3.142. What’s the obsession with food-themed songs?

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Why are songwriters so obsessed with food-based songs where idols compare themselves to a type of food? I never know if I’m supposed to take the song in a fun, innocent light or as a tongue-in-cheek sexual metaphor. It’s difficult to compare people to food and use words like taste, eat, and swallow without it sounding weird. Don’t know why so many groups have food themed songs 🤔 submitted by /u/skairym [link] [comments]

This one’s my favorite so far Monsta X’s Minhyuk singing Baek Yerin’s See You Again. Somehow, it makes me fall in love over and over again. So, what’s your favorite idol cover? Got any recommendations? submitted by /u/Sad-Blackberry1087 [link] [comments]

3.145. Why do ALL of the reaction channels pronounce maknae incorrectly?

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I am probably being a little over the top on this because I am learning Korean and trying to pronounce things properly, but every single reaction channel pronounces maknae as mach-nay instead of the correct mang-nay. I know this is because the Romanization includes a K and English speakers will just pronounce that as mach. And nobody ever calls them on it, I guess, because it makes you sound elite or something. All the more reason to learn just a little Hangul. OK, I'll get off my soapbox. submitted by /u/williamtkelley [link] [comments]

3.146. Fans of "Nugu" groups tend to remain silent about favoritism

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I hate whenever I discover a new bg/gg that isn't as famous as other groups and see a clear favoritism for certain members and nobody points it out. I get that in some cases the lack of lines isn't because the members are being discriminated against, but because there are people who deliver the lines better. BUT there are cases in which the favoritism is blatant and nobody points it out and instead they ignore the member. Unknown and the lesser known groups particularly tend to get away with this a lot. The group starts with the members having a similar line distribution, then the next comeback the member who does not conform the physical ideals as much as the others gets less lines and it goes downhill from there. Most of the time you notice how said member always gets worse outfits, and oh isn't it strange how in the performances he's the only one in the back being covered whenever he doesn't have to deliver his lines? And most of the times this member tends to be japanese/chinese (point here is this member tend to be non Korean). In the most infuriating cases the member that's being erased is actually one of the most talented members. And nobody speaks about it, they ignore it. I've seen this happen many times with different groups but the most recent case I could find, and what made me want to wite this post, is Amaru (Kickflip). Anyways no hate to any of the other members whatsoever but my boy Amaru, and all of the other mistreated members, deserves all the love. submitted by /u/Ch_ch_chewing_gum [link] [comments]

3.151. those who attended BP’s deadline concert in toronto, what were your thoughts on it?

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I was really excited to see the girls and I think they did a really good job with the song choices. I wanted to see rosé perform apt and that was so happy when I saw it happen. I really wish the venue was better though, no one told me it would be like a 4km walk just to get to the stadium that’s located seemingly in the middle of nowhere….. so I was late for the intro and first 3 songs and when I got there I saw that the seats didn’t even have numbers on them so I couldn’t even find mine! I was able to luckily find an empty seat but I felt really bad for the people who came even later and had to sit on the stairs. I also wish Jennie could’ve added to her solo performance with her song solo, and Lisa could’ve made an amazing entrance with her solo debut song lalisa. Those are old songs but also really iconic. I think the worst part besides getting there though was getting home…. I saw no public transit route back to mississauga and had a throbbing headache so I knew I had to find somewhere quiet to rest. Told my mom that I had taken temporary refuge in the lobby of a condo and asked her to pick me up which look a really long time due to all the traffic and blocked roads…. I couldn’t uber home because i had spent more on merch than I had anticipated, I knew it would be sort of pricey but I didn’t see $70+tax for a tshirt or even $8 for a can of pop coming! Overall I’m glad I had this experience. This was my first kpop concert ever and I think they did a great job. I think the event organization definitely could’ve been better. Getting there and back was beyond exhausting, and I wish we were given some kind of warning/clearer direction about that, and also given a heads up about the merch prices beforehand so that we could plan ahead on what we want and be prepared to pay for it. What were your thoughts on their 2 days in Toronto? Also did anyone get to personally meet any of the members somehow? submitted by /u/redlipstick1010 [link] [comments]

3.152. I’ve started to dread getting back into Kpop

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

So, for some context—I’m a hyper-fixation type of person. I have a ton of hobbies, but I focus on one at a time for a long period and then hop to the next. Kpop is one of my “hobbies” in a way, and I spend long periods of time catching up and immersing myself into Kpop before checking out and then moving onto something else. I’ll spend time focusing on some other things (like books/other communities) and then come back to Kpop after a while. And one thing I’ve noticed is, everytime I come back to Kpop, my mental health declines rapidly. I’ve been going through the latest Kpop cycle as of late, catching up with stuff and checking social media and honestly… it’s exhausting already. I’m part of a lot of other communities like booktok, the art community, marvel/DC, and other niche TV show/singer community and honestly… nothing sucks my soul more than kpop. Now I’m aware that all these communities have their own issues as well. But I think the appeal with them is that I can focus on the product that comes out of them without having to overtly engage with fandom. It’s easier to curate people with like minded opinions on a TV show in comparison to a LARGE kpop community. And more importantly, feels less icky because I’m talking about fictional people and not real ones. I guess my point is that I just feel sad that Kpop makes me feel this way. That everytime I get back into fandom spaces all I see is negativity. All I see are fandom wars on twitter for the stupidest reasons, idols being racist (what’s in the air this year seriously) and being cancelled and then idols not doing anything and also being “cancelled”. It’s just… it’s a lot. And it hurts. I’ve been a Kpop fan for close to 8 years now. I’ve seen almost a DECADE in this shit, and I’ve come to learn that more than anything, I dread it. I dread feeling excited for new releases because there’s always a caveat attached to it. Dread opening twitter because god knows which idol is going to be strung through the wringer today? And it makes me sad. Kpop is supposed to be fun… but where is the fun?? submitted by /u/Feeling_Neo [link] [comments]

3.155. the second an idol isn't laughing and smiling, fans tend to assume they're depressed

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

not saying this goes for all fans or fandoms but it's something i've noticed. just because an idol isn't smiling all the time doesn't mean they're not happy. especially as an introvert, i don't tend to show lots of emotions on my face so for all the introverted and less emotionally expressive idols, it's hard to face the hate and disappointment. submitted by /u/Separate-Addendum-52 [link] [comments]

3.156. Does SM know what they're doing with Wayv? It doesn't sound or look like it

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

What happened to their music and concept? I know they started with 127 remakes and that Love talk song demo but they eventually found their sound and image it felt like. They used to do songs like Take Back or Turn Back Time or Nectar and Miracle but now get songs that sound like Shinee demos from 2014 or 127 rejects. Why did SM change their concept so much? Their fandom seems like they left too their Spotify streams are nugu company level. What happened to them? submitted by /u/mannimonn [link] [comments]

3.158. kpop has so manyyy good songs it hurts how judged it is

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

there are so many instances when i’m listening to kpop and feel like recommending some songs to my friends but i can’t, they won’t even give them a try bcs well it’s kpop kpop is so unique, the concepts, the groups, the music shows, albums, merch, fan culture everything is so different and it’s fun, some groups are soo creative with their music, and omg the production quality is insane, like the mvs, choreos, vocals, lyrics, concerts ??????? i know kpop is quite big rn but i feel like it would be more mainstream and more ‘accepted’ if people weren’t so rigid about their opinions on it, i mean it is still very heavily judged and ngl the sense of community with fandoms feels amazing, ofc there are the downsides but like every industry is problematic in some ways, and honestly ever since i’ve become a kpop stan, i’ve become more aware about various issues, im open to discussions on such topics when it comes to ‘hating’ on kpop but blatant hate bcs its korean music? nah 💀 all in all i just wish people would be more open to kpop, i just wanna recommend songs i love doing that but don’t have the right audience 💔 submitted by /u/flwrbts [link] [comments]

3.159. give me strong, powerful performance kpop songs

  • 1 month ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

what are some great performance songs? the non-casual listening ones, the title tracks, powerful and energetic songs groups would perform at year-end music awards shows, songs that are better enjoyed with a choreography. my favourites are: dionysus and idol by bts, ember to solar by riize, drunk dazed by enhypen, monster by exo, answer and wonderland by ateez submitted by /u/seigfried0401 [link] [comments]
