the truth that everyone likes to ignore: the amount of international fans having a weird obsession with “professionalism” and “stage presence” until it comes to male idols lol suddenly their mistakes on stage are cute and understandable, suddenly they’re concerned when a male idol appears tired or sick on stage and suddenly they have all this compassion towards their health and well being. everything that comes out of their mouth stems from internal misogyny and thats why most of them resonate with Korea so well. they relate to a country that’s known for their extreme misogyny and blatant hatred towards women in every shape or form lol this isnt just for blackpink, its for almost every female idols and group out there. twice tzuyu, jeon somi, BM ahyeon, etc. especially the slutshaming Lisa is facing right now, its hilarious cause what she does is such a problem but when their favorite male idol is half naked on stage, it’s “😍😍😍😍” submitted by /u/Which_Mammoth9402 [link] [comments]

Disclaimer: I'm in no way an expert, nor in marketing, nor in any music production field. This is merely my thoughts as a consumer of Kpop contents. OK, "survive" is maybe a strong word but hear me out. A lot of people will agree that as of today, the Kpop industry is quite saturated. A lot of groups are debuting each year, and even if we are in the 5th gen, 3rd gen groups are still around and going strong, with regular comebacks and tours. The result is that if a group wants to get attention, it needs IMO a strong concept to stand out from the mass. A strong concept is not necessarily something loud or "girl-crush", but rather a way to market the group in which, when the general public sees something unrelated, they can instantly think "oh this is so X or Y coded!". A good example would be ILLIT. Despite a rather difficult first year, they debuted with a concept that's instantly recognized. And throughtout their comebacks (Korean and Japanese), they maintained their "magical girl" concept in such a way that they built their brand around this identity. Today, when an ILLIT song plays out, anyone who keeps an eye out on Kpop won't be surprised that it's by them, it makes sense. As for a counterexample, I'd say that Hearts2Hearts is a good one. I love the girls, and what they've been releasing so far, but I can't help myself from wishing that SM would give them a stronger concept. What they had going on for The Chase was really interesting, this dreamy vibe, but Style went quite against it, and FOCUS, while it has some elements reminiscent of The Chase, is quite on its own too. The effect is that any group could have released these songs without people thinking "wait, it should have been H2H." I think it's too bad, given the state of the industry. I'm not afraid for Hearts2Hearts - they are from a Big 4 company and the girls are talented, I know they'll manage. But I would have loved it if SM went big into creating a brand around the group, as they did with Aespa at their debut. As of now, I fear that H2H is not yet distinguishable enough from the mass of other girlgroups around. I focused on the two 5th gen girlgroups I'm most familiar about, so I'm not sure that they are the best examples, just the ones that poped into my head. What are your thoughts about this subject? Okay so I don't really want an objective score or ranking but an honest subjective understanding of their vocals. Personally I really enjoy all of their voices but lean more towards jungkook and jin's voice more. They all add a different flavour to the group songs and I really admire that. But what bugs me is that when people talk about their vocals they are all looking at it retrospectively rather than look at their recent vocal growths. So I would like to discuss their vocals considering their last live performance or even in their solo albums( pls don't review the albums. Just the vocal skills showcased on them) Best example being jin. People don't look at his recent performances and straight up say he is not good and should stick to this genre and stuff like that. Some even say he is not good and that's why he has least lines in the group songs. I can't really pass out judgement on their vocals when it comes to technicality but I would like to read about such stuff more. Pls be nice guys and don't be biased. Am I the only one who constantly thinks about this? I personally find it sad that first generation groups (Seo Taiji and Boys, Shinhwa, S.E.S, Fin.K.L, g.o.d etc.) still remain largely unknown, especially among K-Pop fans in the West. Most of their concerts are only held within South Korea, with the occasional Asia-wide tour. But these groups all helped, aesthetically and musically, to lay the path for the newer groups we all know and love, and it would be cool to share an influential part of the history of K-Pop with younger and new fans.
