K-pop, even from the first and second generations, has always had its foot in western influences for sure, like obviously we had Kesha and Dr Luke selling demos to SNSD and shit like that. It's never been J-pop levels of idiosyncratic, but even still, there was definitely very much "a sound" that you didn't really find in its entirety in western pop. Now though, it honestly feels like almost everything is just biting off of current western trends to the T, there's a lot more foreign outsourcing to production groups in the US and Sweden rather than domestic circles now. And that's not to say it's bad or anything, like at all; there's a lot of stuff I still really like right now, but it's definitely feeling like I care less and less about what's new and hot right now unless it does something to really make me go "oh, this is new/refreshing/nostalgic" right out the gate. We're not getting these aegyo/girlcrush concept levels of "uniquely South Korean" anymore. It's definitely making it harder to find anything that feels "worth" listening to now, is my problem. It's like okay why would I listen to this new K-pop group doing soft liquid DnB stuff when I could just listen to Pinkpantheress or Piri do it better, y'know? Or why would I listen to XYZ group doing trap sounds when I could just listen to any rapper at all, or a synthwavey throwback song when I could just listen to like The Midnight or even Carly Rae Jepsen? The DnB/jersey thing was novel when NewJeans first came on the scene doing it, but now it's like every fucking agency saw how trendy that was and oversaturated the market in less than two years. And I get that's how trends work, but it hasn't gotten this stale this fast before. Maybe I just want that sugary aegyo stuff again, it's honestly refreshing when I hear a newer song doing that sound again, which is kind of ironic. Maybe I'm just getting older. Maybe it really is boring. I don't think this'll last forever or anything, I honestly think this TikTok era of immediate oversaturation and moving onto the next thing all-too-fast isn't sustainable and we're already starting to see it die off this year, which like, fucking awesome, good riddance, let's hurry it along and get back to doing things the right way. Man maybe I am old, I sound like a fucking boomer saying that. idk, maybe I'm not articulating the thought accurately right now because I'm hella burnt out rn, I just feel like the bubble is ready to burst. At least the Demon Hunters soundtrack was kinda cool. I feel like they made that shit knowing their target demographic was like second/third gen K-pop fans who were there in the mid/late-2010s. submitted by /u/TomoAries [link] [comments]

just as the title says, i wanna know if you guys have groups where you tune into every comeback of, but you don’t really know much about the members and things? for me, that’s aespa. i have been listening to every comeback since their ‘’my world’ comeback, but i have not found a favorite member yet. i’m kinda leaning towards ningning or giselle ?), but i just have never learned much about them as a group and have never really wanted to? maybe i will soon, but yeah! submitted by /u/0tpwk0 [link] [comments]

Hi everyone! This is Joanne from Taiwan but am currently living in Korea. I’m building StarTalk—an app (by me, MA in Korean Language Education from SNU) that mixes AI star chats, clear translations (EN / zh-TW), and learn-as-you-chat Korean. We’re running a short 7 minute survey to understand what fans really need. Who this is for K-pop fans who chat on fandom apps or join lives/votes Anyone curious about learning Korean through fan interactions What we’re studying Message cadence & quality (paying for “quiet months”) Translation pain (taps, slang/wordplay, zh-TW wording) One hub for official actions (live / shop / vote) In-chat learning (highlights, TTS, romanization, mini practice) Why it matters Your answers directly shape StarTalk’s features and priorities. Languages: English / Traditional Chinese (Taiwan, zh-TW) Time: 7 minutes Privacy: Anonymous; optional email only if you want focus group invite or priority access Incentive (optional): We’ll randomly pick a few respondents for small perks / early beta slots. I'm wondering who would be good picks as hosts for the weekly music programs, I'm quite new to kpop but I've been enjoying the friendly banter shown between duos especially on Music Bank. submitted by /u/peppermintdood [link] [comments]
IVE's XOXZ features it heavily, Aespa's teaser had them in a truck bowling alley, KiiKii's Strawberry Cheesegame has it in the M/V, and a couple days ago Le Sserafim put out a video of them going bowling. There could be more that I'm not aware of but this is a lot of bowling for a short amount of time! This is just a weird trend I noticed and I'm so curious if it's a coincidence or if this is like, some wonderful niche cultural thing for this time of year or something. submitted by /u/BloodChicken [link] [comments]
I'm curious about the academic lives of the BTS members, especially during their early years. We often hear about how they supported each other professionally, but I was wondering about their personal lives. Did Jin, as the oldest member, ever help the younger ones with their school or university studies? It would be interesting to hear any stories or quotes about him helping the others with their homework or assignments. Thanks for any insights you can share! submitted by /u/StrictPrize2040 [link] [comments]
The main chorus started with "I'll make your mind go Tornado" I started swaying my hips on my bed lmao. Honestly this beat to me feels so summer coded & I love how this girl is so passionate about music, letting fans be a part of her song snippets time & again. I remember hearing the Dopamine chorus the first time and I just couldn't help grooving to it too! I downloaded a botched tour audio to listen to until they released it finally. That seems to be the case again lol cause her solos are a hit for me since first listen! Her vocals are so dreamy and entracing, she really made my mind go tornado! Also she seems so happy to be performing this! I hope this is on streaming soon! And I'm so so desperate for her solo debut cause she's a very talented all rounder & enjoys the process of creating music & sharing it with Aerishines! Hope she can be free of SM sabotaging & have a fun and great solo career in future! submitted by /u/No_Olive_229 [link] [comments]

Considering how packed and overworked their schedule has been this year, It makes me think next year they will focus more on individual careers and scale back on group activities. Since they’re entering their 5th year, I think they deserve stronger solo pushes from SM. At the same time, SM probably starts positioning H2H as their main GG with better promotions and resources.
