Your interview would help us as we put together a book about Korean media fans of color. For more information, contact David Oh ([dcoh@syr.edu](mailto:dcoh@syr.edu)) or Min Joo Lee ([mlee4@oxy.edu](mailto:mlee4@oxy.edu)). Please note that Zoom interviews have to be recorded in order for them to be transcribed (writing out the responses). The recordings will be deleted as soon as the transcripts are created, and they will be confidential – never shared or shown). submitted by /u/KindReality [link] [comments]
I’m taking a gender studies class and want to write about sexism in the kpop industry. What do you guys think are examples of sexism in kpop? Either specific examples or just broad issues in the industry itself. What are some issues that women in kpop have to deal with but men don’t (or vice versa, I suppose)? submitted by /u/eveningsnewestetoile [link] [comments]
Idols are beautiful with or without makeup, but I almost never see pics without makeup. These are photos of Oneus from when Seoho enlisted this year. submitted by /u/Funwithnugukpop [link] [comments]
...which isn't a lot but its weird that it happened twice. Jongin didnt create the name Kai and its not exclusive. If anything he's the last one to be called kai, since Hueningkai and now Kai from Yuhz were born before he debuted. There are like 25 Jaehyuns and nobody is attacking the other Jaehyuns for their parents choosing the name Jaehyun. Its extremely embarassing for fans of one of the biggest and most established groups out there to be sending hate to literal teenager because their BIRTH name is the same as his STAGE name. If yall want to be mad at someone for his name not being exclusive, be mad at him for picking a common name as his stage name and then be mad at SM for trademarking a real name (Not that that has any value whatsoever). submitted by /u/icouto [link] [comments]

So I made a post a while ago about how outrageous the ticket prices were for these groups. Well, it seems like their organizers have finally come to their senses and started doing random sales. I know TXT already did a sale for the American leg of their tour, but I just found out P1Harmony is doing a 38% off sale for Jiung’s birthday ( with the funniest girl math explanation I’ve ever seen )😭 Anyway, just putting this out there in case anyone’s free and wants to check their concert dates. P1Harmony concerts are a whole vibe, and I’m saying this as someone who’s been into K-pop for 15 years. You won’t regret seeing them live! Discount: 38% off → “Girl math” explanation: 38% = 3(2+0+0+1) + 8(1+0+0+7) 😆 Code: JGHBD → Use this code on Ticketmaster to unlock the offer Sale period: 🗓️ October 4 (12 PM) → October 7 (11:59 PM) (local time) (P.s. Fnc u better pay me for promoting ur group like this) submitted by /u/Over_Length_440 [link] [comments]
This is not assuming no one's sexuality nor gender, don't take it personal, just saying. KEY - SHINEE now let's be for real. He's the most gay man I've seen in kpop. And it's not the kinda gay of 'oh i like my teamates', which makes it more real. WUMUTI - XLOV sexual orientation appart, he is so gender queer coded and almost uncloseted. Like, mother? HANBIN - ZB1 zb1 can't be real 😭 it's the queer paradise. Even if we ignore his career, his predebut CAN'T lie. The tutting, the wacking, girl? ZHANG HAO - ZB1 the same i said of hanbin. It's just it. Tell me if you want more cuz i could be talking about this eternally. submitted by /u/Taem09 [link] [comments]

Apparently they are going to be performing three times in the country, twice in Kaohsiung next month and once in Taipei next year. (Being able to read Chinese helps massively, since Chinese Wikipedia is way more up to date then English Wikipedia) And yes, it's almost entirely due to Tzuyu returning back to her home. I'm sitting here just thinking about whether she will get to do a special segment for local fans - maybe a longer solo performance with exclusive songs or covers. But perhaps nothing will be changed, since JYP doesn't want to suffer anymore geopolitical repercussions. It's been a decade since the infamous flag incident, and frankly I will not be surprised if Taiwanese people come out in full force to throw their support behind her, whether they are K-Pop fans or not. (And I am not even a massive K-Pop stan, more like a part-time K-Pop fan) submitted by /u/RandomCarGuy26 [link] [comments]
To start with: A DISCLAIMER✨ I know not a lot of people know them, and I’m not here to hype them up. I just genuinely want to hear honest, technical opinions about their vocals from anyone who can provide it—fans, non-fans, casual listeners, or trained ears. I’m so sorry for posting this here, but I really want to hear from general K-pop fans. I can’t post this in a dedicated AHOF subreddit because it would just be full of praise, and as a fan myself, of course I’ll listen to it—but I want to know how they’re really doing. Okay, real talk: I love the group, but I don’t want fan fluff or stan comments. I’m looking for a serious, technical, brutal vocal analysis—range, tone, control, mix, resonance, everything. Honestly, no one has done this properly, and even I can’t judge some parts objectively. Here’s what I hear from my ears (totally subjective, not perfect): Han – Wide range, powerful, and solid. I often hear (and agree as an EXO fan) that he has a Baekhyun-like tone. Huge compliment, but I want to know what he still needs to improve. For me, he combines Baekhyun’s tone with DK-level power (hehe, biased, yes). His voice is deep but can reach high notes while remaining solid. Still a long way to go to fully match their level. Samples: UL Signal Song BTS, Make up Room Practice, All UL Parts, Fancam Video HAN THE JUKEBOX, UN VILLAGE Steven – Has a lot of potential, but something feels like it’s missing. I feel he would really shine on light English song covers. (can't find raws sorry) JL – More of a flair vocalist. If Han provides a solid foundation, JL plays along and elevates it. Some fans say he sounds like Kyungsoo—respectfully, I disagree (Ksoo is my ultimate vocalist). JL is good on his own, but he isn’t Kyungsoo. Here’s a JL's growl sample of his that shows a raw side of his voice. Samples: raw vocal clips, Like this best!. 1st Encore (the show), 3rd Encore (Music Bank) Woongki – Highlighted as a vocalist, but I don’t notice him as much. Seems soft but clean-toned. Still good, but not my style. Would love to hear others’ thoughts. (can't find raws sorry) Jeongwoo & Shuaibo – Deep voices. I think they need more training but have huge potential. I’m excited to hear cleaner, more confident vocals in the future—especially longer parts for YK. (can't find raws sorry) I’m posting this because I genuinely want trained ears or anyone who understands vocals to break it down. Clips or timestamps would be amazing—for example, “1:24–1:45 in this performance shows chest-dominant mix but weak breath support.” That kind of honest, technical insight is exactly what I’m looking for. Tho, if you are just a general kpop fan and happen to know them, your thoughts about them will be very much appreciated. Brutal honesty only—no sugarcoating. I want the full picture: strengths, weaknesses, everything. If anyone’s willing to dissect AHOF’s vocals like a pro, your input would be legendary. Seriously, I’ll be taking notes. Thank youu sm to those who would share their constructive insights! submitted by /u/CitySquare132 [link] [comments]
My daughter and I just attended our very first live concert together with TWICE! I’ve been an ONCE since 2015, following them since their Sixteen era. TWICE has been one of the reasons I endured various chapters of my life—college, career, and even motherhood. Moving forward, I had my daughter in 2018. Even while I was pregnant, I became more fond of TWICE to the point that I almost named her Mina. When she was born, I never stopped living my ONCE life and I even influenced her! I’m not exaggerating, but when she was little, her first favorite song was “Cheer Up.” Instead of saying “Mama” as her first word, her first phrase was “shy, shy, shy” lol. Growing up, she listened to TWICE’s songs, and we often watched their reality shows together. In 2023, I attended their concert alone. I remember how she cried because she wanted to come with me, but she was only five years old at the time. I promised her that on their next world tour, we would go together. Tonight, that promise came true! She was so happy—vibing, dancing, and jumping! She kept saying things like, “They’re beautiful. They really have two eyes.” For context, she has always believed TWICE was named that because they each have two eyes lol. What touched me even more was what happened after the concert. On our way home, she suddenly said, “Mama, thank you for making me happy. You’re the best mom ever!” I couldn’t help but tear up. TWICE, thank you so much for making my little lifeline happy! Thank you for reminding me that I’m still a decent mother amidst all my overthinking and anxiety in life. Thank you! 🥹 submitted by /u/jumpy404cat [link] [comments]
