Look. I know there are bunch of good things about kpop. But lately the toxic sides have been so overwhelming to think about. So many groups with minors debuting, rcism, msogyny, hateful fans that bodyshame, subreddit that s*xualise kpop idols (even minor kpop idols). The normalization of surgeries, heavy filters... it just feels so manufactored and as a young person it feels weird to see all those "perfect looking" humans. I would not want to support minors debuting so I have searched what groups have minors and avoid listening to them. I keep thinking how these young girls and boys are trained so harshly and put through horrible stuff. It is so hard to know if the idols truly enjoy their job, especially if it is a minor. I know that music consumption does not need to be that serious and you can separate the art from the artist but I am seriously getting tired and do not feel comfortable supporting groups like unis, with a member that debuted at 13 years old. The constant scandals, rude fans that critique idols breathing or other fans all different opinions... I feel like I should maybe take a break. submitted by /u/Impressive_Cod9892 [link] [comments]

i've been seeing a lot of unnecessary criticism towards an yujinâs cover of âgolden,â mostly about âtoo much autotuneâ or that her vocals are somehow less valid because of pitch correction. honestly, people looking for something to complain about. autotune is everywhere in kpop, and itâs not inherently a bad thing. Itâs a tool used to smooth out tiny imperfections, add stylistic color, or create a certain vibe. people are acting like yujinâs cover is robotic or talentless just because of some pitch correction, autotune canât make a bad vocal sound amazing. You NEED to have a good base vocal for autotune to work properlyâotherwise, it just sounds messy or unfixable. case in point: a lot of people praise kim dahyeâs cover of âgolden,â yet itâs clearly autotuned too and I donât see the same complaints. why the double standard? autotune is part of the modern pop sound, and itâs not cheating if the end result sounds good. stop hating please there's nothing to hate abt submitted by /u/luv_lars [link] [comments]
When I see stans glazing male idols for "looking away" when female idols are twerking or dancing. "He is so respectful, my feminist king!" Doesn't sit right with me submitted by /u/Expensive_Age_3266 [link] [comments]

It's that time of the year again! The Census will open on August 1st. THIS POST is to get the Favorite Artists lists updated for 2025 so you'll be able to vote for the Groups and Soloists you want. Please check through the Google Doc linked below along with the table here for the artists you want to vote for. There are four tabs at the bottom of the doc. There are tabs for the 2025 Groups and 2025 Soloists that will definitely be in the Census. There are also tabs that have the Groups and Soloists who got less than 10 votes in last year's Census. In the Census, you will be able to select up to 10 total Groups and up to 10 total Soloists. You may select less than that, but the maximum for each category is 10. In the comments, you may do any of the following: Request any Groups at all, including any that debuted since the previous Census. Resurrect any Groups from the 2024 <10 Groups list you plan to vote for. Request any Soloists that meet the criteria explained below. Resurrect any Soloists in the 2024 <10 Soloists list you plan to vote for. Census Artist Lists Doc (Tabs might be at the bottom on desktop browser and along the top on mobile!) Soloist Criteria We'll maintain some minor requirements for any soloists who originally debuted in a group to qualify for our Soloists list. Any artist who originally debuted as a soloist automatically qualifies. Any artist who originally debuted in a now disbanded/inactive group, and has been active as a soloist since then, automatically qualifies. Any artist who originally debuted in a group and is still active with that group needs to meet at least ONE of these criteria: They have released at least one solo album with a minimum of 5 tracks. They have released at least 10 combined singles / features / OSTs outside of their group's albums. Note! If there is a soloist you want to vote for that is reaaally close to meeting the criteria and is likely to release more music in the next couple months we'll probably include them, so just make a case for them and we'll assess! Go ahead and make your requests freely in the comments! I'll be updating this table with the artists getting added in this year and then gradually updating the lists in the doc as we go. We'll continue to take further requests while the Census is running so don't worry if you miss out here, it just helps me out a lot to get as much done now before we finalize the Census form! ONLY REQUEST ARTISTS YOU PLAN TO VOTE FOR !! TL;DR: Look at the <10 tabs in the Google Doc linked above. If there is an artist you want to vote for in the Census and they aren't listed in this table down below yet, request them in comments. Also, any brand new artists that aren't listed in this table below yet, request them in comments. Someone whoâs been in a coma for 10 years has just woken up. Their only ever exposure to kpop was back in 2012 with âGangnam Styleâ and since theyâve been in a coma, they have no idea how big kpop has gotten over the years. Youâve been tasked with helping them adjust to the new world theyâre living in. They mention that theyâve been hearing a lot about this âkpop thingâ and theyâd like to know more about it. What 5 songs would you show them first and why? submitted by /u/Strawberry_0cean [link] [comments]

what are your thoughts on this newly debuted bg AHOF? despite having the 2nd highest 1st-week sales among kpop rookie groups who debuted in 2025 and being the 2nd fastest rookie group to win a music show, the GP says otherwise and may still consider them as nugu. some ppl say that their achievements were just bc of their dedicated fanbase and not bc of their popularity submitted by /u/Better_Internet1123 [link] [comments]
I recently stumbled into the world of snark subs, and⌠wow. I had no idea these kinds of communities even existed, and now that Iâve seen them, I canât stop thinking about how strange their whole vibe is. At first glance, I thought maybe it was just a space for people to vent or discuss things more critically. But after spending some time reading through posts, it became really clear that most of these subs aren't about criticism and itâs like a gathering of people who are way too emotionally invested in what they supposedly "donât care about" anymore. These subs feel like theyâre full of femcels/incels people who sound like bitter ex-girlfriends or boyfriends trying to convince themselves that being "rejected" was a good thing. They post like theyâve been personally wronged and now need to "warn others" or "expose the truth." Itâs giving âI never wanted them anyway" energy, while clearly still obsessed. The level of delusion is wild. What struck me the most was how often they try to frame their snark as "critical thinking" or "being honest" when itâs often just petty, mean-spirited takes .And weirdly enough, for communities that are supposedly over their former faves, they sure spend a lot of time talking about them. Also... thereâs this really unsettling tendency in some of these subs to infantilize women. They swing from acting like theyâre helpless victims to bashing them harshly in the same breath. It's contradictory and uncomfortable to read. I get that people outgrow fandoms. I get that idols arenât perfect. But most what I saw in these snark subs feels like projections, not thoughtful discussions. submitted by /u/Narrow_Start_5340 [link] [comments]

I started listening to bts 2 years back there were korean songs i didn't prefer in the beginning only english ones or where a little mix of both the languages but as the time passed now after two years here i am listening every song with such admiration i guess its just the fan in me but no doubt one of the best kpop discography. My current favourite is the truth untold. submitted by /u/tablespoonpasta [link] [comments]
I know Iâm probably gonna get hated on so much if people respond to this, but Iâm just kind of disappointed. They said that they were gonna be returning to their roots and making new songs in song camp style, and then they are living in LA for the entire time and now just like wearing all sorts of LA shit and like I donât know... like J-Hope on the 10 year anniversary of BTS releases killing it girl like practically kissing another girl like yes I love her. Iâm so glad of it but like Iâm just saying I donât know how is this returning to their roots? I donât know. Iâm just venting. I love them so much and Iâve waited so long for them to come out the military and I just feel like itâs not the same genuine BTS that I once loved. and I just saw J-Hope in concert in March for hundreds and hundreds of dollars after being in the hospital two times in a row a week prior so like donât even call me a hater Iâm just saying it does not seem like the genuine BTS it seems like.... I donât know. Maybe Iâll feel differently when their music comes out but how is becoming like Mr. LAâs returning to their roots? TLDR: Iâm disappointed because BTS said they were returning to their roots, and instead it feels like theyâre leaning into LA aesthetics and industry culture. I feel emotionally disconnected from the group I once loved deeply, especially after putting so much into supporting them. This doesnât feel like the same BTS to me right now, and itâs heartbreaking. submitted by /u/Invisible_Rain11 [link] [comments]

Yes I enjoy kpop and ik *not every fan is like this* but majority are and donât realize it. Kpop fans ruin their own reputation. âKpoppers get such a bad rep đĽşâ Maybe because half of yâall act like your under the age of 12, I see so much people saying how they want idols to date publicly or eat and then will shame on them for doing both. Iâm the only person who likes kpop in my friend group and the reason is because most kpop fans are weird lol. No not every place is Korea âkatseye is so raunchy and donât fit Korean beauty standards đĽşâ maybe because theyâre a GLOBAL group. A lot of you guys donât know how annoying you are for example donât post your favorite idols tasking people to rate them.. yk damn well Thoose Redditors also rank models the reason they arenât ranking your fav idols a 10 is because they donât have too, same for people who unfriend people because they like Aesepa and you like bts or something. A lot of you guys donât even know how parasocial you are. No your boyfriend from ph1 isnât cheating on you. No this member hates the other members there coworkers. Anime fans have the same bad reputation for being weird yet anime has been more socially reputable and the biggest reason is because they know there dream anime girl or whatever is not going to come alive; itâs fictional but for some reason you guys think your favorite idols gonna parade you with hearts because you PAID to see a CELEBRITY. Another thing too, Koreans arenât naturally pale stop telling other Koreans or tanner asains they arenât asain bc ânatural asains are paleâ no half of there skincare includes brighter/skin whitening and sunblock, parasols are popular there because of beauty standards.đItâs even worse because Ik 70% of yâall arenât from Korea nor Korean, why worry about other people? My first Interaction with a kpop fan was her litterally telling me I wouldnât be liked in Korea because I donât fit there culture and standards but I never said I wanted to go to Korea (I said I wanted to go to thailand first of all) Iâm fine with having a curvy body idgaf if my idols arenât attracted to it because I know Iâm a fan đ. Iâm also not only talking about people who want to romance there idols either, a lot of girl group fans are like this aswell. The word âSTANâ shouldâve never been seen as a positive thing because itâs always meant stalker. The way I can tell off the bat when someoneâs a kpop Stan is always by there obsession with Korea, sensitivity, extreme bias and overall global perspective and thinking skills because the âaverage kpop fanâ stereotype didnât come from nowhere. And I know Iâm gonna have to say it again not every kpop fan but in general if your offended about this itâs probably about you because this is coming FROM a kpop fan this isnât even a personal attack đ submitted by /u/Bubblehospital [link] [comments]
