409. As a massive kpop fan of 6+ years, I’m heartbroken by the energy at concerts. Am I alone? Or just had a bad experience?

  • reddit.com language

I need to get this off my chest because, maybe it’s embarrassing to say, but it’s really been weighing on me. I found my way to the kpop world around 2018-19 and especially with the pandemic, I grew deeply attached to some groups and have became a huge part of my life. I literally met my current partner through online fandoms. But my recent experience at our last concert left me feeling, disheartened. I guess I’ll preface saying that I’ve been going to live music shows since I was a literal baby, I was raised in a home that encouraged passionate connection with musical artists and live experiences. As an adult I’ve worked through much of my social anxieties and found live shows to be experiences I can fully give and receive the passion I find in the artist, music, and community. It’s not an environment to hide or hold back (within respectful reason obviously). I went to one kpop show in 2023 that meant the world to me, I took a friend who wasn’t familiar with the artist, but was so incredibly supportive and engaged and happy to make the experience everything I dreamed. But I recently went to a different group’s show with my partner and I can’t help but feel like things were so off. I love the group, my partner specifically is extremely attached to them, and I was so excited to see them together. The group was fantastic, the performance everything I hoped for, but, the crowd. What is going on with the crowd. I was singing my heart out, jumping, dancing, (again, while respecting the space of others around me, just enjoying the passion of it all) but I very quickly starting feeling so insecure. Because I couldn’t see even one other person reacting the same. The majority of the crowd was either focused on taking pictures and videos on their phones, or gently swaying their light sticks and standing nearly still. No energy, no collective experience of watching such incredible performers live. It felt like one of those dreams where you realize you forgot your clothes in a crowd of people. I held myself back at some point because I just felt obnoxious for simply enjoying what I was literally there to enjoy. It’s made me so upset considering how much I looked forward to that experience. I more recently went to a show of a western artist, bigger in the 2000s with a passionate fan base. The crowd brought a complete opposite energy that I’ve grown such a love for. Strangers making friends, singing as passionately as you felt, dancing without caring who’s looking. Because that’s what we’re all there for. So.. what’s the deal? I’m so sad because my partner and their friends who were there seemed surprised with my experience and seemed confused. Am I just getting old? Is this just the culture of kpop shows? submitted by /u/DepthHistorical4996 [link] [comments]

410. Zico's song The Language of Flowers is a masterpiece

Maybe not everyone will like this song, but it's so comforting listen. The piano, JeHwi soft voice, the violin, the orchestra playing. This song is incredibly beautiful. submitted by /u/Separate-Comedian-25 [link] [comments]

412. There’s something missing from KiiiKiii but I don’t know what.

I honestly feel like Starship has done their best for them. promo-wise, they’ve been on plenty of content, and their comeback concept-wise or aesthetically been high-quality and have been praised a lot. Also they’re have good amount of brand deals and consistently rank at the top of girl group brand reputation for months, higher than other 5th gen GGs. I can understand that their album performance is underwhelming. Maybe it’s because the vibe was so different from I Do Me overall. But this time i personally thought ‘Dancing Alone’ was great and expected it to do well, but it didn’t really take off. I think Starship really is pushing them, but their growth feels slow and songs underperform. What do you guys think is missing from KiiiKiii? submitted by /u/Difficult_Bit_3025 [link] [comments]

413. Has anyone ever have fights with their K-pop fandom?

  • 4 days ago schedule

A bit of yapping here, but long story short, I had disagreements with my fandom and got banned from their server. So has anyone ever had to deal with bad K-pop fandoms? Context: I began listening to T-ara around 5 months ago, and for a long time, I had no way to connect with fans of the group. It felt like I could only enjoy the music myself, and it was lonely. That was until I decided to join a server for T-ara fans. Most people there seemed friendly and I was glad I finally had T-ara enjoyers to connect with. While it made me more comfortable with liking K-pop as a whole, it took some time before I ran into problems with people on the server. Over time, I noticed that when I brought up ideas that challenged the mainstream of the server, discussions often became tense, and I felt less comfortable sharing my thoughts. After many disagreements, I eventually negotiated for a channel to voice my thoughts. While most people were cool after that was made, the owner of the server was not. Even after the channel was made, I always felt singled out by the owner. The final straw came when I got expelled from the T-ara server with no warning. I don’t remember breaking any rules, I only remembered writing a long review and giving a 3/5 rating. While joining the biggest T-ara server on Discord did help me feel more comfortable with liking K-pop, the atmosphere there felt aloof and confrontational that eventually led to my expulsion. submitted by /u/Mountain-You9842 [link] [comments]

414. Are Idols more or less sexualized now? 🤔

I believe sexualization has gone down since 2nd and 3rd Gen. Back then it was less overt. Want to hear what everyone thinks. 😁 submitted by /u/JaySwizzle1984 [link] [comments]

416. Why can't people just be normal about BTS? Everything is blow out of proportion.

  • 4 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I understand that you don't like them, that you don't like their music, that's something completely normal, but what is it that makes people abandon all logic, empathy and so on when it comes to them? One of the most common online discourse is "they changed, they are not the same" and of course they are, I mean they are older now, idols are not static figures that stay frozen in time, they live experiences everyone and those experiences form them as people.... I think for some fans it's hard to accept that they are not so relatable anymore, BTS are at a point in their career where they are not subject to people's demands, some fans are affected by that and don't know how to handle it. As an army I think in their essence they haven't changed, they have matured and grown up , sure , but their essence is the same. I don't consider them perfect they are just human with flaws and qualities.I know some people expected them to fade away during military service and that didn't happen... but some of you are making too much of it, I'm sorry but the amount of illogical things I read this week is so... it makes me wonder why people are so angry. The truth is that since they have been discharged they are not so active in social media, they have jobs here and there but apart from that they are quite focused on their work and life. What about it make people so angry? Also ,people getting angry with Armys for not canceling them? Canceling them for what? I just don't understand why all logic goes out the window as soon as they are named. To me they are at a point where they don't need to be idols anymore, the fandom is mostly adult and they are in a position where they don't need to succumb to all the demands the fans have and that's fine half their career they only did that , I find it refreshing that they are focusing on what they want because it's their career and the industry has used them too much. I saw someone saying "why don't armys cancel Jimin for dating? "I saw someone saying they are going to ask the company to kick him out of the group and BTS will be done... first why would army cancel Jimin for dating? That's a normal thing.. idk I think this whole discourse lacks logic and sense. Maybe is because I am old? But it's pretty hard to understand half of the discourse in kpop spaces, because sometimes it's just illogical. I think the current state of social media is a reflection of what our society is going through, there is a lot of frustration but I think kpop stans are taking it to another level and when it comes to BTS everyone just blow everything out of proportion. submitted by /u/kat3dyy [link] [comments]

422. The wooah news hit me like a truck

  • 4 days ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I always tell myself I know that not all these idols are perfect human beings and that some are likely bad people and that I should never assume a group is good. Yet, knowing this did not make that sucker punch I just felt to the gut feel any less painful. Wooah was the very first nugu group I ever got into. To this day, "Polaroid" is one of my favourite songs of all time and I credit it with being one of the songs that got me into kpop. I never stanned wooah, but seeing a nugu group with so much genuine talent and creativity go down the path they are going down now just hits so deep. They released their best album and work ever just to immediately right after go on a shit demoralizing AI show targeted at groups who "lost their shine". I thought that was the rock bottom for wooah. Oh boy was I wrong. RIP wooah, and thanks for what you've meant to me on my kpop journey. Sorry for the dumb emotional post and vent. I hope this group disbands truly and all the members can be set free. submitted by /u/SnooOranges829 [link] [comments]

425. This song and performance still lives rent-free in my head

  • 4 days ago schedule

As a huge fan of boy group survival shows, this performance is on top. As I was watching B2P, I found this gem again on youtube and went on pd101s2 rabbit hole again. I can never get over this song and performance. All except Kim Jonghyun and Kwon Hyunbin debuted as Wanna One. And even though W1 rerecorded this song, this performance is still the best one out there. I MEAN LOOK? Kim Jonghyun rapping? Hwang Minhyun as center??? Kim Jaehyun's vocals??? Kwon Hyunbin having a hard time dancing yet his rap were on fire??? Daewhi deserves that center part of the song UGH MY HEART..
