https://youtu.be/eU8w4KxoyRk?si=8I4ZncPYc7N9uss4 I just came across this YouTube video about the simarities between sports and pop culture fandoms and religion. As a religious person who's been off and on with how serious I'm taking my religion, I can really relate to the video and can make direct comparisons between what I do in my religion and what I do while stanning TWICE (my ults), like buying merch, going to concerts, and meeting other ONCEs for a sense of community. I really relate with the point in the video where the creator said during concerts or sports matches, the individual boundaries of the fans blur and they feel united in something greater than themselves. TWICE is very mainstream in Japan so I can see all sorts of people when I go to their concerts here. From kids to old people, high schoolers to parents, men, women, office workers, to celebrities and other idols. They wear merch or try to replicate a costume from MVs or music show promos. Everyone sheds their individual identity and transforms into their ONCE "persona" for a few hours. I'm curious if anyone else, religious or not, have similar experiences with their ults, or maybe if anyone have interesting personal anecdotes to share about how stanning a group feels like a religious activities. submitted by /u/GaurdsGuards [link] [comments]

I've been a fan for a long time and this has always annoyed me so I'm here to rant. Everyone says "idols are people just like us!" like yes, exactly. People just like us, people like your racist cousin, like your homophobic coworker, like your zionist neighbour, your cheating ex, etc. You see my point. They just hide it well, that's what they were taught and some didn't even need to be taught. I just don't understand why that's so hard to understand. I'm not saying we should assume they're all bad. It's just that most probably they do have opinions you won't agree with. If you think they are perfect and align with all the values you hold, you're just fooling yourself. Like tell me how many people in your life do? I say fans don't have life experience because all I said above should be a given. People lie, why is it so common for fans to trust their idols blindly so much? I do wonder if it's a culture thing, as I'm from the Balkans, I've definitely found some similarities in the way people, especially older people think here and in South Korea. Like I know Taegyung recently got some heat for saying he loves cola and I know that if you explained the situation to someone here they'll laugh at your face. I'm in the minority when I care about things like this and I wish he did but I know he doesn't care either. (I also have a more controversial take: I think fans who admit their fave is a POS and still love them are smarter than those who say their fave is ignorant or they didn't know any better lol) submitted by /u/puppyradio [link] [comments]

Hey y’all, I’ve been looking to get into some new girl groups and I thought this sub would be the perfect place to ask. Can you recommend me some of your favorite girl groups (especially newer ones)? I’d love if you could also tell me a bit about them — like their concept, how many members they have, and maybe which member(s) you personally like the most or think stand out. submitted by /u/Important-Sea7093 [link] [comments]
