Labeling idols healthy is harmful

Ik this might be rlly unpopular, but I come across so many people trying to categorize certain idols as having “healthy bodies” just because they seem to have gained a bit of weight. Isn’t this so toxic? Unless we’re talking about idols who have personally shared that they’ve been focusing on balanced diets or lifestyle changes for their health, we actually know nothing about what’s going on with their bodies. For example, an idol might be bloated because of their period, from eating a little more than usual the past couple of days, or even from something as simple as salty food. Then they appear in public and suddenly they’re labeled “healthy” because people assume it’s weight gain. Imagine how it must feel to know that thousands of people noticed your stomach wasn’t as flat or your face was puffier that day. There’s nothing wrong with those things but having it pointed out by thousands of strangers can’t be a fun experience. A lot of people defend this by saying it’s “praise” and that they’re encouraging idols to eat more and have healthier habits. But that so-called praise is essentially just saying, “We noticed you gained weight.” Even if gaining weight isn’t a bad thing at all, in an industry where idols are constantly pressured to be super skinny, I doubt every idol feels good being singled out like that. And on the flip side, automatically assuming an idol is unhealthy just because they look skinny is also harmful. Yes, some idols do go through restrictive dieting, but others are simply naturally lean or maintain their physique through hours of intense training. Speaking as someone who’s been a competitive dancer surrounded by other dancers, many eat perfectly normal portions yet stay slim due to the sheer amount of physical activity. For taller dancers especially, gaining weight from a “normal” diet can be harder. We can shift the focus away from speculating about bodies entirely. Instead of making comments on weight gain or loss, we can respond to what idols actually say about their health and well-being. If an idol shares they’ve been eating better, resting more, or feeling stronger, that’s when it makes sense to celebrate with them. That way, we’re supporting their health on their terms without turning their bodies into public commentary. submitted by /u/Puzzled-Support-9712 [link] [comments]

1.549. It’s been confirmed that BLACKPINK will release MINI ALBUM 💀

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

It’s official — BLACKPINK are set to release a mini album. 💀 Honestly, I’m in complete shock. Their last album came out back in 2022, and now, after almost three years of waiting, we’re getting just a mini album — probably with only 4–6 tracks. A month ago, they dropped the pre-release single “JUMP”, marking the group’s first comeback in years. But with it came… absolutely nothing. No interviews, no variety shows, no dance performance video, no live stage — literally nothing. Many people blame the members themselves for the lack of content, but personally, I can’t put any of the blame on them. The only one at fault here is the company. Throughout BLACKPINK’s career, the number of songs the members have actively participated in creating can be counted on one hand. Most of the time, they’re just handed a finished track to record. So here’s my question: what stopped the company from preparing at least 20–50 songs over these three years and letting the girls choose the best 10 together with a producer for a proper full album? submitted by /u/DisastrousOutside787 [link] [comments]

1.550. Do you think the new BigHit boy group Cortis will have a lore?

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Since BTS had a lore and TXT's music and artistic direction were very centered around theirs (which has just ended), I was wondering if that might be the case for Cortis too. But from the pre-release that came out, it doesn’t really feel like it. They seem to be going for a free-spirited, creative, carefree teen vibe, which, I think, would be a bit contradictory to following a well-crafted storyline built over several years. But I guess we’ll have to wait and see when they debut. submitted by /u/Technical_Walrus9158 [link] [comments]

1.557. BTS are honestly lucky they managed to become as famous as they did with their name

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I saw someone asking for examples of good K-pop group names, and it got me thinking. As a BTS fan, I’ve always felt their name just… works. It sounds right. Some group names stick instantly, like LE SSERAFIM — short, unique, easy to remember. And then you’ve got the nugu groups with names like “25car78be” or “XQ4nity” where you can’t even tell if it’s a password, a license plate, or an idol group. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that if BTS hadn’t blown up, their name might have actually been a problem. Especially outside of Korea. In the early days, “BTS” was a terrible search term. When I became a fan in late 2017, they were already big, but not “your grandma has heard of them” big. It still felt like discovering something underground and special. If I searched “BTS” on YouTube, I’d get walls of “Back To School” or “Behind The Scenes” videos before anything related to the group. Even before 2017, I’d see people in random comment sections mentioning BTS — one that stuck with me was someone writing “dashi run run run” — and when I finally tried to look them up? Boom. More school supply hauls and behind-the-scenes vlogs. And back then, a lot of their actual content wasn’t even translated yet, so even if you did find them, half the titles were just “BTS – [Korean text]” or fully in Hangul. It’s honestly wild to think about now. And it wasn’t just the abbreviation. I remember searching “BTS Danger” for the music video and ending up with Henry Danger behind-the-scenes clips. Like, I’m trying to show my friend this epic K-pop MV, and YouTube’s like, “Nah. Here’s Nickelodeon.” Fast forward to now, and “BTS” is basically a cultural keyword. Even if someone doesn’t know a single song, they know who you’re talking about. But it really could’ve gone differently — there are so many rookie groups today whose names make them invisible online. If BTS debuted in 2025 with that same name, they might have been buried under a mountain of search results forever. These days, when “BTS” is used for “behind the scenes,” some ARMYs think it’s just a cheap way to bait views (and sometimes… yeah, probably). But for me, it’s just a reminder that timing and luck matter. They didn’t pick a flawless, SEO-perfect name — they just worked hard enough to make it theirs. And now it’s impossible to imagine them being called anything else. submitted by /u/Due_Improvement_5699 [link] [comments]

1.560. My wife wrote a book about K-pop

Hey everyone, I don’t usually post stuff like this, but my wife just finished writing a book about K-pop. Full disclosure: I know basically nothing about K-pop myself (couldn’t name more than maybe two groups if my life depended on it), but I’ve seen how much time and energy she’s poured into this project. She’s been researching, writing, and editing for what feels like forever : late nights, stacks of notes, random music videos playing in the background and honestly, I’m proud of her for seeing it through. If you’re into K-pop or just curious, it would mean a lot to her if people checked it out. I know she’d be thrilled to see her work reach more readers. Thanks for reading, and sorry if this is a bit sappy I just think she deserves a little shout-out. submitted by /u/DownTownLoading [link] [comments]

1.562. Netflix should make Huntr/x an actual group

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

I think we all saw that Golden just reached 656 PAKs, thus making it the song with the most PAKs ever, over Ditto, Dinamite and other. And it's nlt about to stop : the next big releases, Ive, LYW and aespa, only release after the 25th of August, making it possible for Golden to reach 1000 PAKs and absolutely destroy the previous record (655 for ditto). My take is that Netflix should use this success and continue the groups activities, release more music. Use the same designs in an MV. Ride of the movies success and continue *both groups (You idol is huge). Make Instagram accounts, post teasers, "drawings" etc. Provide maybe a back story to the members. And continue to use EJAEs voice and the others (and maybe use fairer line distribution, for the movie, having Rumi sing 95% of the lines is okay, but kf you chose this road, fans would grit their teeth). My concerns is that it would be so expensive to pay for new animations. But rn if they ride of their success, they could be the biggest "gg" ever (and actually make kpop more popular than it is rn, I mean, "locals" love the show, the same people that wouldn't touch a kpop song before. The show is a great gateway to kpop). Second concern is that they can't make the characters perform (BUT, I could see some kind of double phenomena, like releases mv and fake animated performance and make the real singers do some kind of tour, perform at MAMA and others, with KDH characters on screen behind them etc). Huntr/x, and Saja Boys, are gold mines, and simply letting them fade with no other content would be such a bad move. Plus it would be a great advertising for Netflix (or whatever the studio is, I confess I know nothing about it). What are your thoughts on this ? Am I alone thinking it would be such a waste to create them and letting the group only be fictional ? submitted by /u/Fine_Internal408 [link] [comments]

1.563. I want to get into more kpop groups!

  • 2 weeks ago schedule
  • reddit.com language

Context: I was a kpop fan back in 2018/2019 then not long after I stopped. (because at that time I was just a really really casual fan of the classics like blackpink and BTS) In 2021, I discovered a kpop group and gave kpop another chance and I fell in love with kpop again. Now, I've been trying to like more groups but none of the groups seems to hit the same as that group. I've been a dedicated stan of that group for forever and I watch every single content they put out and collect their albums too. So here comes the question: I really want to like more kpop groups, but I can't seem to get into other kpop groups as much as that initial group, what should I try? [maybe some kpop group recommendations too!] submitted by /u/Ikniszyo1 [link] [comments]

1.564. [TW: SH] NewJeans wins cyber harassment damages lawsuit against online sexual harassment

Machine translation: It has been confirmed that the girl group New Jeans recently won a lawsuit seeking hundreds of millions of won in damages against a YouTuber who sexually harassed them. This is expected to serve as another wake-up call to the so-called "cyber wreckers" who continuously harass celebrities such as K-pop artists to gain public support or financial gain. According to a comprehensive report by Sisa Journal on the 11th, Judge Lee Ah-young of the 13th Civil Division of the Seoul Western District Court ordered Mr. Shin to pay 5 million won each to Minzy, Hani, and Daniel, and 7 million won each to Haerin and Hyein in the damages lawsuit filed by the five members of New Jeans (Minzy, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, and Hyein) against Mr. Shin on June 25th. This ruling was finalized on the 22nd of last month as Mr. Shin did not appeal. Shin is accused of operating two YouTube accounts between April and May 2024, creating around 20 videos, including shorts, that sexually harass New Jeans members by manipulating their stage footage and original content (jacons), and posting malicious comments. In the videos, Shin changed the word "Cookie" in the New Jeans song to "thick" and the expression "brightly greet" to "X-gi." He also highlighted the members holding the microphone and eating cucumbers to suggest quasi-sexual acts. Shin also left malicious comments such as, "I use the word 'jacon' differently. It refers to controlling my XX thickly and powerfully," and "I want to make you a mother of many children." In response, New Jeans' agency, Adore, filed a criminal complaint against Shin in June of last year and also filed a damage suit for a total of 100 million won, 20 million won per member. Adore, the agency of New Jeans, also took advantage of this method and worked hard for over a year to catch Shin, including appointing a legal representative, hiring a legal representative, and filing a public information request with a US court to obtain Shin's identity from Google. During the trial, they were able to win the case for an unusually high amount by emphasizing the malicious intent, including defamation of the artist. The judge ruled in partial favor, stating, "It is clear from experience that a person whose personality rights have been violated by the other party's sexual expressions suffers mental anguish." He added, "The personality rights of the New Jeans members have been violated, and they are liable for damages resulting from this." Considering that Hae-rin and Hye-in were minors at the time, the court imposed a higher compensation award on them than the other members. submitted by /u/Difficult_Win_2534 [link] [comments]
