Is the "lack of a concept/sound" of a group an issue for fans or listeners?

This is something I've been thinking about and I often see posts or comments criticising a group's "lack of sound/concept" when a song they release is not well liked or strays away from the usual sound of the group. But this begs the question of do most groups even have that well defined of a sound. Especially 5th gen groups who have not even completed 2 whole years and might still be evolving in their musicality. Illit and NCT Wish seem to be two 5th gen groups who've naturally settled into a concept perhaps. NCT 127 and SKZ have always had a defining sound too. But there are so many other groups that have songs that are just generic pop stuff and while the songs themselves are good, it's not like they have a concept or unique sound attached to the group. So I wanted to know your thoughts on it. And which groups in your opinion would be good examples of unique concepts/sound and others that don't have a concept in particular but still have great music. submitted by /u/Chutneysandwich16 [link] [comments]

1.038. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF AHOF? HOW NUGU IS THEM?

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

First of all, I'm commenting and seeing things as an amti, so that I would know how to support them as fan. So please don't be triggered hehe... Hi! Alr! Before anything else, Im asking this cus I'm genuinely curious. Does anyone of you know AHOF? Objectively, I believe AHOF fans are mostly international (and I think Filipinos). Yes, the members are talented but the issue is that— kpop isn’t talent alone, you need to be visible and to be known— it is not enough to have many fans from abroad (outside korea), they have to be famous locally to last long. So, long story short, we cannot say that AHOF skipped nugudom, coz they're just about to start. We'll definitely see after the hype of being freshly debut fades out. Anyways, here are the things I'm proud of: 1. They came from svs show that isn't even famous in Korea. It is a non Mnet svs and if i am not mistaken, there are a lot of issues in Korea when it was airing, making it more invisible(??). They are the second group, and the first boy group of a turning 4-yr-old company. Though F&F undeniably has their funds soo we cannot say that they're weak company wise. They are mostly foreigner, which shows the reason why they might have a hard time in korea. They performed predebut in a quite big (but not so) music festival MYK Festa. Though I don't know if that helped them to gain fans. They won a music show on day 8th of them debut. Though it SBS The Show is not that big and is really meant for rookies. First day records— 70k first day album sale even tho qr versions had a problem, and 3.6 M vies in debut mv release. Bottom line, they're doing quite good but is substantially still lacking compared to big groups. My point is, what do you think of AHOF? All comments even brutal truths are accepted! And pls, nameless fandom (i hope we can have yeolobun? hehe), don't be defensive! Thanks! What do you guys think of them? submitted by /u/CitySquare132 [link] [comments]

1.039. I don’t understand the hate for i-dle’s “Good Thing” era

  • 1 week ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

This recent comeback season for i-dle has left me really shocked at the general public and even neverland’s reaction towards the entire era. I personally am not a neverland but I’ve watched and listened to i-dle’s comebacks pretty casually and from the side lines so I’m pretty used to the typical k-pop stan reaction of hating the song, hating the lyrics, and overall hate i-dle receives but I feel like this is the first time it really took a toll on their numbers and even the fandom. The amount of neverlands I see posting about leaving the fandom, how this comeback was their last straw, how they feel the group has stagnated etc etc just leaves me confused because why NOW. A lot of the issues people and fans have for this era are things I’ve seen, heard and have been critiqued of i-dle since I want to say tomboy and pretty much every single comeback following it. It’s always about Soyeon’s production, the english lyrics, some of the members’ performances and talents etc, so I thought it would’ve died down like it normally does or the success would’ve balanced all the criticism and/ or hate, especially because I felt like this era was perfectly aligned for what people expect and LIKE from i-dle. I know it was probably spear headed by their rebrand, especially the re-recorded version of their ot6 songs since that’s where I saw the hate for this era really started but again I thought it would’ve subsided since this comeback has almost everything neverland’s normally gas i-dle up for and the sound/ production people BEGGED to come back during “KLAXON” (which ngl I also liked it was FUN) I understand music taste is subjective but I personally LOVED “Good Thing”, maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but I think it’s one of their best title tracks of their ot5 era, IDK I thought it was super fun, super catchy and for ME super refreshing and what I wanted and really like for idle. IDK I just find it surprising that out of all of i-dle’s “controversial” and “hated” title tracks / eras “Good Thing” would be the one to actually be their “downfall” (they’re still doing incredibly well im just saying in comparison to their insane run from 2022-2024, and again I LOVED this era) There really isn’t any point to this rant since I know generally what caused the decline for this comeback comes down to the performances, the ot5 and official death of (g)-idle rebrand (don’t quote me but from what I heard the rebrand even impacted charts due to name changes ALLEGEDLY IDK IDK), but I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions, ESPECIALLY if you’re someone who didn’t like this era. submitted by /u/nuluvbo [link] [comments]

1.040. Do you think there are any idols or groups who regret leaving their label to join another?

  • reddit.com language

For example, I don't know much about Somi, but I've seen her complain about the lack of comebacks she's getting with The Black Label, and even though she just had one, it doesn't seem to be getting the same level of attention as before. Do you think she regrets leaving JYPE? submitted by /u/Someonehihi [link] [comments]

1.054. OP called Lara Raj a baddie and got dislikes on their comment...

  • 1 week ago schedule

For context, the op was asking for some advice on how to "pull a baddie" and a person asked what a baddie is, OP said that Lara is a baddie for OP, and at random this person comments "You're gonna marry this type of girl?" OP said "What do you mean, what's wrong with her?" "Girls who behave bitchy in front of others aren't trust worthy, at least for me" and added "everyone else has their own free will until their own turn" (this last part I didn't really understand what they were trying to say so I translated it word to word...?) submitted by /u/Dash_tea_L [link] [comments]
