Pretty much all the top active girl groups in K-pop performed this weekend. I've tried to watch as much as I can and so here's a quick review! Let's do this in order of the groups' debut date. For some balance, I will add a small criticism of each show: TWICE at Lollapalooza. I don't know that I can add any more to all the posts people have been making. There's a case to be made that this show was even better than their career-defining show at Nissan Stadium in Japan last year. The full set was 19 songs, and included a couple of nice surprises, like ICON, which they haven't performed live in years. They spoke English throughout, too, which you love to see. Complaints? The official broadcast is not available online anymore!! BLACKPINK in Paris (2 nights). These are for sure the best shows of the tour so far, the crowd was electric and loud, and the girls are in their groove. Rose in particular sounds amazing. She's found an extra gear in her performance skills since the Born Pink tour and is getting awfully good at commanding an audience rather than simply perform to them. She's got a bright future ahead. My main complaint about their show is that it's too short and the interludes are too long. ITZY at the Taipei Dome. Yoooo, this one is a whole other type of nuts. Seven song set on a baseball diamond n a packed stadium and a massive light show and great camera work -- but no fans on the floor. The whole show is here, you kinda have to see it to believe it. The Taiwan crowd was popping for them as always. Complaint? Not a lot of live vocals this time, which is pretty strange for Itzy these days. AESPA at KCON LA. This is a shorter set with 4 songs. Whiplash and Supernova are badass songs in live format, and mixing in Flights Not Feelings was a nice mix-in. The crowd was with them all the way. Sometimes people get on their case for not being a top group in stage performance, but you'd never know it watching this perforance. I thought this was a good side of them. Complaints? The vocal audio mix was way out of whack. SM is never going to figure out that they can just let our girls sing and everything will be fine, are they? IVE at KCON LA. Years of touring has turned IVE into a well-oiled performance machine. Rebel Heart and Attitude went down great with the local crowd. This show produced a meme that will be riffed on for years: Liz lost grip of her mic and it went flying. Complaint? Song selection. I think the new album is great, it's probably my most listened to k-pop album in 2025, but they only performed one of their classics. 😑 LE SSERAFIM in Manila. Everybody is absolutely RAVING about this show on social media and here on Reddit. The members themselves have said that they felt like it was the best show of their tour. Maybe I should be upset about that because I saw them in Tokyo a couple of months ago (and that show was outstanding).... but after seeing the footage of the crowds singing Antifragile, I've gotta agree. Le Sserafim blew the house off the place. How they manage to put on a 2+ hour show full of tough choreography and live vocals is a modern miracle of K-pop. Plus the crowd sang Happy Birthday to Chaewon. Complaint? No live band! They're using new & different mixes of many of their songs but nothing beats real musicians. KATSEYE at Lollapalooza. They've been preparing hard for this concert and it really shows. They added a fabulous minute-long dance break into Gabriella which is one of the best I've seen in any K-pop* performance this decade. Another cool thing they've done is adjusted Debut's choreography to feature Manon more, which was one of those fair complaints that Eyekons have been making for a while now. Even the camera work was good. Complaints? Same as TWICE... can't easily watch it again. Also performing at KCON this weekend: i-dle, NMIXX, Kep1er, izna, Meovv, Hwasa, and more. On top of that, Fifty Fifty, Hearts2Hearts, Close Your Eyes, and Baby VOX (!!!) all played a festival in Yeosu, SK. All of this in the space of a couple of days. INSANE. submitted by /u/daltorak [link] [comments]
Last night, TREASURE released a teaser poster for their upcoming album which made me think what could've happened with them if Mashiho and Yedam didn't leave the group. Back when the two of them were still in Treasure, YG heavily promoted them as twelve diamonds: all of their albums had 12 diamonds on it, their logo, the mics, and even their in-ears. On the sleeve of their first full album, Treasure Effect, there are twelve diamonds that appears to be how they planned Treasure's releases. The first three diamonds huddled together— TREASURE's first three single albums were released within their first four months— and one of the inclusions of that same album was a file holder that had symbols. The first five symbols were: a diamond, a heart, a lightning, a circle, and a flower-like shape. Which were all in their albums. After they left the group, the entire "The First/Second Step" was scrapped and they released REBOOT instead. An earlier example from the same agency would be with WINNER. Their album after a hiatus was EXIT: E, the album was supposed to be the first album among the four (spelling EXIT) but one of the main producers of the album was the member, Nam Taehyun who was heavily involved in the entire album. He later left the group and the entire series was dropped. The album was heavily based on Taehyun's own music taste, and since he left, it appears that WINNER has never performed Baby Baby and Sentimental ever again (cmiiw). Are there any more cases like this? submitted by /u/ivtokkimsh [link] [comments]

Some of you may know her from IZ*ONE. She is now a soloist! And has been since 2022. One of my favorite soloists, and has released a new mini album last week! Called “Blooming Wings”. Her older songs are also very good, imo. Having 32 songs in total, there must be something for you! Quite a few of her songs also give J-Pop vibes hehe. She of course has a couple of Japanese songs. Pick your numbers! 🩷 submitted by /u/AngelWithAPencil [link] [comments]
I’ve been noticing more fans using serious real-world issues to cancel idols or to make their faves look more morally right than others. Instead of focusing on the actual issue, it often turns into a way to win arguments or push a certain group as the “better” one. This isn’t about awareness anymore. It’s just another form of fanwar. Another thing to think about is that idols — whether it’s BTS, BLACKPINK, or others — are part of the entertainment business. A lot of what they do or don’t do is influenced by business decisions, brand deals, and public image. That doesn’t mean they don’t have a say, but it does mean we shouldn’t expect them to speak up about everything, all the time, or be perfect moral examples. And realistically, no idol has always made the right call. That’s not a personal attack, it’s just the truth. Instead of using these issues to cancel or uplift idols, maybe it’s time we focus more on our own values and beliefs, and not rely on idols to shape them for us. You can support your fave and still care about real issues but using those issues just to cancel others or win fandom fights? That’s not it. Let’s be more thoughtful about how we talk about serious topics in fan spaces. submitted by /u/excitingstable53 [link] [comments]

So last night I was AT Lollapalooza to see Twice. After 6 and a half grueling hours of waiting and fighting the crowd for a decent spot, Twice finally came on. Simply put it was so extremely surreal. I've seen them twice (lol) previously for Ready to Be in Metlife and the encore in Las Vegas. Both times were insane unforgettable treats. However this Lollapalooza performance was on another level. Each of the girls were absolutely on the peak of their game. Jihyo may be my ult but with Twice, any of the other members are absolutely ready to wreck you. First of easily they all looked so beautiful. Give their stylist a raise to the moon. I remember trying to take pictures of a member then one passes by and immediately steals my attention. The wreckers of the night were Jeongyeon, Momo, and Dahyun. Jihyo though absolutely brought ever ounce of her godly mother being and left absolutely nothing on that stage. Iirc, she said in Bubble that she almost collapse and after seeing her on stage, I wouldn't blame her for doing so. The show was just insane. The crazy part was how relentless the pace was. Song after song after song gave you just no break. I guess it had to be that way since the show was only 1:30 long. I may have been at the park for a whole afternoon leaving me kind of gassed but as soon as they came on I had fo return the energy they had. That NaMo dance break though 👀. The main highlight of the show wss the setlist. I know for a while people were saying Twice's music wasng ecsctly suited for festivals. However I scoffed at it because there's such a wide variety of genres that everything has a place. Twice did do most of their titles with some b-sides. Chaeyoung gave a hint that they'd be doing a song they havent done in a while and I was wondering which was it. I'm guessing it was ICON since it's the biggest gap since they performed it back for their III Tour. That song is special to me because it was one of the first songs I listened to when I first got into them. I also have to talk about that amazing band. They really enhanced the show and every single song. I've been saying how I wanted a live concert for Twice's shows and their bands are a serious reason why. The big surprise of the setlist though was JeongJiChae finally getting a stage for Takedown. The way the crowd exploded when that song came on... I know I did lol. Then they did a drone show for the first real break of the show to highlight the soundtrack for KPop Demon Hunters which also got a huge reaction! Twice are in the midst of a Renaissance right now. They're in their 10th year right now but haven't taken their foot of the gas. If anything they've floored it even more! I'm just grateful to have been in their presence for a 3rd time! I’m currently at Kcon and had the opportunity of doing a meet and greet. I’ve realized some people might GENUINELY be mentally unwell. Based off of the conversations (not eavesdropping but in passing) I’ve heard…it seems some people might be obsessed (in a bad way). Is this a common thing in kpop or am I just not into as much as I thought? submitted by /u/averagewhiteyolk [link] [comments]
I have been loving Hangyul for a long time now and he's my ult. He's someone I really admire so much and look up to. These days, I have been very worried and very unhappy because there aren't many activities for Hangyul these days. I envy people who have a happy stan life. Those who were able to see their idols often. I wonder why he's not so active anymore. I just thought that maybe he's trying to keep POLARIX's activities a secret, or maybe there's really not an activity for them/him these days. And I wonder if he's coming back to BAE173. I wonder if his contract with Pocketdol Studio is coming to an end, but I'm not sure when he signed his contract. He has been very inactive these days, and I'm getting extremely worried. I am still here lingering to that hope that he will get recognized someday, consistently performing on stages and appear in variety shows 'cause he has that personality that people will definitely like. If he disappears, I will be extremely sad because I would never find a celebrity who is as genuine and kind as him. He's such a gem. I think he has made an impact on my life. submitted by /u/yannana-98 [link] [comments]
Recently there are some I have been a casual listener of and decided to fully stan (Xikers, Cravity, Twice, Le Sserafim, Seventeen), others I may have heard about in passing and decided to do a sudden dive (NOWZ, 82major, Ampers&One, StayC). I feel like the beginning phase is my favorite phase, mostly because I love learning and expanding my music taste. It’s a two for one special (I say that because I know you don’t HAVE to engage in the content and stuff to enjoy the music, but that’s the other fun part to me). 😆 submitted by /u/CeCeAlexus [link] [comments]
There was a time when Korea was considering an idol lip sync ban and i personally think that is what K-pop needs these days. It's so frustrating to see idols going on huge international stages to represent their home country but doing lip sync there. It very jarring and stands out badly for the audience who are used to live stages. I think Korea should revisit the ban again and hopefully get the law passed so that Korea's pride can be upheld. submitted by /u/exxxhara [link] [comments]
It's THEIR decision to, and that's okay. As someone who's been watching BTS since the no more dream era, I find it funny how it was so much easier for them and their company to cast black female leads when they were enamored with the 'Hip Hop image'. Even going in the streets to find black women to specifically typecast for these roles and working with many black people regarding video production etc (when they were at their lowest in popularity). But now that they have gradually 'progressed' from that 'image', while still collaborating with black creators and occassionally adopting certain features of that image for their production, suddenly its quite difficult. You get the tone, when its a homey or Korean based song intented to be marketed in their home country, we get a Korean female lead. When it's meant for international audiences, (they have to show us its international by having English lyrics) they have a White OR Korean woman? Formula, black sound (sometimes) + black mainstream artist + sometimes a sprinkle of AAVE+ predominantly white production crew--- you get the rest. I thought I was tripping, but when 'Killin it girl' dropped I was like, okay this is a hipop beat, urban aesthetics popular with mainstream black culture, plus mainstream popular black artist, P.O.C dance crew, but the female lead? It's okay if only white and Korean people are their preferences, but at the height of your popularity, when you arguably have significantly the most creative control, what could ossibly be hindering you apart from personal preference? submitted by /u/Familiar_Shoe_1340 [link] [comments]
Real talk: If a survival show actually gave the trainees time to grow and shine… ❌ No evil editing ❌ No rigging ❌ No producers constantly shoving their faves in your face And instead focused on pure skill, with: ✨ No weighted K-votes ✨ Ex-idols and new faces ✨ A permanent group ✨ Team bonding moments instead of fights for screen time Would you still watch? Or do we secretly love the chaos too much? 👀 submitted by /u/shellbear626 [link] [comments]
