13. After about 5 years out of the KPop loop, STAYC may be the ones to bring me back in.

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Been a KPop fan for a while, die hard girl group stan starting with SNSD back in 2008. Recently though, I've struggled to find anything that has really gotten me hooked and over the last 7 years or so KPop has gradually fallen into the background for me. There has been the occasional group or song that will pop up and go viral and grab my interest that way for a week or so. Nothing to this point has had me reeling back thinking "Damn is this what I've been missing?" Then along came STAYC. Now, being honest, I didn't find them in the most natural way. They came into attention to me through the new show KPopped, their collabs were really quite good and they had me intrigued by the "Oops, All Vocals!" theme. One member in particular had me smitten almost immediately (Sieun, pictured above). I had to dig a little deeper and so far have two songs ("So Bad" and "Beautiful Monster" that are a hard repeat. I know it's early days yet, but I may have found a group that has me feeling what I did for SNSD and Apink. Helps that I have a day one bias too, but this group has me immensely interested and it remains to be seen if they can loop me back in, but they've definitely gotten me a little more observant of newer artists. Any recommendations are more than welcome by the way, I'm an old head in this fandom and sometimes it grows a little too fast for me. Help the aged? submitted by /u/ginginbonbon [link] [comments]

18. Song that would have you retiring as an idol

  • 2 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

You magically wake up as an idol, however you're given a song you just can't bring yourself to perform and instead leads you to early retirement, which song is that? In my case some that I can think would make me want to retire are: "Girls girls girls" Got7 I don't specifically hate the song, but if they give me Mark's part and I have to do cartwheels and acrobatic stuff I'm out. Bye bye, I'm no professional gymnast. "Very Nice" Seventeen Great song, I love to hear it but if they gave me any of the vocal parts, especially DK's I'm out. Same with most of Seventeen songs though. "Fancy" Twice Iconic song, really love my girls but if thee gave me either Nayeon's, Jihyo's or Jeongyeon's part I would be out. In fact if they gave me Jihyo's part in any song I'm out. "Step Back" GOT the Beat I really dislike the cringey lyrics. I'm out. Early retirement. Am I exagerating? Probably. "Baggy Jeans" NCT U Love the song but ain't no way I'm doing the choreo, it seems really tiring, no thanks. "Fever" JYP ft. Bibi Specifically if I was doing the Bibi part, bye. I'd be leaving for retirement early. "Double Knot" SKZ Nothing against the song but if I had to be Changbin I'm out. It's not that everything else is easier but that, I'm not even trying, early retirement. submitted by /u/Ch_ch_chewing_gum [link] [comments]

21. How does your fav group treat their leader?

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Enhypen's leader also happens to be a maknae. Enha would rather die than ever admit Jungwon makes mistakes. Especially in games lol. They'll scold the rules, PD staff, the weather, or other members before they'll ever scold Jungwon for losing them points. Even if Jungwon is the one causing chaos, they'll literally blame anyone else for the disruption lol. They take care of him and lets him do anything he wants with them. They have a lot of trust in Jungwon to lead them in public. He was chosen as the leader because of his tough mentality and the way he looks after the members' needs without being asked. Enha might be quiet and soft-spoken, but every single member has a strong personality. All these strong personalities listen to him and he keeps them in line. At the same time, they're also protective of Jungwon and makes sure he's not alone in carrying the weight of being a maknae and leader. It's also cute how they let Jungwon get away with anything lol. He's such a cute person himself but he leads a group with such strong personalities. Now, what's the dynamic of your fav's leader with their group? How do they treat their leader? submitted by /u/Desire-Untold [link] [comments]

24. I wish K-pop stans treated Sulli like a person

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Content warning for mentions of suicide, as expected. Also this is a very spur-of-the-moment thing, so don't flame me if it sounds a little weird. Hi. I'm an f(x) fan; pretty late in the scheme of things. When I joined K-pop in 2017, f(x) hadn't released anything in a year and were about to not release anything more ever. But humble me fell in love with their discography, and though I'm not a *stan* stan I've always been a big fan, and was heartbroken to hear about Sulli's death. Now, I have something to rant about. I swear, every time I see Sulli brought up it's always because of her death. Yes. It's very tragic what happened to Sulli, and all the circumstances around her death. HOWEVER. She was also a person. Not a collection of bad events, not merely a sad story. But forget about her contributions to f(x) and K-pop and society, or even just how cool she was—LOOK AT HER LIVE WHERE SHE'S BREAKING DOWN INTO TEARS!! LOOK AT THIS EDIT I MADE WITH A SAD SONG TRAGEDY-BAITING ABOUT HER DEATH!! ISN'T IT SO TRAGIC? WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE HAD MORE TO HER THAN JUST DYING? BUT MY TIKTOK CAREER! MY "K-POP IDOLS WE FAILED TO PROTECT" VIDEOS! MY "DARK SIDE OF K-POP" WANK! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GAIN VIEWS OVER SYMPATHY-BAITING NOW?! This is an issue that happens with a lot of K-pop idols who passed away, really. SHINee fans never stop complaining about non-Shawols using Jonghyun's death for whatever shallow purposes. I'm sure at this point ASTRO fans are tired of insincere Moonbin wank, too (though I'm not part of the fandom). But I swear, no one actually talks about anything Sulli-related that's not her death, and I barely see anyone complaining. I think it's because the f(x) fandom is smaller and I'm not as connected to it (despite having loved their music for a long time, I'm a dirty casual when it comes to actually stanning them)—for all I know, they might have debated this a million times over. But at least let me soapbox over it. At least SHINee fans have a core fanbase who visibly fights against all the wank and actually treats Jonghyun like a person. Literally 99% of Sulli content I see is just boiling her down to "that K-pop idol girl who got bullied to death". submitted by /u/imnanbaboya [link] [comments]

28. r/kpopthoughts banned topics, banning policies, & snark/nsfw policies

  • 6 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Hello thinkers! The modteam has decided to collate all our recent policy updates in one post. You can view these from the community guidelines button as well, but this function has been broken in the Reddit app for about a month now (our darling u/lucichameleon has made our own bug report!) and can't be viewed in app. We hope that this makes our new policies more visible. Comments will be turned off because debate regarding these policies has already concluded in previous townhalls. Banned Topics: Sensitive topics - including but not limited to: cultural appropriation, race-related topics Idols’ sexuality speculation (this also applies to their personal life; who is dating who, which ships are real or not real, etc.) Eating Disorders/Body Image/Fatshaming/Weight Topics. This includes speculation on plastic surgery. International Politics, such ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict (including the boycotts around that) or the situation in Xinjiang. Topics with ongoing megathreads. Anything to do with the NJ/MHJ issue (unless it's in a megathread). Banned for staleness: Minors debuting and sexualisation of minors Whether or not 'kpop-adjacent' bands should be discussed in this sub and/or whether or not they are kpop. Meta discussions of kpop as a genre are not stale. Banning Policy: This list is currently being created and edited. Please be patient. The following is the policy for how users will be banned following rule violations. Rule 1 and Rule 11 both incur automatic temporary bans. Posting about a Banned Topic also incurs an automatic temporary ban. These guidelines are intended for posts/comments made within one day. Rule 1 (No Direct Insults) A single simple insult in one comment: one day. Multiple violations (up to three): three days A single, severe insult: three days Over three violations: seven days More than one severe insult: seven days There will be three temporary bans given for this rule. The fourth ban will be permanent. Rule 11 (No censoring of words) A single use of censoring, to avoid trigger list: one day Multiple violations (up to three) to avoid trigger list: three days Using censoring to bypass banned topics: three days Using emojis to censor: three days Multiple violations of censoring to avoid banned topics: seven days Multiple violations of using emojis to censor: seven days Censoring words and stating this is done to get around trigger or banned lists: seven days There will be three temporary bans given for this rule. The fourth ban will be permanent. Banned Topics Posting about a topic that is on the banned list: three days Other Rules This guideline is ongoing; it is not for comments within one day. Three warnings will be given. Upon the fourth rule violation, there will be a three-day ban. If there is a fifth violation, there will be a seven-day ban, with a notice that another violation will result in a permanent ban. Six rule violations will lead to a permanent ban. NSFW/Snark subs People who regularly participate in kpop snark subs will be banned from this one. To avoid unneccessary publicity, those subs will not be named. They are subs that fulfil both parts of the definition below. What is a snark sub? We define a snark sub as one that is set up for the express purpose of facilitating hateful discussion (snark) about a group AND disallows 'fan behaviour'. What is regular participation? Regular participation is defined as making a set number of comments or posts within a two week span. Please note that regular participation in NSFW kpop discussion subs (ie: fap subs) will also incur an automatic ban. As always our rules and policies are public for everyone to view and we hope Reddit sorts their mobile app ASAP! submitted by /u/KpopThoughtsmodteam [link] [comments]
