This megathread is about the ongoing dispute within HYBE and the management of sub-label ADOR. Substantial news developments may be posted to the subreddit (outside of the Megathreads). Moderators will only approve posts that focus on statements by relevant parties, official representatives, or legal authorities. Unofficial commentary, fandom activities, speculation, or blind items will not be acceptable. Articles or translations should ideally be presented as neutrally as possible. Titles or content that are obviously sensationalized or intended to persuade readers to one perspective will be removed. English-speaking news outlets that have relatively more neutral reporting include Soompi, Yonhap News, and Korea JoongAng Daily. THIS POST MAY BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED AT VARYING TIMES based on what the moderators are able to manage during their shifts. Please be patient with us while we work to balance keeping up with the queue and our own lives. Articles / Timeline 250422 This day marks one year since HYBE launched their audit of Min Hee Jin and ADOR's management. Happy(?) 1st anniversary of the Megathreads! 250502 The 3rd hearing for Min Hee Jin vs. Belift Lab was set to take place but postponed to July 18th at Belift Lab's request. Each side is due to present their arguments/documents regarding plagiarism issues at the next meeting. (Source: Maeil Kyungjae) 250530 We learned that ADOR had filed for 'indirect enforcement' after their injunction was granted and NewJeans performed at ComplexCon back in March (Filed on April 4th according to the statement from NewJeans' representatives linked below). On the 30th, the 52nd Division of the Seoul Central District court further granted this request. The 'indirect enforcement' ruling means that each individual member of NewJeans will be fined 1 billion won (approx. $725,000) if they continue with entertainment activities independent of ADOR, which would be in violation of the injunction. This enforcement with potential fines does NOT apply to any of NewJeans' independent activities between the granting of the injunction and the granting of this 'indirect enforcement'. These fines will only apply to future activities going forward, or at least until rulings with NewJeans' appeal or the main contract validity case changes anything (next hearing on June 5th). (Source: Chosun Biz, MK Sports) The Korea Herald: Court orders NewJeans to pay Ador 1 billion won for each unauthorized activity Discussion Post Korea JoongAng Daily: Court orders NewJeans members to pay ADOR $725,600 for every independent entertainment activity A statement by NewJeans' representatives was made later in the day primarily acknowledging the indirect enforcement ruling, but reiterating that it is temporary and will no longer have an effect if NewJeans win their appeal of the injunction. (Source: Ilgan Sports) The 2nd hearing for Source Music's damages lawsuit against Min Hee Jin took place at the 12th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Western District Court. (Quick recap: 1st was January 10th, 2nd was previously scheduled for March 14th, postponed per Source Music's request). Legal representatives were present. Source Music had a 20-minute presentation prepared, but Min Hee Jin's representatives objected to the inclusion of KakaoTalk messages in the presentation. They claimed the messages were illegally obtained and requested the hearing to be closed/private. Source Music denied the messages were obtained illegally, claiming they were gained from company devices with consent. The court went with a temporary compromise to keep the hearing public, but not allow discussion/display of the messages until they were reviewed again. A special hearing to review the messages will take place June 27th. (Source: Sports Today) 250605 The Seoul Central District Court Division 41 held the second hearing for ADOR seeking confirmation of validity for their exclusive contract with NewJeans. Only legal representatives were in attendance. NewJeans' side primarily argued that ADOR had not met their obligations and that their evidence they were preparing to support NewJeans' activities, like finding a new producer, was inadequate. ADOR's side argued that NewJeans' reasons for allegedly terminating their contract continually changed, indicating they are arbitrary and being made up with retroactive hindsight. The issue of some evidence being collected illegally also came up again from NewJeans' side. Judge Jung Hoe-Il specifically inquired if both/either sides were willing to come to an agreement, encouraging them to do so. NewJeans' representatives strongly indicated this was unlikely as the trust in ADOR had completely collapsed. ADOR's representatives indicated they could see negotiating an agreement once the court comes to a final decision. The 3rd hearing was set for July 24th. (Sources: X Sport News, Maeil Kyungjae) 250612 The next hearing regarding the Shareholder Agreement termination and exercising put/call options lawsuits between HYBE and Min Hee Jin was held at the Seoul Central District Court's 31st Division. Arguments from each side mostly re-tread what we've already covered. HYBE's side argued they were justified in ending the shareholder agreement due to the threat Min Hee Jin posed to the company. Min Hee Hin's side argued the timing of the audit/termination did not align purely with that concern and that some KakaoTalk messages and emails were obtained illegally and not admissable as evidence. HYBE also indicated they had a witness to give testimony at the next meeting, which the court accepted. The next hearing with closing arguments, was set for September 11th for both lawsuits. (Sources: Maeil Kyungjae, TV Daily, Sports Today) 250617 Following up from April 16th when NewJeans appealed the court's decision to uphold the injunction and halt on their independent activities, the Seoul High Court reaffirmed the earlier decision. The court rejected NewJeans' appeal. They determined there was no significant change in the material/arguments presented for the appeal and the original decision to grant ADOR's injunction was justified. There was further clarification that the management conflict between HYBE and Min Hee Jin, and her no longer being NewJeans' producer, did not constitute a valid argument for the alleged collapse of trust between ADOR and NewJeans. The group's withdrawal from ADOR is considered arbitrary, that their artistic freedom or activity is not impeded since they are able to do so within their exclusive contract, and that any damages resulting from attempting independent activities are self-inflicted. 15.151. A quick note about the generalization rule

  • 2 years ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

The subreddit is mostly uncensored as long as people follow the rules. Generalizing statement about Korea, Korean society, etc or most other countries are not acceptable except under the following standards: The only claims that are acceptable when generalizing Korean society in this sub are those that bring up generalizable stastical claims by the standards of the international statistics institute. Not only do the vast majority of stastistics you can find on the internet about Korea not up to this minimum, basic standard but this requirement includes having ample sample size, blocking by relevant demographics and sometimes even double blind tests. So if you make a generalizing claim, your wording must be properly formatted and links to the relevant studies provided. In other words, the standard for making a generalization is very high in this sub. Not to mention the wording for your claim has to be properly made. Anyone who has taken a college level statistics class will know what I am talking about and we may even require you to provide the confidence level interval if it's relevant for your study. If you cannot meet these standards, I would just avoid doing it in general. submitted by /u/Kpop_Love_Forever [link] [comments]

Not meant to start any fanwars, I am just curious, who do yall think is more popular overall? I was looking at some stats and I feel like they are pretty equal in popularity. Like Enhypen's latest album has more sales and the title track has more youtube views. On the other hand, TXT's title track has more streams on spotify and they chart better in korea. submitted by /u/Gloomy-Eye9380 [link] [comments]

idk who needs to hear this but r/NJDrama was literally made to β€œdiscuss the ongoing legal issue between NewJeans and ADOR” β€” not to farm karma off hating on the girls and their fans 😭 like scroll through that sub for 2 minutes and it’s just ppl calling newjeans boring, saying katseye replaced them, dragging their vocals, or mocking fans for existing. barely anything about the actual legal case anymore. and the funniest part is half the posts are just petty β€œbunnies bad” takes dressed up as β€œgeneral discussion” like be serious… this is just an anti sub at this point. attaching screenshots bc the bias is wild lol submitted by /u/Pretty-Device-7721 [link] [comments]

12. is riize overhated or am i on the wrong side of the internet

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Aside OBVIOUSLY from all of the seunghan drama, I feel like everyone always takes digs at riize for things i really enjoy and think make them unique. I’m very diverse with my music taste, but also very picky with my kpop groups, and I feel like riize is one of the few that really pertain to me, so I really just don’t understand the points people bring up to hate on them. it really baffles me because i think their concept of having not one single concept is really genius and their sound stays consistent even through a genre change, but so many people feel the exact opposite. People also always talk about how sohee is the only strong vocalist and maybe wonbin sometimes too, but their vocals are all really solid ? sure maybe not all of them do insane riffs, but i see a lot of performances where i genuinely think they’re lipsyncing because they sound so accurate to the track and they’re not. with ticket sales for their new tour doing poorly, it’s also dragged in a lot more hate,, but ALL kpop groups are kind of doing poor with ticket sales? i just don’t understand why riize doesn’t hear the end of it. I’m not one to glaze or defend the groups i enjoy like crazy, nor play into hate i see on the internet because truthfully every group gets hate. it just confuses me when anytime i want to be involved with riize online i always see majority of people bashing them, when usually hate for a group stays in corners i can never reach lol. I also know that seunghan obviously played a major role in why they lost a lot of support, but to me I feel like they get hated on for things that dont pertain to him at all, not to mention him leaving was not their decision at all! pleaseeee help me understand this submitted by /u/ktor_7 [link] [comments]

14. Beyond the Album - Things we love : HITGS

  • 4 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Hey everyone, today HITGS returns with their first mini-album, one that I’ve been curious about. I enjoyed the debut that this group delivered, as I’ve had it on repeat. I'm hoping this new project from the group is just as good as their debut, but we will see. So let’s jump into this mini album and see what HITGS brings to the table with their first mini album. ┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛ https://preview.redd.it/h0kyqe4hbjtf1.jpg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9145400ba64835e9983a82e68658725283d2f197 Things we love : I - HITGS Happy Happy is the opening song on the album with electronic vocals before the members come into the mix. The funky-pop vibe works well for this group as they deliver some smooth moments that keep this tune moving. The hook has color to it as it opens up the album in a perfect way. I’ve been obsessed with this chorus since I first heard it this morning. I can’t even get this instrumental out of my head as it’s so catchy, fitting the group's performance wonderfully. It didn’t take long for me to like this tune because I’m a big fan of these upbeat, funky-pop tunes. I’m glad they picked this type of tune to open up the project, as it works well for the group. https://preview.redd.it/2rnh4izsbjtf1.jpg?width=283&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b17a20d54e8d1e7854fe35c26b2f9f12c86ba46 β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ A-Ha! A-HA! opens up with synths as the members' smooth vocals come into the mix. The percussion brings in a thumping vibe that works well with the vibe the producers crafted. I find this group works wonderfully with these bouncy-pop vibes that help get the tune into your head. The hook has slowly been growing on me the more I hear this track. We get a little rap in the second verse that flows with the overall vibe. I still wish this song were longer cause it feels like it comes and goes too fast, not letting the track develop into anything, but I still think this tune is an enjoyable one. https://preview.redd.it/4hiac8nybjtf1.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f7d645af8c738c2b14537efc88abd6c3104a65a β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ PAGE Out of the three new songs, I found PAGE to be my favorite as I fell in love with the instrumental right away. The song goes for this groovy-slick funky vibe that fits the group's fantastic performance. I love how smooth this track is, fitting the group like butter, and the hook is so infectious that it’s been in my head since this morning. Each member provides great vocals that keep this tune fresh and smooth. The bridge is another excellent moment as the vocals get stronger before the final hook comes into the mix, tying everything together. https://preview.redd.it/in8jpi74cjtf1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25200d88dc10074c376bb70ca4a06d6e6bb36c28 β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ Gross Gross was pre-released back in June, and I will say while I semi them, they sound a little weak. The hook isn't bad at all, but it's not as catchy as what the group delivered during their debut single album. I feel like this new single Gross is a bit of a step down from what they delivered with Sourpatch and Never Be Me. I just hoped the group would return with something a bit better than what Gross delivered. I will also say I can still listen to Gross, but it's not my overall favorite. I do find Gross a little weak to be put on a mini album, but I will say Gross has grown on me a little bit, but not as much as I was hoping for. https://preview.redd.it/rdjfajt8cjtf1.jpg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=294e50cc64e24c5dbe532a66321382f2bf40bc79 β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β”β˜“ ━━━━━━━ CHARIZZMA The closing track, Charizzma, is a bit better than Gross, but still feels like it's lacking the spark the debut had. The vocals from the members are pretty good as they work well with the overall vibe. The thumping instrumental is decent enough to work wonderfully with the group's performance, but something about it feels a little lacking. The hook could've been better. There is one moment where the beat switches up for a moment, but that second feels a bit out of place for me. HITGS had an excellent debut. I also feel like Charizzma isn’t the best closer for the album, as it feels like there could’ve been another song to end this record. https://preview.redd.it/mezod3yccjtf1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=141bd2c5163a72553469b018872404e0341f77d5 ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Summary: HITGS is back with their first mini album, one that I find to be a decent one, but not one that overly impressed me. Happy does a great job opening up the album, which was way better than how it closed. PAGE is my favorite song out of the new ones, as its slick, funky groove will keep pulling me back for more. I feel like this mini album doesn’t have the spark that the debut had, which I was hoping for. Gross did grow on me a little bit, but not as much as I was hoping for. I still can’t wait to see where the group goes in the future. ┗━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┛ https://preview.redd.it/awqg4vsgcjtf1.jpg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2ad0d6ce0f508d5da906e18a554150367a1e9c3 submitted by /u/Maltifandom23 [link] [comments]

15. I wish we would critique music more in K-pop

  • 5 hours ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I dislike how critiquing music these days is reduced to being a "hater" of a certain group. As someone who enjoys critiquing the media I consume, I wish the culture surrounding music criticism would be more than just being a hater. Nuance doesn't exist in the K-pop space and it's hurting the industry. When artists are not critiqued for their work, they'll keep pumping out numerous "low quality" projects and their fans will keep eating it up. Critical music consumption in the Kpop space is reduced to hate that ends up being destructive instead of being constructive and it's super annoying. At the end of the day, it's not possible for all of us to always be SUPER critical of the music we consume. Sometimes we want to bop to Super Tuna without thinking too much of it. I'm more concerned about the general culture of thinking that EVERY piece of music our faves produce is perfect. Like it should be okay to admit that we did not really like a certain project without being tagged as a hater and the conversation ending there. I felt so strongly about this issue when it seemed like I was the only one who thought that the recent Stray Kids lead single was weaker than their previous projects. Ceremony was a hit and an obvious earworm, but I think it was not as strong of a song as their other lead singles. I love Skz down and I appreciate their experimental nature but I feel there was not really any room for discussion or criticism on their album. I bring up Stray Kids in this case specifically because they produce their music and are heavily involved in the songwriting process too so criticism in this case is super helpful for them. There are so many talented producers and songwriters in the industry, but not engaging critically with their work is going to hurt their creativity too. We keep hearing complaints about the apparent reduction of quality in recent K-pop projects in general but we eat everything up and take everything we're given...high quality or not. It's not helpful for the idols or their teams behind them. submitted by /u/Serious_News_5093 [link] [comments]
