Last september, Yeonjun made noise with his first mixtape, GGUM, a hip hop track very different from TXT's original concept. I liked this choice for him because something less dramatic wouldve been forgotten within a week. I also loved the lyrics, talking about his hard work towards his idol dream 'Been dreaming for this moment Started from my little room' 'I stick to this scene I've endured and come this far' . For his solo track on The Star Chapter :Together released late july, he picked Ghost Girl, a reggae rock track co-written by YUNGBLUD. I absolutely adored it, and it was well received by the fandom, charting side by side on kcharts with the title track 'Beautiful Strangers'. Some days ago, Yeonjun went live on his instagram (@yawnzzn) for the first time ever. The live lasted about 40 seconds, collecting around 100k views . The recording, shared by fans on twitter, showed Yeonjun in his most casual attire ( a rick owens vest along with jeans under a skirt orned with a fashionable belt and shoes bigger than my will to live ) moving along a music snippet. The potential new track is everything i could hope for: heavy guitar, drums, based on the lyrics 'wanna talk to you' sung with determination, i'm sensing a romantic hard rock track. Needless to say i am more than excited as rock is my favorite genre at the moment. I am hoping the album is 5 tracks long or more, I'd love a RnB track from him as well as something more acoustic sounding. To be sincere, Yeonjun is probably the member i have the least in common with on a music taste level ,his recommandations shifting between what i would play during a warm afternoon and the soundtrack of a late night drive. Still he shared that he liked city pop, and recommended some artists i do listen to regularly like laufey, mitski, kendrick lamar and beabadoobee so i hope we get a track reminiscient of those sides of him. Back in the late 2000s (this was when I was in high school!) Wonder Girls were one of the biggest names in K-pop and even tried to break into the U.S. market with “Nobody.” They were on the Jonas Brothers tour, performed on American TV, and had some exposure but they never reached the level of mainstream or international success that we now see with groups like Blackpink, BTS, or even newer ones like NewJeans. That made me wonder, do you think Wonder Girls couldn’t achieve long term U.S. or global success? Was it management decisions or just that K-pop wasn’t as globally popular yet? My cousin was a big fan of Super Junior, TVXQ, Sister, etc, and had many kpop posters on his bedroom walls. Naturally whenever I was at his place to visit, I was enamored by cool looking posters with wild and crazy outfits and hair, 8 year old me was hooked. I got into 2ne1, girls generation, VIXX and my ults at the time, exo. Very quickly BTS debuted and I was hooked deep into kpop for years, I kept up with all the news, comebacks, nugu groups that had no mvs and the songs were only playable on niche streaming sites. Learned dances, the entire kpop fan experience. Then i just kinda died out, the market got oversaturated, the groups I like either disbanded or started making music I felt eh about. Le Sserafim and twice kept me going but after (twice) chaeyeons scandal thats kinda when I fully checked out. 2025 has been a disaster in kpop when it comes to controversy (Tarzan im glaring at you) and mixed opinions on comebacks. I want to get back into it, invest my time in lore and fun Fandom moments. But how? I don't even know which groups to start with, I like boy and girl groups, all genres im open to. Imagine I was a brand new kpop fan, what songs would you tell me to add to a Playlist to get back into kpop. Usually when news or announcements drop, regardless of the content, there's usually some kind of build up to it. Maybe not regular updates about upcoming news, but just seeing how things had been progressing from the public eye, you weren't really surprised. For example, I don't think anyone was surprised when some Red Velvet members didn't resign. Saddened maybe, definitely. But not surprised. I'm asking if there's a news that dropped so suddenly or out of the blue that you can truly say you didn't see it coming. I'll say I was caught off guard when the news broke that Everglow hadn't received monetary compensation over the course of their career. You could argue it isn't that surprising considering the way their contract was likely set up, like after the news dropped and people started connecting the dots to find the reason they ended up in that situation.
