Look. I know there are bunch of good things about kpop. But lately the toxic sides have been so overwhelming to think about. So many groups with minors debuting, rcism, msogyny, hateful fans that bodyshame, subreddit that s*xualise kpop idols (even minor kpop idols). The normalization of surgeries, heavy filters... it just feels so manufactored and as a young person it feels weird to see all those "perfect looking" humans. I would not want to support minors debuting so I have searched what groups have minors and avoid listening to them. I keep thinking how these young girls and boys are trained so harshly and put through horrible stuff. It is so hard to know if the idols truly enjoy their job, especially if it is a minor. I know that music consumption does not need to be that serious and you can separate the art from the artist but I am seriously getting tired and do not feel comfortable supporting groups like unis, with a member that debuted at 13 years old. i've been seeing a lot of unnecessary criticism towards an yujin’s cover of “golden,” mostly about “too much autotune” or that her vocals are somehow less valid because of pitch correction. honestly, people looking for something to complain about. autotune is everywhere in kpop, and it’s not inherently a bad thing. It’s a tool used to smooth out tiny imperfections, add stylistic color, or create a certain vibe. people are acting like yujin’s cover is robotic or talentless just because of some pitch correction, autotune can’t make a bad vocal sound amazing. You NEED to have a good base vocal for autotune to work properly—otherwise, it just sounds messy or unfixable. case in point: a lot of people praise kim dahye’s cover of “golden,” yet it’s clearly autotuned too and I don’t see the same complaints. why the double standard? autotune is part of the modern pop sound, and it’s not cheating if the end result sounds good. stop hating please there's nothing to hate abt submitted by /u/luv_lars [link] [comments]

It's that time of the year again! The Census will open on August 1st. THIS POST is to get the Favorite Artists lists updated for 2025 so you'll be able to vote for the Groups and Soloists you want. Please check through the Google Doc linked below along with the table here for the artists you want to vote for. There are four tabs at the bottom of the doc. There are tabs for the 2025 Groups and 2025 Soloists that will definitely be in the Census. There are also tabs that have the Groups and Soloists who got less than 10 votes in last year's Census. In the Census, you will be able to select up to 10 total Groups and up to 10 total Soloists. You may select less than that, but the maximum for each category is 10. In the comments, you may do any of the following: Request any Groups at all, including any that debuted since the previous Census. Resurrect any Groups from the 2024 <10 Groups list you plan to vote for. Request any Soloists that meet the criteria explained below. Resurrect any Soloists in the 2024 <10 Soloists list you plan to vote for. Census Artist Lists Doc (Tabs might be at the bottom on desktop browser and along the top on mobile!) Soloist Criteria We'll maintain some minor requirements for any soloists who originally debuted in a group to qualify for our Soloists list. Any artist who originally debuted as a soloist automatically qualifies. Any artist who originally debuted in a now disbanded/inactive group, and has been active as a soloist since then, automatically qualifies. Any artist who originally debuted in a group and is still active with that group needs to meet at least ONE of these criteria: They have released at least one solo album with a minimum of 5 tracks. I recently stumbled into the world of snark subs, and… wow. I had no idea these kinds of communities even existed, and now that I’ve seen them, I can’t stop thinking about how strange their whole vibe is. At first glance, I thought maybe it was just a space for people to vent or discuss things more critically. But after spending some time reading through posts, it became really clear that most of these subs aren't about criticism and it’s like a gathering of people who are way too emotionally invested in what they supposedly "don’t care about" anymore. These subs feel like they’re full of femcels/incels people who sound like bitter ex-girlfriends or boyfriends trying to convince themselves that being "rejected" was a good thing. They post like they’ve been personally wronged and now need to "warn others" or "expose the truth." It’s giving “I never wanted them anyway" energy, while clearly still obsessed. The level of delusion is wild. What struck me the most was how often they try to frame their snark as "critical thinking" or "being honest" when it’s often just petty, mean-spirited takes .And weirdly enough, for communities that are supposedly over their former faves, they sure spend a lot of time talking about them. Also... there’s this really unsettling tendency in some of these subs to infantilize women. They swing from acting like they’re helpless victims to bashing them harshly in the same breath. It's contradictory and uncomfortable to read. I get that people outgrow fandoms. I get that idols aren’t perfect. I know I’m probably gonna get hated on so much if people respond to this, but I’m just kind of disappointed. They said that they were gonna be returning to their roots and making new songs in song camp style, and then they are living in LA for the entire time and now just like wearing all sorts of LA shit and like I don’t know... like J-Hope on the 10 year anniversary of BTS releases killing it girl like practically kissing another girl like yes I love her. I’m so glad of it but like I’m just saying I don’t know how is this returning to their roots? I don’t know. I’m just venting. I love them so much and I’ve waited so long for them to come out the military and I just feel like it’s not the same genuine BTS that I once loved. and I just saw J-Hope in concert in March for hundreds and hundreds of dollars after being in the hospital two times in a row a week prior so like don’t even call me a hater I’m just saying it does not seem like the genuine BTS it seems like.... I don’t know. Maybe I’ll feel differently when their music comes out but how is becoming like Mr. LA’s returning to their roots? TLDR: I’m disappointed because BTS said they were returning to their roots, and instead it feels like they’re leaning into LA aesthetics and industry culture. I feel emotionally disconnected from the group I once loved deeply, especially after putting so much into supporting them.
