408. Are Idols more or less sexualized now? 🤔

I believe sexualization has gone down since 2nd and 3rd Gen. Back then it was less overt. Want to hear what everyone thinks. 😁 submitted by /u/JaySwizzle1984 [link] [comments]

410. Why can't people just be normal about BTS? Everything is blow out of proportion.

  • 4 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I understand that you don't like them, that you don't like their music, that's something completely normal, but what is it that makes people abandon all logic, empathy and so on when it comes to them? One of the most common online discourse is "they changed, they are not the same" and of course they are, I mean they are older now, idols are not static figures that stay frozen in time, they live experiences everyone and those experiences form them as people.... I think for some fans it's hard to accept that they are not so relatable anymore, BTS are at a point in their career where they are not subject to people's demands, some fans are affected by that and don't know how to handle it. As an army I think in their essence they haven't changed, they have matured and grown up , sure , but their essence is the same. I don't consider them perfect they are just human with flaws and qualities.I know some people expected them to fade away during military service and that didn't happen... but some of you are making too much of it, I'm sorry but the amount of illogical things I read this week is so... it makes me wonder why people are so angry. The truth is that since they have been discharged they are not so active in social media, they have jobs here and there but apart from that they are quite focused on their work and life. What about it make people so angry? Also ,people getting angry with Armys for not canceling them? Canceling them for what? I just don't understand why all logic goes out the window as soon as they are named. To me they are at a point where they don't need to be idols anymore, the fandom is mostly adult and they are in a position where they don't need to succumb to all the demands the fans have and that's fine half their career they only did that , I find it refreshing that they are focusing on what they want because it's their career and the industry has used them too much. I saw someone saying "why don't armys cancel Jimin for dating? "I saw someone saying they are going to ask the company to kick him out of the group and BTS will be done... first why would army cancel Jimin for dating? That's a normal thing.. idk I think this whole discourse lacks logic and sense. Maybe is because I am old? But it's pretty hard to understand half of the discourse in kpop spaces, because sometimes it's just illogical. I think the current state of social media is a reflection of what our society is going through, there is a lot of frustration but I think kpop stans are taking it to another level and when it comes to BTS everyone just blow everything out of proportion. submitted by /u/kat3dyy [link] [comments]

416. The wooah news hit me like a truck

  • 4 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I always tell myself I know that not all these idols are perfect human beings and that some are likely bad people and that I should never assume a group is good. Yet, knowing this did not make that sucker punch I just felt to the gut feel any less painful. Wooah was the very first nugu group I ever got into. To this day, "Polaroid" is one of my favourite songs of all time and I credit it with being one of the songs that got me into kpop. I never stanned wooah, but seeing a nugu group with so much genuine talent and creativity go down the path they are going down now just hits so deep. They released their best album and work ever just to immediately right after go on a shit demoralizing AI show targeted at groups who "lost their shine". I thought that was the rock bottom for wooah. Oh boy was I wrong. RIP wooah, and thanks for what you've meant to me on my kpop journey. Sorry for the dumb emotional post and vent. I hope this group disbands truly and all the members can be set free. submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

419. This song and performance still lives rent-free in my head

As a huge fan of boy group survival shows, this performance is on top. As I was watching B2P, I found this gem again on youtube and went on pd101s2 rabbit hole again. I can never get over this song and performance. All except Kim Jonghyun and Kwon Hyunbin debuted as Wanna One. And even though W1 rerecorded this song, this performance is still the best one out there. I MEAN LOOK? Kim Jonghyun rapping? Hwang Minhyun as center??? Kim Jaehyun's vocals??? Kwon Hyunbin having a hard time dancing yet his rap were on fire??? Daewhi deserves that center part of the song UGH MY HEART.. 423. Katseye’s privilege & delusional fans

  • 4 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Disclaimer: I love Katseye. It’s just that sometimes their fans can be rather delusional or in denial. I was introduced to Kpop through Katseye, but every time I turn around, it seems like the vast majority of their fans keep trying to distance the girls from the Kpop genre. Or in this case, painting them out to have a “rags to riches” story. We’ve all watched the same Netflix show as everyone else. And yes, it’s a proven fact that basically all of Katseye members come from some kind of money/social standing that accelerated their career or chances of getting into Dream academy. I kid you not, most of Katseye’s fans are trying to convince themselves that they “came from nothing” when it’s quite the opposite. Sophia was revealed to have a mom who is a singer in the Philippines and a dad who is a chef. She even said she lived in Hong Kong at some point growing up because her dad’s job relocated them often. Lara’s childhood is a mansion, while Manon grew up in Switzerland, one of the most costly places to own a home. Yoonchae was revealed to have spent over 2 years as a trainee before debuting. Megan’s parents had enough money to travel to and from Hawaii every week, and that’s not including the lessons she took. Her mom was her manager for almost every endeavor she wanted to do. The same goes for Dani. I just hate the fact that Katseye’s fans believe that since dream academy/ Katseye was marketed as “representation” (because it makes up multiple races), people believe that they are a staple for “if only I work hard, all my dreams will come true” motto. Most of us can’t relate to Katseye. That’s ok. But imma need them to stop coming to Katseye’s defense every time someone casually mentions the fact that it wasn’t mere talent and dedication that got Katseye to where they are. I don’t say this out of spite; it truly wasn’t just hard work and dedication. They all came from parents who had the means to afford lessons to get them where they are today. That’s not shade. That’s just the truth that most of these delusional Katseye fans don’t comprehend. Yes, they are talented, but I would go so far as to say that had it not been for them taking lessons to hone their craft, they wouldn’t even be in Katseye… the lessons that their parents could afford. submitted by /u/Embarrassed_Love7360 [link] [comments]

424. You must be kidding me if anybody really think Wonyoung got "Fat".

  • 4 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Ever since the "Fiesta" era when she was in Iz*One, everyone was losing weight consistently ever since, specially Wonyoung who didn't' need to begin with. She was literally a tween. Then BAM she debuted in IVE which allegedly she was between 40-45kg between this 4 years, EVERYONE was talking about how she was starting too look emancipated not long ago but also a lot of these people were praising for her "Discipline" (VERY ed coded) and being stable on performances bc let's be honest, how she was getting on that Stage and dance for 2H straight? And now people are saying she gained too much? Comparing her to her members specially Liz and Rei? Is this really necessary? No wonder she barely shows emotions and try to follow the script of an idol all the time. No matter how she works on her skills, people will always praise for her beauty so honestly why even try? I know her entire career is based on her visuals and stuff, and she's getting THAT bag so I'm not trying to picture her as the "Oh, poor pretty rich girl". But let's remember Sulli, Goo Hara, Jonghyun and many others who once were the "Pretty and hot rich people" that was getting constant hate over the internet, and money won't buy your inner piece. Praise for her for not having a breakdown ever or at least never being allegedly to. submitted by /u/0110I1I [link] [comments]

426. Do new/newer Kpop fans ever get FOMO about past generations?

  • 4 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This might be a dumb question but I came across a 3rd Gen edit recently and the question popped in my mind. I felt this way about 2nd Gen so I was wondering if 4th-5th Gen fans ever feel a certain way when past generations are brought up. Do you guys ever feel like you missed out or other similar feelings arise when you see edits about them or people talking about it? I’m curious to know. submitted by /u/Top-Examination-599 [link] [comments]
