Like the title says, I’m definitely open to being proven wrong, but I don’t think I will be. I have no idea what’s going on at JYPE, but it feels like they can never quite get it right with these girls. The name is okay, the teaser trailer was underwhelming, and honestly, they don’t really give off the vibe of an American girl group. If you compare them to a group like Say Now, who are also in their 20s, there’s a noticeable difference, Say Now look like grown women, whereas Girlset comes across more like girls playing dress up. I had some hope for their new music, but then they dropped a song teaser… and it’s following the tired formula of “Western audiences like songs about money and rebellion.” That kind of music has as much depth as their old VCHA tracks basically kid-bop level. The lyrics literally go, “You keep looking at me like you want to spend some money on me, I’m like commas” on repeat. I honestly don’t know if their team has never actually listened to successful pop artists or what’s going on.
