6. K-pop Reddit is just as bad with misinformation as other platforms

  • 1 hour ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Just in the last 3 - 4 months we've had mischaracterized or completely fabricated stories make the rounds on k-pop Reddit. From people falling for the story stating orphans were forced to support Jimin for food to everyone bringing out their pitchforks on Ju Haknyeon. There was also the huge mix-up about BabyMonster's Asa where people convinced themselves she didn't graduate elementary school and RESCENE's company having to take legal action because people fell for edited clips and fear mongering. Even the members speaking up in defense of themselves didn't stop calls for boycotting at the time. Even today, thousands of people (assuming all upvotes and comments are from real people) fell for this news on Kep1er when even two seconds of research would've shown this headline to obviously be false. And I'm sure there's been more fake stuff that blew up on k-pop Reddit recently. Matter of fact, I know there is, but considering the topic, I figure I shouldn't reference them if I don't have tangible proof (damn you, deleted threads). And of course during controversy, misinfo is even worse. The truth is, Reddit is an aggregation of news from all other sites, so the info and misinfo that spreads on other sites also comes here. It's a bit easier to combat it with the convenient hyperlink feature, but by the time the truth starts getting out, the false info is firmly cemented and taken as fact. Even when explanations, proof, or accurate translations are provided, it isn't always guaranteed that people will accept the truth. So yeah, make sure your prove things to yourself first before you believe what you see on here. There's fake stuff all over the place and just because it's Reddit, you're not any less likely to be tricked by misinformation than on other sites. Be open to being wrong if your find out you initially fell for something. It happens to the best of us. submitted by /u/SageSageofSages [link] [comments]

8. Is this a normal feeling after seeing one of your faves in concert?

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Over the last little bit I couldn't help but be genuinely curious if this is a normal reaction and feeling after seeing one of your top ever faves in concert. Last year after some convincing I was able to attend OnlyOneOf's concert in Vancouver where I bought two VVIP tickets (as I had to have a parent come with me due to never being to that city before), and it was one of the best experiences ever. Despite my anxiety and forgetting my Korean lines when meeting KB and Junji at the fansign table where they signed my albums, they were really kind and re assuring, often standing that its okay and people can be nervous at their first concerts. Then, I was lucky enough to get to the barricade, where I took fancams, pictures, etc. It was one of my favourite moments, especially my Mum commenting on the members kindness and professionalism as someone who doesn't know Kpop at all. To say the least, I didn't know Jisung (Love) who left OOO, I only knew them as six members but I still cherish them deeply. I wrote a lot of articles around this time promoting them and their music. But I couldn't help but notice, I haven't listened to Kpop as much since then, and I haven't listened to some of my favourite OOO songs for a long time. But I can also realize my views on kpop and how I consume it has been changing over the last couple months. I was just curious overall if other people have had this experience as well. submitted by /u/Responsible-Box2876 [link] [comments]

9. People have way too much trust for idols

  • 3 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I hate how much people trust idols so much. I keep seeing people make posts like "'not all men' you're right ___ would never" and it's like how do you know? You have zero and I mean ZERO proof that they're that amazing and sweet off camera. You don't realize this is exactly what Nct fans thought?? They thought Taeil was perfect and all of a sudden oh wow he's horrible. You don't know any of your idols. Stop acting like they're an angel sent from heaven. 10. Another Day Of ATEEZ Being Plagiarised

I understand that fans don’t want to see their fave group dragged into a plagiarism debate, and honestly, it’s fair to say this falls on the company, not the artists themselves. No one’s saying ATEEZ invented fight scenes, gun shots or stylised poses, obviously not. But when you look at the footage side by side, it’s hard to ignore how similar some of the filming choices actually are. And if you’re about to comment ā€œATEEZ aren’t big enoughā€¦ā€ maybe just scroll on! Video Credit: @/enayisiolmusuz submitted by /u/Sophisticated-Mess [link] [comments]

11. Is the Era of Twice really over?

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Disclaimer - Please read the whole thing out before lashing out in the comments, thank you. So, Twice in the big 2025. Despite releasing a solid body of work this year — three albums in total — they’re barely charting, either domestically or internationally (aside from the two KDH tracks). They’re even struggling to sell out arenas, while 4th and 5th gen groups are easily surpassing them on charts and in numbers. Seriously, where did their fandom go? They used to be considered one of the bigger ones, right? Considering how big they were just a year or two ago, you’d expect them to be charting higher and pulling stronger numbers. They performed at Lollapalooza too, right? That was actually really good — one of the best sets at Lolla in recent years, in my opinion. I really enjoyed the two albums they released this year, aside from the Japanese one. The R&B elements in those tracks especially were fire. What is it then? Releasing music too often, or the fans have transitioned to other artists? From my perspective, they should’ve capitalized on the KDH hype more effectively. Honestly, it’s not on the girls — it’s more about how JYP mapped things out. The strategy just doesn’t feel efficient. JYP should’ve pushed them onto shows like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Jennifer Hudson Show, and other platforms that could’ve helped them reach a wider audience. And I know people would say, ā€œbut they don’t have an avid english speaker.ā€ Yea but we have seen many non-english speaking artists go on these TV shows right? There’s still time for them to turn things around, but of course, if JYP does it right. They should at least send the KDH sub-unit to one of those major U.S. shows to maximize their visibility. submitted by /u/Daddy1007a [link] [comments]

12. K-Pop Girl Group Tournament (Day 53): IVE vs. T-ARA

Day 52 Results: MAMAMOO wins by 74 votes! Vote for your favorite and as always poll closes in 24 hours! If you're unsure of who to vote for, here's a couple songs to help your decision: IVE - HEYA IVE - Accendio IVE - KOKZ T-ARA - NUMBER NINE T-ARA - You drive me crazy T-ARA - So Crazy First Half Second Half Disclaimer: This tournament is not a ā€œcomparisonā€. The seeds were randomized and I didn’t pick the matchups. The songs picked are amongst their most popular because they’re easy to recognize. If you have another song suggestion you may leave it in the comments but please refrain from complaining about the song not being included. I also try to switch up the listed songs every new round, so the songs you might not know from a group might not be listed as they were listed the previous round. Either way, feel free to recommend them in the comments if you’d like. submitted by /u/PushOffTheGround [link] [comments]

I loveee making freebies and I’m going to my first festival in a week where Cortis will be performing (KOOM NYC). Is it weird to hand out freebies for just one artist at a festival or should I wait and make them only for solo shows? Thanks! 16. Ageism, Ablism and Kpop Concerts

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I'm 53, I have always been a pop girlie, always been a music lover and I am a trained opera singer. I came in to Kpop late in life (49) and haven't looked back, I'm over all enjoying myself inside the world I used to think was silly and only something children liked. I have been to three concerts, two in a wheelchair and one in a walker (yay mobility progress!). At Ateez, I had people coming up and offering to help if I seemed stuck or 'in the way' but never rudely, same at Stray Kids, had people help get me to the doors and up to our seats, all Atiny and Stay and they were great. Went to see P1Harmony in ATL and, keep in mind, this is not a slight on the group, they and Ampers&1 were fantastic to see, one of the best shows I've been to. Here I am in line, behind another disabled person in a mobility scooter, also an older woman, both of us keeping up with and in no way slowing down the line, when out of nowhere this girl about 5 groups of fans back starts loudly ranting about how the arena staff should "kick all the f**king grandmas out of the line" and generally just bad mouthing how inconvenient she finds having us 'ugly disabled and old people in her videos of the concert" This went on until the staff did finally come get us, not to 'kick us out' but to speed us through the line. (which was not her doing and should have happened sooner but the staff at gas south were a bit overwhelmed with 6 lines to sort through) This isn't okay. People around her did call her out and IDK who you are random p1ece but I love you. Kpop is music, music doesn't have an age limit you can gate keep, neither do concerts. Disabled people, old people and people you might not find aesthetically pleasing have every right to buy a ticket and go to the same things the able-bodied, young or genetically blessed can. The age thing is never going to go away in the fandom of an industry that considers women "old hags" at 27, so that, though not okay, is at least not a surprise but the nasty ablism was something else and at no time is acceptable, particularly when all we were doing was existing in the same space as you. Also, tall red-headed kinda horse faced girl, 5 people caught you on video, Gas South has had it sent to them as has FNC. FAFO. submitted by /u/diaphoni [link] [comments]

17. Your top 3 biggest surprises and letdowns of the year?

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I mostly follow girl groups but feel free to share your takes on boy groups too. Surprises NMIXX - "Fe3O4: STICK OUT" (last year) was somewhat of a letdown compared to "BREAK", but "FORWARD" the best of the three. "High Horse", "KNOW ABOUT ME", "Papillon" are all crazy good songs... "SPINNIN' ON IT" is maybe my favorite song of theirs, can't wait for their full album. ILLIT - They've stayed true to their concept (which is a breath of fresh air). "bomb" is every bit as good as "Super Real Me" which says a lot. They haven't settled for releasing generic stuff. Hearts2Hearts - "The Chase" is awesome. The other songs feel a bit safe in comparison, but still very high quality. SM really knows what they're doing, super promising group. Honorable mentions: Yeji, Minnie, Seulgi, RESCENE, ARTMS, BIBI, ifeye, FIFTY FIFTY, KPOP Demon Hunters (fun movie, hope we get more of them) Letdowns Blackpink - I'm more confused than anything else. I really expected they to prepare something really special after all this time, but they released an OK song with an MV full of awful AI. And unless I missed some news, there's no album announcement yet? izna - I'm rooting really hard for them as I had a lot of fun watching I-LAND 2. But their songs still haven't delivered. They feel generic/formulaic and the group doesn't seem to have much of a concept or identity. Losing Jiyoon doesn't help at all :( aespa - "Supernova", "Armageddon", "Whiplash" was an all-timer. I think most people agree that "Dirty Work" and "Rich Man" are a downgrade from those. Still have high hopes they'll get better songs in the future. Honorable Mentions: IVE (same as aespa, ok songs but we know how good they can be), MEOVV (too early to tell, but not liking what they've put out) To be seen fromis_9 - Glad they're back and seem to be very popular. The music feels like a downgrade but the title track was good. Katseye - They're the best attempt a global group I can think of. The members are all really fun. Glad they've got the pass to say crazy stuff and swear, etc. instead of being held to the same standards as K-Pop artists. Hope they get better songs in the future. KiiiKiii - "I DO ME" was a very poor start for me, but "BTG" and "Dancing Alone" are great songs. They feel like something new. submitted by /u/MinHeeJeans [link] [comments]

21. Maybe this is a hot take, but I actually don’t care about lip-syncing

  • 6 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

These groups are often doing really intense choreography for long periods of time. It requires a lot of training and skill to sing with stability under that kind of physical exertion. Obviously some idols can pull it off, but not all. And there’s already backtracking to help give fullness of sound. If occasional lip-syncing happens so they can breathe or not make the show unlistenable, I don’t care. I’m watching or attending for the full experience, not to critique vocal technique. And when live singing is great it’s that much more impressive. I’m sure I’ll get argued with here but it’s okay, I’m not sensitive lol submitted by /u/Carridactyl_ [link] [comments]
