11. (Interview links) KDH perfectionism: Andrew Choi singing 1 word up to 40 times. Multiple songs before Golden, Ejae’s 4 years + connection to each of the Big 4

  • 3 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I think the amount of time spent refining a relatively few songs for the soundtrack is part of it’s success. Ian Eisendrath, the executive music producer, said it was the longest film project he worked on. He also said Golden “had five to six songs written for that slot.” Ejae and cowriter Mark Sonnenblick talked about working “nearly five years” on the songs. Composer Daniel Rojas, who brought in Ejae, posted about it being “the longest and most involved project of my career.” Ian was also the vocal producer. He talked about having Ejae record hundreds of times to authentically sound like her voice was breaking. It sounds intense, but it seems like working on this movie helped Ejae discover her ability. Andrew Choi (Jinu’s singing voice) did an interview a few days ago and talked about what an unexpected, crazy experience it was to work with Ian on the songs. Andrew said “I never knew that a single word could be that important…there were just particular words that he had me sing like literally 20, 30, 40 times” (full video here.) Ian gave Andrew detailed directions on what the scene would be like and how to embody the character. It shows the obsessiveness to get the songs to where they are. It’s only 7 original songs in the soundtrack, and a few more short songs that are only in the movie, like Hunter’s Mantra. The time they had to reject earlier versions and refine such a small amount of songs seems impossible in Kpop. I saw that Ejae had posted a picture with an earlier version of Golden with an extra Mira verse (last slide here), and it does seem better without those lyrics. This kind of relentless refinement is like Steve Jobs’ design saying, “there are a thousand nos for every yes.” Meaning instead of trying to do everything, just focus on delivering a few things that are your absolute best, like Apple’s limited line of products. But also exploring and rejecting a lot of ideas. Big 4 sound It’s interesting that KDH has some representation or connection to each company, or its artist. I noticed this when I saw Andrew Choi is still with SM (interview says he taught classes at SM Universe Singapore.) It’s most direct with Twice. Black Label is part owned by YG; despite a minority stake, YG discloses on its own financial statements that it is a controlling authority. KDH has an indirect connection to BTS, with Jenna Andrews and Stephen Kirk behind Butter and Permission to Dance. (Andrews also vocal produced Dynamite.) These two did make entirely different songs, Free and What It Sounds Like, partly from taking advantage of the fluent English of the singers. I also think they did it to show their own lyrical range. submitted by /u/hyeran_jainros_fc [link] [comments]

12. Questions about CORTIS and genre classification

  • reddit.com language

So, I'm new to K-pop, but I know what goes on since I'm involved in other K-pop fan-dominated fandoms like BL and anime. However, I'm a bit confused about the genres, kind of like how I'll put it. I've been really into CORTIS because it's similar to a lot of Western artists I listen to in terms of fun rap and experimental sounds. But I'm confused as to why they're classified as K-pop. They themselves mentioned in an interview that they feel like they transcend genres such as rock, rap, etc. I guess I’m just not sure why they fall under K-pop. Wouldn’t they be classified more as rap or something else? Their song "GO" sounds a lot like Travis Scott, and he wouldn’t be classified as pop, so I think I'm just looking for the reasons behind this classification. Side note: completely unrelated, but I'm so excited to dive into K-pop! I feel it's right up my alley, and I guess I'm talking about it because I haven't really shared my excitement with anyone yet. Eek! I love starting a new fandom—it's so fun! I hope I really find a new interest in this and connect with people. 🫰🫶 Also, this is not AI-generated. I just use Grammarly to fix spelling. submitted by /u/Feisty-Guard-5809 [link] [comments]

17. Lesbians, how do you pick your male biases?

  • 6 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Hi everyone! I'm still figuring out my sexuality, so I hope this post doesn't come off in the wrong way. I'm genuinely asking out of curiosity. I noticed in pop culture, a lot of people in the LGBTQ+ community tend to gravitate towards female idols (like how many gays stan Ariana... i think the male pop stars demographic is more young female ig). I was talking to a lesbian friend of mine about this, and she mentioned these traits she appreciates about her main male bias: his voice, dancing, & overall aesthetic. She said she can recognize when a dude is pretty just not into them that way yk. Of course, this just her experience, so I'm curious about others hence why I made this post. submitted by /u/Major-Specialist3658 [link] [comments]

18. Kpop song recommendation experts

  • 6 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This is a bit of a random post lol, but recently I’ve been spending more time on Reddit and so I’ve been exposed to a lot more “please recommend me songs like [xyz]” type posts on here. It made me realise that, when it comes to my favourite group (TXT), I feel like a professional in recommending their songs because I know their discography so well. As long as OP provides one or two songs that are their taste, I generally know exactly what kind of songs from my favourite group they will enjoy - makes me think if there was a degree in their discography I could get a masters in it y’know. I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way about their favourite groups! And if anyone mentally groups their fave’s discography by genre when they see these posts (like TXT would have cute/happy songs, rock vibe songs, sensual songs, etc). submitted by /u/Successful_Key8662 [link] [comments]

19. Who are your top 5 right now? (Active groups only!)

  • 6 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Who are your top 5 favorite groups or artists? Right now, for me: NMIXX IVE ITZY Le Sserafim Twice NMIXX is the new top tier for me. Every title track has been a banger, and I'm always most excited for their releases. Their Tiny Desk performance is probably my favorite KPOP performance ever. IVE just never misses. Their live vocals have gotten so good, too! Specifically Gaeul and Wonyoung have improved so much, and live vocals are a big selling point for me. Their First Take performances are so much fun. ITZY has shot up ever since the Mr Vampire release. They were unranked completely last year, and now they're third. Honestly, they could be ults, if not for Sneakers and Cake being hard skips. I was cool on LeSserafim early on, as I thought Fearless was a bit to soft for all of the hype they were building. But I fell in love with Blue Flame, and eventually came around on Antifragile and Unforgiven. Eventually, they Stockholm Syndromed me into loving their music. I'm actually gonna go see them in a few days. I don't know how this happened Because of Dreamcatcher disbanding, Twice hangs on to 5th. Idle would have taken this spot, but the Twice Enemy drop gave me that DC vibe I've been missing, so they're hanging on. The Miyeon Dance alone almost switched it up. I think I just miss old Idle, with their darker tone, and Soojin :( Rip Dreamcatcher, tho. :( submitted by /u/Juunlar [link] [comments]

20. Beyond the Album - The Secret of IVE

┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Hey everyone, today Starship Girl group IVE returns with a new min album. IVE opened up the year with IVE Empethy an album that is hard to beat cause it's been one of my favorite albums of 2025. I've been waiting for another excellent project from the group. I'm glad the group is back cause I've been obsessed with them this year. Now, let's jump into this album and see what the artist delivered. ┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛ https://preview.redd.it/nrnwung6i7lf1.jpg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26ac0bb2f8b1381a7529af3eaa0fb62d2052fd40 IVE Secret - IVE XOXZ The title track opens up the project with some thumping bass that blends perfectly with the smooth vocals the member's deliver to the table. I love the pre-chorus as it moves into the hook wonderfully. I do still see the hook growing on me the more times I've listened to this tune. The thumping bass might be one of my favorite things, as it's been pulling me back for more. The group's overall performance has helped elevate this tune as it grows on me. XOXZ is a strong opener for the project and one that I've been enjoying a lot today. https://preview.redd.it/gn4f1skdi7lf1.jpg?width=554&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c6ff4462385708c4643d1ac06140d090be49b7f »»————- ★ ————-«« Wild Bird Synths and drum machines open up the track with effects that you can hear on the drums. The smooth vocals are blending well with the instrumental. The pre-chorus, when they say girls, is one of my favorite moments before they move into the thumping hook that has been stuck in my head a lot today. The smooth performance helps elevate this tune as I've been listening to it a lot today. The bridge is a section I wish they had stripped down fully before transitioning back into the hook, but I still like that section. Wild Bird is another excellent tune, as it does a good job following after the title track. https://preview.redd.it/lty682rfi7lf1.jpg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6502e622c1607728c78e216b184bbacab705ba4f »»————- ★ ————-«« 3. Dear My Feelings IVE goes for a funky-pop tune that hit hard with the catchy melody. The vocals fit perfectly with a funky beat, which is something I enjoy hearing from IVE. The thumping pre-chorus moves terifficly into the hook that has been stuck in my head all day. The guitars add to the overall vibe fitting the sweet vocal deliveries the member provided. The bridge is another section I've been enjoying a lot as the vocals sound fantastic during that section. I'm excited to have this funky-pop song on repeat for a long time. https://preview.redd.it/tl3ml22ii7lf1.jpg?width=1271&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11015833d89d8cccbd434c152af334ae403d92df »»————- ★ ————-«« GOTCHA (Baddest Eros) As we move into the fourth song on the album, it feels like the group brought in some attitude with a dark vibe. The slick electronic beat brings in a dark vibe that blends with the smooth vocal tones. The hook is slowly growing on me, but felt like it could've been a little better. The verses are slick as the instrumental has a lot of effects on it. I'm not the biggest fan of GOTCHA (Baddest Eros), but I see it growing on me over the week as I listen to it more, which I will be doing. https://preview.redd.it/pe081kpki7lf1.jpg?width=282&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93161fcf6480c3f462c10239c4dfbab840dcb9a1 »»————- ★ ————-«« ♡Beats (삐삑) The fifth track on the project brings in a trap vibe that is slick and smooth, fitting the vocal deliveries perfectly. It didn't take me long to fall in love with this tune from top to bottom. The hook is a little bit funky during the pre-chorus before the trap vibe comes back. We do get a little rapping in the secton verse which adds to the overall direction the instrumental is going. One thing that surprised me was the switch-up during the bridge before the trap vibe returned; I wasn't expecting that moment. This track is becoming one of my favorites. https://preview.redd.it/vf8kbx5oi7lf1.jpg?width=610&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e6dbf3df3d6a6796094c8d4f3f1368bc81e54bc »»————- ★ ————-«« Midnight Kiss The closer of this album is perfect for a closer with some fantastic vocals over this smooth R&B tune. The smooth nature of the instrumental elevates the emotion from the member's beautiful vocal deliveries. The hook has been pulling me back a lot today as I can't get it out of my head. I love how vibey this tune is, from the vocals to the instrumental. During the bridge, I wish they stripped the beat down before bringing the hook back in, hitting hard then before. I still love everything that this track brought to the table, and it's one fantastic closer for this album. https://preview.redd.it/0xjwxrhqi7lf1.jpg?width=299&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37c0da7ac33fac2c779a32613d107032bd8f2ea4 ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Summary: IVE is back with a new mini album that I'm enjoying a lot, but I will say IVE Empethy is a much better album. I still love what IVE Secret brought to the table, from the vocals to the instrumental. XOXZ opens up the album in a strong direction. Dear My Feelings is a funky-pop tune that keeps pulling me back as it keeps getting stuck in my head. Midnight Kiss is an excellent closer that has some gorgeous vocals from the group. I'm glad the group is back delivering new music for us to have on repeat. ┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛ https://preview.redd.it/9ky4gkeri7lf1.jpg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43f867bd5228ea8328aae3ef9078bf3fe3bdbc1d submitted by /u/Maltifandom23 [link] [comments]

Personally, idgaf if Enhypen keeps doing the cool vampire thing for a while, because they keep releasing banger after banger. As long as they keep up the quality i will eat it up. Same with VIXX and different variations of “dark” concepts (Chained Up, Voodoo Doll, Fantasy, etc all the way up to Amnesia). They slay every time. Pentagon could keep doing silly songs like Shine, Humph!, Naughty Boy, etc and I would not complain at all. submitted by /u/Lilac-Soul [link] [comments]
